David from Ottawa
For the last year or so, I saw a few houses in my areas having about 13- years-old roofs started getting new ones! Earlier this year I found a few flown shingles from mine, but did not pay any further attention. Came August a neighbor opposite to mine pointed my problems, however minor with a few missing shingles, explained his to be done later in the month. Thus I am serious about this and got 3 quotes, also asking if I can get by with only repairing the problem area. Apparently roofers are busy enough, they all recommended replacement. From my own assessment, roofs done in my years, 1999 all have mushroom vents, as called by roofers, vice newer (maximum) vents in houses build in the late 2005's. Thus they all seemed under-vented, or under designed to remove the heat builded up in the attic. You can open up your attic in a sunshine afternoon to verify indeed it is hotter than inside my car in summer days. This couples with the reasons provided by Mark, that shingles in my time were notoriously bad due to recycled materials that they age prematurely, 14 years old that needs new roof is not out of the ordinary. Long story short about what I like this company:
- well organized for an efficient and professionally installation;
- the number of underlayments are done as advertized;
- drip edges installed throughout;
- bigger crew and well coordinated ensure a timely done jog.
- Mark took the time to explain about the job, the work involved, process, etc and answered all my questions.That said, the owner still had to finish up something assumed to be completed by the crew: cleaning up of the debris, nails collected in the eavestroughing. But then he created such a positive impression that he took care of such detail. Overall I am happy with the workmanship and the crew!
Your roof takes a beating here in Clarence Rockland. Freeze-thaw cycles every winter, heavy snow piling on roofs for months, ice dams when attic insulation fails. Roofs work hard.
Got a leak getting worse? Shingles flew off in the last storm? Water stains showing up on your ceiling? You need someone who actually knows what they're doing and shows up when they say they will. Not someone who disappears after the deposit or does garbage work you'll pay to fix again next year.
Post your roof repair job here and we'll connect you with local roofers in Clarence Rockland. You'll receive information from pros ready to help, so you can compare their approach and pick the right fit for your home.
What we see most around here:
Shingle damage from temperature extremes and heavy snow. High winds, temperature swings, UV exposure. It all adds up. Asphalt shingles typically last 15-25 years, but some roofs show wear earlier depending on the grade installed and how exposed your house is.
Ice dam damage Especially in older homes where warm attic air melts snow that refreezes at the eaves.
Shingle cracking From temperature swings between minus 20 and plus 30 degrees.
Attic condensation Creating mold and rotting the roof deck from underneath.
Flashing problems around chimneys, skylights, and vents. This is where most leaks start, not the shingles themselves. Good roofers check flashing first.
Ventilation issues causing premature aging. Your attic needs to breathe. Poor ventilation means trapped moisture, which means rotted decking, mold, and shingles that curl and crack way before they should.
Shingles here take a beating from temperature swings. Quality matters more than in mild climates.
Here's how this actually works:
Tell us what's wrong - Be as specific as you can. We share your request with roofers in Clarence Rockland who have the right expertise for your job.
Review your matches - Interested pros will reach out. You'll see their profiles, past customer reviews, and estimated pricing all in one place.
Pick the right partner - Compare their experience and project plans, then hire whoever you feel most comfortable with.
Don't just go with the cheapest number. Ask:
Decent roofers inspect first, quote second. They'll look at your roof age, current condition, and what's actually causing problems. Not just assume you need the most expensive option.
Get a few different perspectives. Compare what they're actually proposing to do. Some roofers fix things. Others push full replacement even when repairs would work fine.
Permits and regulations - Most Ontario cities require building permits for full roof replacements. Repairs under a certain size usually don't. Good contractors know the rules and handle permits as part of the job.
Insurance coverage - Ontario insurance typically covers sudden damage from storms or falling objects. You need to report and document damage quickly. Some policies have time limits for filing claims.
Building codes - Ontario Building Code sets standards for roof structure and ventilation. Contractors should follow current OBC requirements. Inspections happen on permitted work.
Best timing - May through October is prime time. Winter work happens but costs more and weather causes delays.
Get your roof looked at if you're seeing:
Small problems turn into big ones fast. Repairs that cost $500 now might mean a full replacement you weren't planning for next year.
Finding a roofer shouldn't be this hard, but it is. You can ask neighbors, but their roof might be completely different from yours. You can search online, but how do you know who's legit?
Post here once, and let the professionals come to you. You’ll save time by connecting with pros who are currently available and interested in your project. You’ll see reviews from actual customers and can manage everything in one place.
Takes about two minutes to post a request. Review your options when you're ready and hire who makes the most sense for your home.
