I offer a variety of dog training services in Hamilton, Waikato including group classes for puppies (8-16 weeks old) and teen dogs (6 to 12 months) , private training, behavioural consulting and urban pack-walking. Training is based on a model that starts with an understanding of dog behaviour and the need to build a great partnership between the owner and the dog.

We did the Puppy class and as soon as the Teen class was open for enrolments we immediately signed up. Tony is just an incredibly trainer, really knows what’s he’s talking about, always has your dogs best interest in mind, offers great training tips and guidance and provides an endless supply of food treats! ! We took Dougal to the teen class and it was great. We all learned so much. He has a calm confident presence with the dogs that it rubs off on them and the owners. We were recommended Tony for our new addition who we know will grow to be a large dog. We have just completed our 5 week puppy training class. I can't thank Tony enough for passing on his vast knowledge and skillset. I would 100% recommend Tony the Dog Trainer! Great value for money. my partner and I attended the puppy class with our wee girl Feebee. It's not like the average class where all the puppies run about willy-nilly, Tony's classes actually teach you the proper basics with your pup, that'll help them get a great start to their lives with you. The classes arnt too big at all, it's the perfect amount of people/pups and Tony takes his time with everyone, no one is left out or unseen to during the course, he makes sure that you understand the tasks given. Feebee started school super timid and afraid of everything and by the time we finished she was a different pup. She absolutely adores Tony (and she doesn't like many people). What do you love most about your job?
I love the fact that I can help people relate better to their dogs through a greater understanding of their needs and their communication. When a source of friction turns into a great relationship of trust and respect, it's hard not to love what I do.
What inspired you to start your own business?
I know what it is like to have a dog with behaviours that are a problem! I raised a very high energy, anxious and reactive border Collie from puppyhood to adulthood and experienced the same challenges that many people face with their new dogs. This experience sparked in me an intense fascination with how dogs think, learn and navigate life in our human society.
I began running puppy classes which soon led to requests for follow-up teen classes. As these classes became more widely known I began offering the occasional one-on-one behavioural consultations and private training.
Why should our clients choose you?
I have combined my enthusiasm for dogs with credible practical and theoretical experience. I undertook a 6 month mentorship programme with an experienced dog trainer, and I am in my second year of running puppy and teen group classes for a wide variety of breeds. On the theoretical side I am participating in a 3 year course that trains canine behaviourists, and have completed a Puppy Lab training course. I am a member of the Waikato Canine Professionals and have good relationships with other local dog trainers, several of who refer owners to me for the group classes.

What changes have you made to keep your customers safe from Covid-19?
Teen classes are held outside with safe spacing. Puppy classes are in an indoor venue and mask-wearing is required only when this is mandated.
Puppy Classes
Puppy classes consist of 4 weekly classes for 8-16 week old puppies, held in an indoors venue in Hamilton, Waikato.
Teen Dog Classes
Teen dog classes consist of 4 weekly classes for dogs approximately 6-18 months old, and are held either indoors or outdoors in Hamilton, Waikato.
Private Consultations
Private training can be arranged both in person or online. Various training packages are available on request.
Dog-walking
Urban, on-lead pack walks for dogs in Hamilton, Waikato.
