Very peaceful but lovely village core. Nice boutiques, groceries, coffee shop, a pub nearby the coast line. My personal favorite is walking the docks and looking at all moorage vessels in the morning with my cup of coffee. Parking is not much of an issue. As per the ferry you may stop at 3 small distinct islands for about 15 minutes and take off again. And the return to the mainland is free. More...

Always enjoyable , Saltspring Island is so easy to access for anyone staying in Victoria. A 30 minute ferry ⛴️ from Swartz Bay takes you to pastoral and artsy Salt Spring Island. Vintners , artists , artisans and a few new age hipsters call Salt Spring home. Tourists flock to SSI in the summer months , with an extra helping of gawkers arriving on summertime Saturdays for the Ganges market. Take time to check out outlying coastal areas and lakes on this popular Gulf Island Restaurants are everywhere. Bakeries are especially popular Ferry service is plentiful and not too expensive Many hiking opportunities Sailing, swimming , hang gliding, bike riding are just some of the activities that make SSI a popular destination . The Saturday market is also a huge draw. B and B's are everywhere. Handicap ♿️ doable and recommended Final take...figure around 4 hours to several days . More...

I enjoyed the ride over on the ferry and the roads are good. Very busy in the business areas. Very popular destination and lots of traffic this time of year.

Small and quaint island but bad for bicycling and driving. Narrow roads that you share with pedestrians. Small town, very little shopping, but good restaurants. Very pricy though.

Beautiful island well worth the visit! As soon as you get there you will naturally feel more relaxed and connected with nature. The shops have relaxed opening hours, the locals are friendly and the food is lovely ♥️ More...

This is a beautiful island in a great location of Coastal British Columbia. However, it is very busy as it becomes overrun with tourists in the busy summer months. At this time, it is unpleasant and is not worth your time. Avoid Ganges. If you are looking to visit a nice island or want to escape the big cities, go to Mayne or Saturna. More...

Even if you don't set foot on this island, the trip over from Vancouver was worth it, through the glorious Gulf islands. This might be one of the nicest spots on earth, though I wasn't here when the no see ums are in season. I'd move up here in a heartbeat, build myself a cabin on a steep shore in an isolated fjord. Spend every day fishing and smoking, whiling my days any in a blissful fugue. What makes this place special, incidentally, must be the trees. The sea and climate can be cold and dark. The trees though, are always green, always alive. More...

Salt Spring Island is a very nice place to go. It's got everything you need: nice people, amazing scenery, and organic, Island-grown groceries. If you want to see the best of rural British Columbia, this is a great start! The people are amazing and generous, the parties (although rare in winter) are outstanding, and the hukes are stunning! I've been to Salt Spring Island every time I visited Canada and have not regretted it ever! Also, the ferry rides can be beautiful! More...

No local government. Dysfunctional. No accountability. A criminal element has moved in & high mental illness per capita. Great for nature & isolation.
