We have hired James for four separate projects now, and he continues to exceed our expectations. He just finished replacing our old deck and doing a full renovation of our garage, and the transformation is incredible. James is unique because he truly cares about the quality of the build and ensuring we are happy with every detail. He makes sure that his crews on site are respectful and clean up after themselves which I've always really appreciated. J Murphy’s Contracting (James) had renovated two bathrooms of neighbours and were very happy with the results. I am a 61 year old woman who has NEVER done a reno. I have no DYI skills and was terrified of doing a reno. After living in my townhome for 20 years it was in desperate need of an update and repairs. James listened carefully to what I wanted. Due to my lack of knowledge he would provide suggestions, especially when it came to priorities and how to get the biggest bang for my buck as I’m retired on a fixed budget. I had my kitchen and bathroom gutted and reno’d. All the floors were changed and the wall, doors and ceiling were painted. I had new light fixtures installed as well as new bathroom sinks and quartz countertops in all bathrooms. James provides a detailed payment scheduled based on milestones. Other than a small deposit, you don’t pay James until the milestone is reached. That offered me such peace of mind. I don’t know how he does it but if you need to contact him he is there. He responds to texts in second/minutes. He has answered my calls when away at a sporting function. James is there for you when you need him. His employees and subcontractors are very skilled and helpful. I had all the help I needed in making design choices and I needed a lot of help as I was new to everything. Everything is complete. James renovated all our 3 washroom and his work was seamless. We knew he was a true professional from the way he sent us the initial price offer and how he broke down the cost of each part of the project. Whatever we dreamed of he made it happen, and one of the projects required quite a change in the structure. We hired James and his team to put a kitchenette in our basement. Right from the start, the entire team was great to deal with--very professional, skilled, conscientious, and detail-oriented (for someone who is a bit of a perfectionist, this was really appreciated). At the start of the job, James discovered a serious problem unrelated to the installation of the kitchenette. He and his team took on the unanticipated repairs at an extremely busy time for them. I work 9-5 and I can't express how HELPFUL it was to have worked with these guys. Communication is always on point and whenever they needed to ask me anything they would call or do a video call so everybody was always on the same page before anything got installed or moved. I will definitely keep James' number on speed dial. His crew was friendly, eager to help, cleaned after themselves and did a fantastic job. Asked J. Murphy for a quotation; a tiling job. He came out to have a look on July 10th 2015. The job is to tile 5 steps outside my house, and I provide the tile which is already picked out. J. Murphy said that the job will take about one day and he'll send me the quotation. I emailed him on Jul 20th asking where the quote is. The automated reply said he's 'out of town' and returning on the 27th. Finally the quote arrived on August 26th. It was $300 for power washing the 5 steps?! And $2,450 (all excluding tax) for tiling the 5 steps (not including the tiles themselves)?! I was very surprised at the high quote for 'about a days work' since his website offers a standard price of "$55/Hr". I asked him why he's charging for over 5 days of work for a job which will take 1 day of work? He replied: "How much would you charge to crawl around on concrete and breath in concrete and stone dust all day?" More...
