Q&As

Corporate tax, financial statements, personal tax, accounting and tax advice.

Businesses need to hire a great accountant in order to manage their operations effectively. Having up to date information from their bookkeeper provides them with the information they need. Having a great accountant that can help guide them regarding what to do with that information is vital to their business. Too many businesses operate without any sense of their fiscal framework. Accountants help provide a clearer picture of the way forward.

I enjoy hearing a client tell me that I've brought them some peace of mind.

The realization that I could do it. Prior to starting my own firm, I worked at another one for 12 years. Over that period of time, I learned aspects about the public accounting industry that I liked and disliked. I was actually looking to leave public accounting, but towards the end of my time there in 2019, I met with three different practitioners who ran their own accounting practices. I considered working with them (each in a different capacity). I saw what they 'brought to the table' and realized that they were my peers, rather than potential employers. I realized that I could run my own practice in a way that suited me.

Clients should choose me because I can be a calming influence and help provide peace of mind. It can be challenging for business owners and taxpayers to navigate the system. Providing great service to these clients allows them to focus on what they do best.

Also, as a designated accountant, there are certain ethical standards I am required to maintain as well as I am required to stay on top of current developments in tax reporting requirements and accounting standards.

Absolutely. I meet with clients online via Teams or Zoom and hold discussions over the phone where applicable. I utilize Quickbooks Online, Xero and other online accounting application and provide a portal/link for clients to upload documents.

They haven't really been changes since I started my practice near the beginning of the pandemic. I largely provide services online and meet with the clients via Zoom, Teams or discuss matters with them over the phone. When we do meet in person, applicable safety measures are enacted.
