With a great recommendation from our designer, and after some pleasant meetings, we hired Jim Smith from Smithwood Builders and started our project.
Our full house reno consisted of a complete reconfiguration of all three floors. Turning a 40 year old home, with an add on, into a modern 2019 dream home.
During the course of construction, we had full intentions of following our well established plans, but, as with any “reno”, plans change. Not a problem for Jim. This is where the true professionalism of Jim started to shine.
Never getting frustrated with our seemingly endless questions and small changes, Jim helped us create what is now our absolute dream home. Jim’s willingness to explain when we didn’t understand, his willingness to listen when we had ideas, good or bad, and his patience when we hit the frustration point of a project was all Pro Builder.
Jim’s impressive construction knowledge also played a huge role when we changed mid stream adding in steel beams and steel posts which created an even better ocean view than what we anticipated on.
The quality of the trades is also what makes a good builder, and Jim’s trades are first rate. Jim knows what to look for and they know what Jim expects, a great combination.
Can’t say enough good things.

I have personally worked with Jim at Smithwood for many years. We used to work together at a design-build company before I started my own independent design firm. He project managed and ran many of the jobs I had designed, and they all went so smoothly. Having completed hundred of projects over the last 7 years at my own firm, I have dealt with countless contractors, good and TERRIBLE. Jim is by far one of the best I have had the pleasure of working with. Jim is a hands-on perfectionist, great communicator and amazing person who shows true care for his clients and he respects the importance of good design in a great project outcome (something that is rare). Jim could not get a higher recommendation from me.
