I signed up to the full producer program without any background or knowledge in music and no idea if I would even ever be able to make a full song. I took the full producer program at off center and my experience was amazing. I went into the course knowing nothing at all about ableton and left with enough knowledge of the DAW to be able to use my creativity to make my own songs. Erik and the two other teachers that i had were very knowledgeable, approachable and had great methods of getting their lessons accross. I took the Full DJ Program in Fall 2017 knowing absolutely nothing on how to DJ and came out after the course with a ton of knowledge and feeling confident in my abilities to take the next step. The instructors Chel and Erik are really awesome, down to earth and friendly individuals who teach with passion! The course takes on a maximum of 5 students which is amazing because it makes for a much more intimate learning experience. The space is also very warm, welcoming, and inspiring. I got taught by Jonathan (for full producer program) who is an incredibly polite person and really knows his stuff. Also, his examples are pretty unique and are mostly food-related because, I guess, he loves to cook. He knows a lot of songs so he gives pretty good examples too in order to teach a concept. Erik, the owner of the school, is also a very nice guy. Overall, the staff is very helpful and knowledgeable. The classes are not expensive either. I started with zero knowledge and ended with more than what I expected. Teachers are not strict and overpowering teachers rather they are your friends from the first day. High Fives at the end of each class and graduating by adding myself to another group of professionals I consider my "other" family. What I learned in 3 short months was beyond my expectations. Small classes, friendly teachers, perfect setting. In January, Ableton Live was a complete mystery to me, with no clue where to start, now I can produce tracks and even remix existing tracks. Best teachers I've ever met! Off Centre Dj School is not only learning and developing your skills but also communicating with other people. The instructors helped me to understand my mistakes and showed the functions of the turntables, mixer and software which I didn't undestand previously. I don't think you can find another group of real people that invest their time in you and want you to succeed. I learned so much in the 3 months I was enrolled. Each class was something new and fresh to build upon what was already taught. Besides all of the amazing knowledge and experience you gain, what stands out for me is the fact that it's an amazing learning environment and you always feel welcome. Very good class overall. I took the intro 6wk course and it was exactly as described - a perfect introduction covering all the fundamentals and leaving me feeling pretty comfortable. They offer small groups (5max), have very flexible admin with decent response time, a good teacher in Sheldon who knows what he's talking about and communicates well, and is fairly well priced. If I had to complain, given the importance of practice time and exposure, I'd say some kind of open schedule/drop in should be offered. PROS: Great starting point, great set up, great teacher, great experience. CONS: No outside class practice time (though I've heard they're working on this), and you won't walk away being able to mix, but understanding how to mix and having a feel for it - big difference...then again, it's unrealistic to expect that from a 9hr intro course.
