Q&As

I love the satisfaction that comes from exceeding my clients’ expectations, whether it’s transforming the look of a much-loved family home or hard-working commercial property, adding the finishing touches to a brand-new build, bringing a tired property back to life or providing essential maintenance work to ensure the longevity of what is often a client’s biggest asset.

Painting is in my blood and I learned the trade working in my father’s business in Europe – where learning to paint meant a long apprenticeship before earning the right to call yourself a painter. When I came to Christchurch after the 2011 earthquakes, I was surprised to see people employed as a painter (or even forming their own companies) with no experience in the trade!

I started Europaint five years ago and quickly discovered that there was strong demand for highly skilled painters – since then we’ve worked on a diverse range of projects from family homes and investment properties through to heritage buildings and commercial sites.

I have more than 20 years’ experience in painting, learning the trade in my father’s business, a highly regarded painting company in Europe. There I worked on high-calibre projects such as the Presidential Palace in Ljubljana, Slovenia. Since arriving in New Zealand ten years ago, I have worked with both large construction companies and smaller painting firms, learning the unique characteristics of the NZ environment, construction techniques and materials.

Since starting Europaint five years ago, I have brought all of this experience to a wide range of projects, from plastering to painting, indoors and out, on both large and small projects. Earning a reputation for quality that has seen us working on such significant buildings as St Patrick’s Church in Akaroa, Koukourarata Marae in Port Levy and the new Nazareth House Chapel in Brougham Street, I am proud to bring to every job – from the smallest home renovation to a transformation of your home, investment or commercial property – a level of expertise and attention to detail that exceeds expectations!

While the services we provide obviously need to be performed on site, I am very happy to work with clients who are based elsewhere or not able to visit the site. Provided secure arrangements can be made for accessing the worksite, I am able to visit the site independently, provide a quote via email and perform the work without the client being present.

The Europaint team is conscientious about providing a safe and hygienic work environment, practising regular hand washing/hand sanitising and sanitising work equipment. I provide quotes by email and we are able to work independently on site (provided secure arrangements can be made for access) if the client is more comfortable to isolate themselves rather than meeting in person.

Services

From interior walls, ceilings, trims, doors and cabinetry, to exterior walls, weatherboards, windows, roofs and fences, well-painted surfaces enhance the look – and value – of your property and provide essential protection against the elements. Correct preparation and application is essential to ensure your paintwork stands up to the task. Indoors and out, the Europaint team has the skills and depth of experience required for a result that looks good now and in the future.

Plastering means covering internal walls in preparation for painting: the main purpose is to create a smooth finish that enhances the look of the room. Rendering is the coating of external walls and so the purpose is different: the result needs to look good, but the coating must also protect the wall from heat, cold and rain, so it must be as strong and water-resistant as possible. At Europaint, we have the experience to ensure the finish not only looks good, but does the job it needs to do.

Although brushes and rollers are an essential part of our kit, sometimes a spray finish can achieve a great product. Correctly done, it results in a smooth finish without brush or roller marks, and in some instances, such as when using metallic paints, there is no better method. It requires careful preparation, however, to ensure paint adhesion and care must be taken to avoid ‘over-spray’ on surrounding areas. At Europaint, we use high-quality airless sprayers and our team are experts in the correct technique.

Wallpapers are a popular choice for creating a unique look in your home or business, but there is an art to installing them correctly. Preparation is key (including the correct removal of any existing wallpaper) and the hanging requires careful attention, particularly with patterned wallpapers and in older houses where walls are not necessarily square. The Europaint team has the experience to ensure that your wallpapers are long-lasting and create a stunning look for your property.

The correct maintenance of your property will keep it looking good and help to protect it. Whether preparing to paint, preparing to sell, or just keeping things tidy, Europaint can water-blast your walls, roof, fences, drives and pathways to remove dirt, moss and lichen. Ask us about our other property maintenance services including deck cleaning and staining, and concrete cleaning and sealing. With the right maintenance, you can add value to your home without spending a fortune!
