My name is Andy, I'm a personal trainer and strength coach working out of Fitness Playground in Surry Hills.

Originally from Ireland, I grew up playing every sport I could from rugby to gaelic football, I even had a few year stint competing in powerlifting.

Andy is an awesome PT and has done an incredible job with me. He has helped me turn my life around - helping me lose weight, gain muscle, and build confidence. He puts in lots of effort preparing interesting and challenging programs that push me towards my goals. He has great technical knowledge, focusing on ensuring I am using correct technique to maximise my progress while preventing injury. He also is a really nice and fun guy - it is a pleasure to train with him. I strongly recommend Andy as a coach, I have been training with him for over a year now and will absolutely continue working with him into the future. More...

It’s been great, Andy has tailored the programs to suit my lifestyle and personal preferences which has helped out a tonne. I used to spend hours squeezing full body workouts in without really knowing why and Andy helped me understand how I can split my sessions to go for shorter times more often in the week and achieve equal, if not better results.
He’s been available for any questions on exercises I don’t understand or any concerns I might have with caloric intake etc.
Overall highly recommended and will continue to work with him moving forward!

Andy is an outstanding coach. He's passionate about what he does and is extremely knowledgeable, making sure you know the why along with how to do each exercise. He listens to his client's needs and understands that training isn't a one size fits all. I'd recommend him to anyone looking for a friendly and highly competent coach. More...

For someone who's shy and working on his self-confidence, Andy is the perfect coach. Kind and genuinely interested in helping, he is instrumental to my personal development. He's empowered me to work hard for my goals and has successfully built up my determination to improve week after week. He's the one person I trust to help me better both my physical and mental wellness.

To be honest, I look forward to my sessions with Andy because I know I'm going to feel better no matter how bad my day was going! You can't ask for a better coach. This guy will change your life for the better.

I’ve had the pleasure of knowing and working with Andy as a colleague for the past two years. I would highly recommend him as a coach, and have on many occasions referred my own clients to him for his extensive expertise in powerlifting. He is extremely passionate about helping others and is always keen to learn to better his service. All round great bloke and great coach. More...

Q&As

The basics are the basics for a reason. They work. By helping to educate people via the basics of strength training, regardless of goals, we will get where we want to go.

There isn't one. Hard work, consistency, patience.. I could go on.
The key is to build a good foundation with our training and nutrition and put the work in. No one is able to do the work for you, but with the right help and direction, you'll surprise yourself.

I'm a people person. I could talk the back legs off a donkey.
I thrive off being in a social environment and mixing that with lifting weights and helping people, couldn't ask for anything more. The Australian weather helps too.

I take what I do very seriously. When I worked part time as a PT, I never considered myself a professional. I knew that to take myself to the next level, I had to commit fully. So that's what I did. I strive to bring the best version of myself through the front door every day. I constantly aim to upskill in my craft and learn from others who have more experience and knowledge.

While the majority of my business is face to face coaching, I do offer online coaching to a handful of people.
Using apps such as trainerize and myfitnesspal to monitor your training and nutrition remotely, we then set a time for a weekly check-in call to review the week of training and set you up for the coming one.
Online coaching is usual offered in 8, 12 and 16 week blocks.

Both myself and all my colleagues at Fitness Playground aim to keep the highest standards possible. Every machine is wiped down after each use, social distancing is followed when possible, everyone is electronically checked into the gym when they scan their membership card at the gate.
