I specialise in dog photography which covers both dog portraits as well as candid photos of dogs with their humans. Capturing the connection and emotion between dogs and humans is really precious to me and it shows the bond that exists between the two. Depending on the obedience skills of the dog I will take some standard shots like a sit or a lie down and may also include some action shots of the dog running. I plan the shoot with my client down to the location. A consultation beforehand is important so we can get to know each other a little, but also for you know what to expect on the day. Time, getting older, and reflecting on what I want to do and who I want to be. I've always had a camera for as long as I can think and loved taking photos. It took me living with a friend of mine and her border collie, the pandemic, and me making a conscious choice to invest in a professional camera and being vulnerable by putting myself out there with my craft. I haven't looked back since and it has been a really rewarding journey so far.
Every photographer can take a photo of a dog but few only take photos of dogs. The rules in dog photography are different from shooting weddings, events, commercials. I have really focussed on dog photography, all of my friends and business customers have/work with dogs and I keep learning about them and their behaviour.
I put a lot of focus on me being patient and having empathy for my clients and their situations since everyone's situation is unique. May that be a typical portrait shoot, or an end of life shoot with a senior dog, my focus is always my client and their dog. I am trying to create memories with my clients and their dogs that they get to keep and cherish.
I only work on location with my clients. The location is usually planned in advance with the client. I always have some locations in mind that I know work well. At the same time I am happy to explore new locations especially if that is requested by a customer since some have amazing locations nearby that I haven't been to yet. Working with Mauricio at VenaFoto was a pleasure - and so easy. He did two calls with my friend and me so that we could get what we needed for our individual businesses. On the day of the shoot, he helped me with movement and poses so he could try to capture me at my best. I appreciated the direction and am happy with the results that currently live on my website.
