Q&As

I've held top senior roles in major global advertising agencies and have led teams for award-winning, independent communications companies.

I have a wealth of experience working across many sectors, including Health, Wellbeing and Fitness, FMCG, Travel and Tourism, Hospitality, Fashion and Beauty, Technology, Automotive, Financial Services, Careers and Recruitment, and Advocacy and Cause-related Marketing.

As a creative and strategic thinker, I'm passionate about developing effective campaigns that create positive outcomes. I put the experience and knowledge I've gained over the years to good use, helping Raise Communication’s purpose-driven clients achieve their goals and objectives.

Having had a career in PR and Communications for almost two decades, working for world-leading consumer brands, corporates, government departments, tourism boards, charities and NGOs, I decided to set up Raise Communications in 2019.

Looking back, I realised the projects that had always lit my fire were the ones for good causes. Working on these projects and campaigns gave me a deep sense of fulfilment, with the knowledge that I was helping tackle issues and supporting those wanting to create a positive change in the world.

Raise Communications arose from my passion for helping purpose-driven businesses and organisations tell their story and create a positive impact. Since launching over three years ago, we have worked with a wide range of amazing clients and look forward to continuing to assist them and new businesses and organisations in meeting their goals and objectives through strategic PR and communications.

I will let some of our clients do the talking here...

Lwindi is the consummate professional, and we have been delighted to have her work with us at Surf Life Saving New Zealand, both in an in-house role and providing services with Raise Communications.

In a high-pressure environment, Lwindi was quick to learn and went out of her way to deliver, as well as bringing her network of connections to help us get our messages out. She built strong relationships across our team and soon earned their trust and support.

Lwindi works to a very high standard, which is very important to us as our communications are the ‘shop window’ to most of our stakeholders, and we greatly appreciate her contribution. - Paul Dalton, Surf Lifesaving New Zealand CEO

We have worked with Raise Communications for many years now, and have always appreciated the in-depth understanding of the market, in particular the PR/Marketing support we have needed to support our endeavours.

Lwindi is quickly able to respond with well thought options around issues and challenges, while showing a great understanding of our business.

We thoroughly enjoy working with Lwindi and would recommend Raise Communications as a valuable part of any team. - Mark Gillard, New Zealand Careers Expo Director

We love helping clients do good, and Lwindi is the ultimate 'Do Good' PR expert.

Lwindi and her team bring unique and engaging hooks that capture the media and our desired audience’s attention. Lwindi never overpromises results but seems to over-deliver on each campaign.

The Good Gravy team values the partnership we have with Lwindi and the Raise Communications crew. They treat our clients the same way we do. They really care, and follow through to the end. - Lina Montero Soto, Good Gravy Director

I’ve worked with Lwindi and Raise Communications on several national public health campaigns during my time at the Ministry of Health and the Cancer Society and have always enjoyed working with them.

Lwindi is fantastic to work with – she’s creative, smart, flexible, hard-working and super well-organised, and she attracts similarly talented people around her.

Lwindi and her team consistently come up with great ideas, think out of the square, and maintain a clear focus on the Kaupapa. Raise follows through on what’s been agreed and the team maintain a very professional approach. Their contributions to our campaigns have been significant. - Candace Bagnall, Senior Public Health & Policy Analyst

All Raise Communications services can be provided remotely via email, phone and Zoom.

Raise Communications operates as a ‘virtual’ agency with core team members who work remotely, including a PR Manager, PR Assistant and Social Media Manager. Our effective systems and processes ensure we work together seamlessly to deliver great results for our clients.

Remote communication: Encourage remote communication options such as video conferences, phone calls, or emails instead of in-person meetings whenever possible.

Limit in-person meetings: If an in-person meeting is necessary, limit the number of attendees to essential participants only. Maintain social distancing guidelines during the meeting.

Sanitization and hygiene: Implement regular sanitization practices in the office, especially in high-touch areas like doorknobs, elevator buttons, and meeting rooms. Provide hand sanitizers and encourage frequent handwashing for both clients and staff.

Face masks: Encourage the use of face masks or coverings for all individuals in the office. Provide disposable masks to clients who may not have them.

Physical distancing: Arrange the office layout to ensure physical distancing. Use floor markings or signage to guide clients and staff on maintaining appropriate distances.

Health screenings: Implement health screening protocols such as temperature checks or symptom questionnaires for anyone entering the office premises. Discourage individuals with symptoms from entering.

Virtual events: Consider hosting virtual events or webinars instead of in-person gatherings to minimize the risk of transmission. Use online platforms to facilitate client engagement.

Digital document signing: Encourage the use of digital signatures or online document signing platforms to reduce the need for physical contact during contract or agreement processes.

Clean and well-ventilated space: Ensure proper ventilation in the office space. Regularly clean and disinfect common areas, meeting rooms, and equipment to maintain a safe environment.

Travel restrictions: Limit non-essential business travel for clients and staff. Encourage the use of virtual meetings or teleconferencing tools as alternatives to face-to-face interactions.

Communication and education: Keep clients informed about the safety measures being implemented in the agency. Share guidelines and best practices with clients to help them maintain their own safety protocols.

Flexible work arrangements: Consider implementing flexible work arrangements, such as remote work or staggered office schedules, to minimize the number of people in the office at any given time.

Regular updates: Stay updated on local health guidelines and regulations, and adapt the safety measures accordingly. Communicate any changes or updates to clients promptly.

A strategic communications plan outlines your goals and how you will engage with your audiences and stakeholders. It can be created for a specific event or campaign or as a roadmap for the year ahead.

The plan will include:
- Purpose, goals and objectives
- Who we're communicating to
- What we're going to say
- How we'll communicate with them
- Results and outcomes
- Timeline and budget.

PR is a way of getting the media to feature your story, so you can reach their audience with your message.

Your story may appear on TV or radio, in a newspaper or magazine, or on a website.

We use our expertise to create an engaging hook or angle to ensure the media are likely to be interested, and it will result in positive media coverage.

Stakeholder relations involve identifying, organising, monitoring and improving relationships with your stakeholders.

Developing and maintaining stakeholder relationships can be crucial to many businesses and organisations, tying in with strategic objectives and plans.

Raise can help plan and execute an effective stakeholder strategy for you.

An advocacy campaign comprises a range of activities designed to educate or raise awareness about a cause, idea or issue, build support and drive change.

These activities can include:
- PR and communications
- Contacting public officials and policymakers
- Engaging with specific interest groups
- Petitions
- Lobbying
- Fundraising.

Influencer campaigns involve engaging social media influencers to create content promoting messages about your product, business or organisation.

We provide recommendations for the best influencers to work with based on your goals, target audience and budget.

Then we work with the influencers to make sure their content delivers the results you need.

The Raise team can create compelling content for your social media channels.

After assessing your social media objectives, we:
- Develop content themes/pillars
- Design graphics/templates
- Create or source visual assets
- Create a content calendar
- Create social media posts
- Manage content approvals
- Schedule content
- Provide analysis of results.

A media promotion is a competition or giveaway that runs in a media outlet and includes agreed messaging and assets.

The promotion may appear on TV or radio, in a newspaper or magazine, on a website, or at an event.

This is an engaging way of connecting with your audience and allowing them to experience your product or offer.

Paid editorial is when a media outlet runs your story for a fee.

This is called ’sponsored content, ‘advertorial’ or native advertising.

Benefits of running paid editorial are control over the messaging and timing.

This may also be a suitable option when the story you wish to run is less likely to be picked up by the media as a PR story.

Our skilled team can produce tailored written and visual content to meet your comms objectives, including:
- Blog posts
- Newsletters
- Media releases
- Fact sheets
- FAQs
- Articles and editorial
- Web copy
- Vox pops
- Hype reels.
