Counselling with Dr Sian at Kalamunda Counselling
I am Dr Sian from Kalamunda Counselling. I have been in my own private practice for seven years. Before that, I gained several degrees including a PhD in helping trauma and a Masters degree in Psycho-education.
Even more important than my qualifications is my experience. I have spent twenty years refining my counselling skills and practicing important attributes like kindness, empathy, patience and care. I listen and then I facilitate positive change. I have a vast toolkit of helping strategies. I can help you cross the divide from where you are in life to where you want to be. I see people in person and also through Skype, Zoom or telephone.
People usually find that I am an invaluable resource. I am a stranger now but I will get to know you well if you see me for counselling. I will support you unconditionally and without judgement. I am trained in solution-focussed, evidence-based, best- practice techniques like Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. Sessions are structured and guided to find solutions to your problems, so that you can get more out of life and so that you can have a better quality of life. Here are some key benefits of engaging in psychotherapy with me:
Gain a Different Point of View
Verbalising your thoughts and emotions lets you see them from a new perspective, instead of just bouncing them around in your own head. I will help you clarify your issues and think more positively about them. I use positive psychology to help you think happier thoughts. I can help you navigate through your fear, anger or sadness, leaving them behind for sunnier days.
Let Go of the Baggage
Letting things out that you’ve been keeping inside can be a cathartic experience. After seeing me for counselling, you will likely feel relieved of thoughts or feelings that you've been bottling up. Life will become simpler and more enjoyable without the emotional dark cloud.
Deal with Your Demons
Today we’re busier than we’ve ever been; from the moment we wake up until we fall asleep. It is difficult to find the time and space to process feelings of guilt, remorse, grief or sadness. I can help you confront your issues. When you have an appointment with me you’re committed to that period of time so you can’t procrastinate bout facing your feelings. You will also be focussed on resolving your issues without distractions.
Relationships Can Benefit from a Neutral Party
People in relationships see very positive benefits from seeing me for counselling. Problems in relationships can become deeply entrenched if a person is unable to openly discuss issues and move past them. Taking the time to talk through relationship issues with a neutral third party means all sides can air their views and appreciate different perspectives.
Feel Less Alone With Your Problems
Often people feel unable to share their feelings and issues with their inner circle. Talking with a non-judgemental, caring professional gives you the freedom to talk about things you wouldn’t normally admit to your friends and family. This can help you feel less alone. There is also the simple, comforting benefit of spending time with a kind individual, especially for those feeling lonely
Feel Like Life is Easier
Talking about your emotions in psychotherapy helps you to get on with enjoying the rest of your life. I teach coping skills and strategies so you can grow through what you go through. These coping skills can help you to feel stronger, more resilient and more confident. You will also know that should anything come up, you have someone you can talk to. Speaking to me can stop compulsively worrying. Being able to focus on everyday life means you will be able to plan and implement positive changes that lift your mood. You can start setting goals and realising your dreams.
Take a Load Off Your Mind
My clients find that confiding in me takes a weight off their mind. It’s quite common for emotions that are bottled up to have lasting effects on your mood and behaviour. Long-seated issues can be the root cause of all kinds of mental health concerns. If you’re struggling to process your feelings, this affects your daily life. I have the skills and knowledge to help.
Improve Your Physical Health
Often in mental health all of the focus is on the mental side of things but your overall wellbeing plays a part too. Counselling with me can help you have more energy, sounder sleep, and a better appetite. This can have a knock-on effect, making you more active which elevates your mood.
Become More Insightful and Self Aware
Finally, examining your emotions with another person allows you to see yourself from the outside, resulting in more self-awareness. Once processed, this can have a beneficial effect, making you fell more at peace. With a boost in self-esteem, confidence follows. I am used to talking about difficult subjects so there’s nothing to feel embarrassed or ashamed about.
Who can Benefit from Seeing me?
Anyone can benefit from psychotherapy with me; sometimes it’s just good to talk to someone. Young people, middle-aged and the elderly have been known to gain value from talking therapy. It doesn’t matter what issue you are grabbling with; I can help.
