My husband Jamie and I recently attended the Nelson course and we thoroughly enjoyed it. We liked the topics that were discussed and have learned some wonderful skills to do with communication, our different personalities and how to continue on in our strong and happy marriage. We went to this course as a refresh to our 6 years of marriage and have left with so much more knowledge and power. We are not religious/faith based and we were respected by Jenni & Cliff in this. Paul and I wanted to take some time out to reflect on our new marriage. We both had been married before. We have both been through marriage courses and counselling in the past. We took this retreat thinking we would have heard it all before, we thought that it would be a nice little refresher even if there was no new material . To our delight the course gave us new insights and techniques to resolve conflict. To understand each other clearly. It’s practical with deep teaching. We came to realise how hard we had become. We found so many treasures. We so needed this. I am so glad we did this. I had no idea we were destroying our marriage. We took part in an Excel marriage course with Cliff and Jenni and found it a great space to spend some time focusing on our relationship; whats great, what we’ve let slip, what we dream for the future and how we might make that happen. We hadn’t done a marriage course for seven years as life flashed by, and a lot can change in that time! It was great to re-evaluate now: we now have children, have had changes in careers and have grown and developed as people. I love the analogy of doing a marriage course being like getting your warrant of fitness- checking the parts you might not on a daily basis. We found the broad topics covered really great, with lots of relatable content and humour. If you are serious about keeping your marriage “roadworthy” then I highly recommend you take the time out to invest into your marriage.
