Finding a web designer in Kelowna is easy with Bark

Finding a digital agency who understands the Kelowna market is key to standing out online. From small business sites in Lower Mission to established brands in Rutland, we connect you with experts who specialise in creating mobile-responsive, high-performing websites for the local community.

Why hire a professional web designer?

  • First impressions matter: 94% of first impressions are design-related. Build instant credibility in Kelowna.

  • Mobile-first approach: Over 60% of web traffic in Canada is mobile; professional designers ensure your site works beautifully on every screen.

  • SEO-ready structure: Good design includes proper technical setup to help your site rank higher in Google results.

  • Save time and frustration: DIY builders seem easy until they're not. Let an expert in Kelowna handle the complexity.

Types of web design services available:

  • Custom design: Unique sites built from scratch.

  • E-commerce: Online shops with secure payment processing, product catalogues, and inventory management.

  • Website redesigns: Modernise outdated sites with fresh designs and improved functionality.

  • WordPress & Shopify: Custom themes and functionality for the world's most popular platforms.

Web design costs in 2026 vary based on complexity, functionality, and the designer's experience. Based on the latest Bark data, web design rates in Kelowna are around $600 and align closely with the national average of $600. Here is what you can realistically expect to pay for different design types:

  • Landing page: $300 to $1,800 (Single page, conversion-focused design)

  • Small business website: $720 to $3,600 (5 to 10 pages, basic SEO, mobile responsive)

  • Custom business website: $3,000 to $9,000 (Fully custom design, 10 to 20 pages, copywriting)

  • E-commerce website: $2,400 to $21,000+ (Product catalogue, payment integration, inventory)

Note: All prices listed above are estimates in Canadian Dollars (CAD) based on regional averages. To get a better idea of the exact cost for your specific project, you should request personalised quotes from local experts.

Budget-friendly options

If you're working with a limited budget in Kelowna, consider starting with a simple 5-page site and expanding later, using a customised template rather than a custom build, or providing your own content and imagery to reduce the designer's workload.

Hidden costs to consider

  • Domain name: $20 to $50 per year

  • Hosting: $15 to $100 per month depending on your needs

  • SSL certificate: Often free, sometimes $75 to $250 per year

  • Stock photography: $20 to $100 per image (or use free options)

  • Plugins and tools: $0 to $500 per year for premium functionality

  • Ongoing maintenance: $100 to $800 per month for updates and support

FAQs

How long does it take to design a website?
Most small to medium business websites take 4 to 8 weeks. Simple sites can take 2 to 3 weeks, while complex e-commerce platforms or custom applications in Kelowna may take 3 to 6 months depending on content readiness and feedback speed.

Do I need a web designer or can I just use Wix/Squarespace?
DIY builders are great for simple hobbies, but professional web designers offer custom solutions, better SEO setup, unique branding, and ongoing support. It is an investment that typically pays for itself through better results.

What's the difference between web design and web development?
Design focuses on the visual appearance and user experience (how it looks), while development handles the technical coding and functionality (how it works). Most Kelowna professionals handle both.

What should I look for when hiring a web designer?
Check their portfolio for similar projects, read reviews, ensure they understand the Canadian market, and confirm they provide mobile-responsive designs and post-launch support.

How do I know if a web designer is good?
Look for consistent 5-star reviews, a diverse portfolio, clear communication, and professional branding. Trust your instincts. If they are hard to reach before you hire them, it rarely improves afterward.

Will my website work on mobile devices?
Yes. In 2026, mobile-responsive design is a non-negotiable standard. Your Kelowna designer will ensure the site adapts for smartphones, tablets, and desktops automatically.

Can a web designer help with SEO?
Most include basic technical SEO (page structure, meta tags, speed). However, ongoing strategy, content optimisation, and link building typically require an SEO specialist.

What if I need changes after the website is built?
Most designers include minor tweaks at launch. For ongoing changes, you can hire your original designer for updates, learn to use the CMS yourself, or pay for a maintenance package.

Who will own my website and content?
You should own your website, domain, hosting, and all content after final payment. Ensure this is clearly stated in your contract before signing.

Do I need to provide content or will the designer write it?
This varies. Some include copywriting, others charge extra ($100 to $250 per page). Having your text and images ready before design begins prevents delays.

How much should I budget for website maintenance?
Expect $50 to $350 per month for basic updates, security patches, and backups. Comprehensive packages include content updates and performance optimisation.

What happens if I'm not happy with the design?
Reputable designers work in stages with feedback rounds. You'll see wireframes or mockups early on, and most include 2 to 3 revision rounds to ensure you are thrilled with the result.

What questions might you ask a client when starting a new project?

1. What are the goals of the project?
2. Who is your target audience and what should their experience be with your website?
3. What elements do you like from competitor websites and which elements don't you like about them internally or externally?
4. Describe the tone that you want to use, how do you want others to perceive your brand, company, product/service?

What do you love most about your job?

I love that I get to be an entrepreneur. That means being creative, thinking on my feet, and generally getting paid for problem solving! I love digital marketing because it's empowering small businesses of all kinds to compete in this digitizing world. Most importantly, though, I love helping companies take their business to the next level. How does it feel when you're able to successfully show someone how they can make more sales or improve customer retention? It feels awesome--and what I do every day!

What inspired you to start your own business?

I've always been my own boss, so it hasn't felt like work at all. The only limit on how hard I need to work is how strong my willpower is. When people use the term "putting in the hours" they generally don't mean that literally: they're talking about working with sustained discipline and a deep focus. And since those two things are easy for me to do, it feels really good to be working on something I'm not just putting off until tomorrow. Finally, sharing what this freedom has done for me has been personally rewarding because when somebody sees you succeed it does something for them--it's contagious.

Why should our clients choose you?

It's important to understand in today's economy that clients have lots of choices when it comes to the design and marketing agencies they work with.
It's up to the agency professionals, as their families and lifestyles depend on it, to provide clients with a number of benefits that set them apart from their competition. They should be affordable (so they can't be too outright competitive). They should be able to offer complete packages, including SEO marketing campaigns. And because client expectations are high in today's customer service-driven marketplaces, they should offer reliable project timelines for each step of the process along with expertly crafted and beautifully designed websites or banners. The end result is that satisfied clients will recommend your company as both an innovative partner

Can you provide your services online or remotely? If so, please add details.

Yes, I'm happy to provide my services remotely. We use the phone or Zoom as needed to communicate and make sure the project is headed in the right direction.
