Mike was great throughout our whole bathroom project which was quite tricky. It involved removing a door and rebuilding the wall, artsy tiling work, floor and wall tiling, installing underfloor heating and repainting. What do you love most about your job?
Problem solving. Every home is different, and the challenges are usually hidden in the details... Water that's not going where it's meant to; damage to textured surfaces that has to be repaired seamlessly; cracks in a wall that just keep coming back; beautiful but uncooperative woodgrain, etc. Rather than being frustrated by obstacles, we enjoy identifying the cause, finding (or creating) a solution and seeing the relief on a customer’s face when it all works.
What inspired you to start your own business?
I'm process-driven, quantitative and a bit of an introvert. I was a market researcher for many years, more recently a marketing manager. But for all of that time I did most of the repairs and all of the painting on my own homes - in NZ, Hong Kong and China; houses, apartments; wood, concrete, gib and all combinations of them (except electrical and plumbing). Now back in NZ, this recession has brought me to make a career change: everyone's homes need fixing, and A.I. can't do it!
