What makes a great website?
A website should reflect the personality of a business and the people behind it. For this reason, it should be unique and leave readers with a strong impression of who and what they are engaging with.
I like to work with my clients to understand what they do, who they are and most importantly where they see their business going. The website design and the content flows from this.
Some websites need detailed information and content but I don't like writing words just for the sake of it. I prioritise space, colour, flow, and ease of navigation. Someone looking through a website should find it easy to read and should want to engage with it - lots of words aren't always the best way to go.
That said, words need to be compelling, engaging and accurate, and content needs to flow to tell a story and to show professionalism.
What questions might you ask a client when starting a new project?
I always ask for a client to explain to me what they're looking for so that I have a sense of their own vision. This helps me to design the website in a way that reflects who they are.

What do you love most about your job?
When I was younger I always wanted to be able to draw but I was terrible at it. It took me time to realise that actually what I am good at though is taking a white sheet of paper (or screen) and turning it into something that engages and attracts an audience. This is my way of being artistic.
I love helping my clients to articulate their own vision and working with them to bring something to life - it's really rewarding.
What inspired you to start your own business?
My own website tells the story of my trip to South Africa while I was working for a large professional firm. I spent time working with a small school to build it's own business so that it could educate and nurture disadvantaged students. It was a turning point for me - I knew from then that I had the skills and the passion to take a leap and work for myself doing the type of work that I loved.

I'm not an "everyday" copywriter. I offer something very unique - I have many years of professional experience in a corporate environment.

What changes have you made to keep your customers safe from Covid-19?
Where face-to-face meetings are needed I have a strict approach to ensure Covid-19 risks are minimised and I will agree protocols with clients in advance of these meetings.
