We would like to sincerely thank the team at Northland Painting for the fantastic job they did painting our home earlier this year. We have recently sold the property after a successful three-week marketing campaign, and throughout the process we received countless compliments on how well the home presented. Our journey with the Northland Painting team has been nothing but outstanding. We have interacted with multiple members of their team and have found them all to be engaging, respectful, diligent and overall - just wonderful human beings. We knew there was a lot to do with sprucing up our home and that it was well outside of our abilities so it was a no brainer seeking the services of a team who could make everything happen for us. From the get-go, we knew we had made the right choice, the prep work was great, our floors and cabinets protected, there was a clean-up at the end of each day, and we had the freedom to walk through at any time. We take our hats off to Tua and Pala who have such an eye for detail, handyman skills that have fixed previous shoddy workmanship and some Fijian ways that have had us chuckling. Wow. My garage was feeling very sorry for itself, holes in the walls and very dull, now it's like like a new room. We hired Northland Painting to do the two-story portion of our home. I had painted all the single level portions, but my wife didn’t want me working on scaffolding. NP appeared to have rave reviews, so we figured we may pay a bit more, but supporting local.The crew they sent were from Auckland. They come here during the week, then take their earnings back to Auckland. This really floored me. Then they tried to get the job done in a day. We paid in the high thousands for this job and were told by the salesman (and quoted) filling of holes, sanding and spot priming, repair of holes, gaps, and cracks, then two coats of paint. All the prep should be done prior to painting. Instead, the crew did a little filling, then out came the spray gun. After six hours they started packing up their trucks. You cannot do two coats in six hours.Since there was no supervisor on site, I had to go out and call time-out. I started pointing out all the things we were promised would be fixed. I could have spent hours but that’s not my job. The paint was put on so heavy there were sags and runs in their attempt to make one-coat look like the two-coat job they were supposed to supply. Other areas were so thin you could still see the old paint through from underneath. Obviously not two coats.Twice more I had to get them to return, and I again had to supervise and point out the discrepancies. The company supervisors, as well as Campbell the Owner, were always empathetic and thought the crew would fix it correctly once they left. But the crew just wanted to slap some paint and get to the next job. I spent several hours of my own time once they were off-site as it was easier than directing them.Overall I feel I got a sub-standard job and paid way more than it was worth. Anyone who knows me understands that I'm not shy with experimenting with a paintbrush. Now that I am a little older I have called for help from Northland Painting to paint some ceilings for us and to remedy the old age failings of a 1930s home and give it an outside face lift.
