Hi beautiful blossom (Mercedes), I don't think I have ever known any one as kind and knowledgable about all thing flowers than you in my life. You have given me a new meaning to flowers and plants alike. The first thing I would like to acknowledge is the fact that when ever I need advice on my flower selection for someone you are always on hand to inform me fully one what to buy and why. You taught me that there are male/female flowers through your classes that blew my mind. You have worked so incredibly hard to be at the top of the floral industry with everything you know. My girlfriend and I did an 8 week floral design class with Mercedes and it was the most worthwhile course we ever took. We did the course so we could do the flowers for my friends daughters wedding and the result was spectacular.
I also made a floral arch for they bridal table which the couple sat under. No one could believe we did the floral arrangements, bridal and bridesmaids bouquets and the grooms men’s buttons.
Mercedes gave us so much confidence to carry the job off and it was an experience I will never forget.
We had so much fun in the class as well as taking everything Mercedes taught us seriously. Mercedes made the class interesting and everything she said made sense and made it easy to understand.
I have flowers in my home every week and every time I trim them I think of Mercedes and the class and trim and arrange them according to how we were taught.....you never forget the good teachers in your life.

What do you love most about your job?
Being around cut flowers every day.
All the cut flowers I get to play with make my heart sing with joy and happiness.
What inspired you to start your own business?
I grew up gardening in the family home as a young child.
I fell in love with landscaping and designing gardens from the oriental themed garden to the more traditional English gardens. While I was busy designing and maintaining the gardens I became to discover my extra love of flowers especially the ones with fragrance.
As an adult after graduation in Cert 4 in floristry 21 years ago and working many years as an assistant I decided to go out on my own. From Flowers by Vogue to Flowers by Mercedes and today Floral Gossip.

I write about cut flowers and talk about them on radio, documentaries, television and I LOVE working with them.
