Is it the dream of every architect to have their own firm one day? I can recall hours and hours of conversations that I’ve had with other architects throughout my career where this topic was front and center of our discussions. I commissioned Jamie Whelan Studios (JWS) to design and project manage the extension and renovation of my home in Greenwich, UK. I was looking for a home that enabled regular entertaining and cooking for friends and family, with a more seamless connection with the garden and having a bright and airy feel. Due to planning constraints the kerbside appearance of the house was limited to the existing house design, but as the house was recently built (25 years old), luckily there were no such constraints inside the house. JWS were easy to deal with from the outset, quickly iterating the design to get to something that perfectly encapsulated the design objectives and resulting in the house of my dreams, my 'forever home'. I was clear from the outset that I didn't have the time or skills to be managing the on-site work, contractors, quality etc and JWS professionally managed this from day 1, through to the very, very end. It's hard to overstate how important this was in ensuring that the (sub-)contractors delivered the design to the exacting standards and quality that had been promised. I have further plans for the few remaining upstairs rooms that were not touched by the original renovation work, and cannot wait for Jamie to work his magic once more.

Worked with Peter on an old cottage renovation with extension. Would highly recommend Reter. He is an excellent architect who is wonderful to deal with and highly professional. Peter was incredibly knowledgeable and very helpful.

Joe Rossney was the architect for the renovation of my 1890s mid-terraced townhouse, which had significant challenges, including damp issues, the addition of a new extension, and a complete rewire and replumb. Joe was always contactable throughout the process, which I really appreciated. His thoroughness and attention to detail ensured the project was carried out to a high standard, and his commitment to following regulations gave me confidence that everything was done correctly. I’m very happy with the outcome and would recommend him for anyone taking on a similarly complex renovation.
