I just filed a Fraud under $5000 claim with the Toronto Police. Ross Chapman will ask for a retainer fee, and then if he does keep responding, he will do a bit of work maybe, but keep asking for more money. Then he stops responding. This is his pattern. Don't be scammed like at least 4 of us have been. If you have been scammed, post your experience on here, and file a Fraud Claim with the police, if he has not responded to you within a month. Erin, I'm so sorry to read this! Just saw it now. He did the same thing to you as to me, and I wondered if he was doing this to others. Thank you for posting! Please contact me. Ross did the same thing to another non-profit organization last year as well (did not do the work and stopped responding, but eventually when threatened, he did respond and gave lame excuses), and that manager would be a witness with us. You can search my name on the internet- find me on linked-in. Search my name and Kinesiologist and you will find me. Let's join forces, and file a fraud claim, and report him to police. Bark was no help to me whatsoever. I will not hire a bookkeeper or any other professional through Bark. It says that Ross was hired 127 times. I rate him as a zero, but there was no choice. Ross Chapman of Polaris requested a retainer fee of $300 to look at my books on Feb. 1st, 2021. He did not do any work. He has refused to respond to my phone calls and emails, since I paid the retainer fee. The date today is April 3rd, 2021. I have emailed him and phoned him over 25 times. I have contacted other people who did work with him, and he is not responding to one who he worked for, and he reportedly pulled the same tricks on another organization last year. Even if you are sick, you should make sure your clients get service, or refund their fees. It's just plain common sense. I suspect he lacks self-awareness that his reputation has been damaged beyond repair. I will be filing for fraud with the police and the government. I gave him many chances to refund me, or do the work. This was calculated. He knows that if he charges an amount that is just enough to get something for nothing, but not too much for a small business owner to just give up and mark it as another loss, that he might get away with it. I paid a retainer fee of $300 on Feb. 1st,2021 and Ross Chapman of Polaris Bookkeeping has not replied to me since, and is not refunding my retainer fee.
I see he's been hired 127 times since posting on Bark. At the time I was contacted by him, it was 6 times. How many others of you have been scammed? I am starting a fraud claim against him. He is not worth a 1/5 but I couldn't rate him lower.

Has anyone else had any experience working with Ross? He sounded helpful and eager to help me with my bookkeeping needs when he called as a result of my posting on Bark, and he took a $300 retainer fee. Then he called once for a password, and then I didn't hear back from him. After many calls and asking another of his customers for help, he called and left a message on a Sat. morning. I returned his call 3 times now, a week later. After 5 weeks since paying the retainer, I have received no services, and no return phone call. All I am asking for now is a refund (Please). More...

I use various online apps to connect with my clients. Online accounting software allows 24hr access to your books but also allows the professionals that assist you access as well. All at the same time.
What changes have you made to keep your customers safe from Covid-19?
Going virtual was always a goal of my firm. Covid has just bumped the timeline up. Meeting clients via Google workspaces or via Zoom is just one method of maintaining a safe environment. Another is the paperless transfer of documentation. All documents are to be transferred electronically. This adds a further safety measure as digitized documents are less apt to be lost.
