Shushila holds her client in a safe, non-judgemental space, which I have found to be rare in counselling. She allows you to deeply explore issues, guiding you when needed and never imposing. Working with Shushila, I came to a depth of understanding and clarity I could never have reached alone. She has a directness that is refreshing and wise, and is always deeply respectful and loving.
I recommend Shushila to anyone who wants to explore their life deeply and uncover and live from their own essence.

Q&As

As a counsellor, there are numerous aspects of my job that can be deeply fulfilling and rewarding.
1. Making a Difference: The core of counselling is to make a significant positive impact on the lives of individuals. Helping clients navigate their struggles, witness their growth, and see them develop stronger coping mechanisms is profoundly rewarding.

2. Building Relationships: Developing trusting relationships with clients is a unique aspect of counselling. Being part of their journey, sharing in their challenges and triumphs, and fostering a safe space for them to explore their thoughts and feelings is something special that not many professions offer.

3. Lifelong Learning: The field of counselling is always evolving, and there is always something new to learn. Whether it's new therapeutic techniques, understanding different psychological theories, or learning from each client's unique experiences, the job never becomes stagnant.

4. Flexibility and Autonomy: Running my own counselling business provides the flexibility to set my own schedule, choose areas of specialisation, and create a work environment that reflects my values and approach to therapy.

1. Personal Journey: I was drawn to the profession through my own experiences and impact of a counsellor in my own life. This personal connection to the power of therapy can inspire a desire to guide others through their healing processes.

2. Desire for Independence: Starting my own business in counselling can also stem from a desire to have more control over my professional life, including the types of therapies I offer, the clients I see, and the direction of my career growth.

3. Filling a Gap: I observed a lack of certain services in my community or specialised areas that were underserved. Starting my own business allows me to fill these gaps and serve populations that might not otherwise have access to appropriate care.

As a counsellor with a rich background in nursing and midwifery, my professional philosophy is rooted in the understanding that each individual's journey is unique and profoundly influenced by their experiences. Having observed and experienced workplace burnout and its profound impacts on personal and professional life, I am deeply committed to supporting individuals as they navigate the challenges and transitions that shape their lives.

My approach is empathetic yet empowering, recognising the delicate balance required to provide support without overstepping, thereby enabling individuals to discover and harness their own strengths. I believe that every negative experience, while potentially causing long-term issues, also holds the potential for profound growth and learning. My role is to help individuals explore these experiences, understand their impacts, and use them as stepping stones to rebuild and enhance their lives.

I employ a holistic perspective, acknowledging that physical, emotional, and mental health are interconnected and that well-being in one area can significantly influence all others. My experience as a midwife and nurse has reinforced my belief in the resilience of the human soul and the capacity for renewal at any stage of life.

In practice, I help clients build a solid foundation by establishing clear, personal standards and goals. This foundation acts as a bedrock upon which individuals can construct a resilient, fulfilling life. My goal is to guide clients in developing a toolkit of strategies and perspectives that foster resilience and enable them to manage future challenges more effectively.

Ultimately, my philosophy as a counsellor is to walk alongside my clients, offering them the tools and support needed to reclaim and reconstruct their lives, ensuring they feel heard, valued, and empowered every step of the way.

Yes, I can provide services online or remotely. I have access to Zoom and Skype as long as you have internet access. Otherwise I can also offer sessions on the phone too.
Additionally to counselling, I am also an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) and offer lactation services and baby massaging services. Lactation can also be offered on line, whilst baby massaging is face to face sessions only in NSW.
I offer support to clients both locally, interstate and overseas too, so this is not considered a barrier either.

Whilst I have no clients physically visiting my treatment rooms. I would normally space my client 15 mins apart, so cross infection is less likely to occur. I wipe down any plastics, or hard surfaces with disinfectant wipes. I change the linen in between clients. I have hand sanitiser in the room, as well as a sink, with running hot water, to wash my hands in between clients.

I have positioned the chairs s 1.5 metres apart.
I ask client to notify me if they have any flu like symptoms, or other symptoms listed that could potentially jeopardise myself or others from exposure to Covid-19 prior to our schedule sessions.
If clients have tested positive to Covid-19, then sessions can be moved to online instead.
