I am a classically trained violinist with 25 years' playing experience. I have 17 years' experience of performing in various orchestras, rock ensembles and professional jazz bands as a violinist and guitarist, and have completed an MMus in Jazz Performance (violin) at Wits University.

What do you love most about your job?
Teaching: I love helping students achieve their goals using an approach that suits them individually, whether that is based on reading music and meticulously analysing the work, or helping them learn how to develop the skill of playing by ear in the most efficient way possible.
I am highly focused on teaching correct technique and posture so as to avoid discomfort and injury, and find it particularly rewarding when a student overcomes any given obstacle by making various small adjustments to their playing.
Performing: I love the joy and creativity of playing with other musicians, and in doing so bringing enjoyment to the audience - whether as background entertainment or in the context of a sit-down concert.
What inspired you to start your own business?
I grew up in a musical household, and although I studied to become a lawyer (and graduated with a BA LLB from Wits University), I knew that music was the most important part of my life, and I couldn't imagine making a career out of anything else!

From beginners - all ages welcome
Lessons are tailored to suit the specific interests and needs of each student, and are structured around the following options:
- Focusing primarily on classical repertoire and technique
- Incorporating alternative styles and techniques (jazz/rock/fiddle)
- Learning the art of improvisation (jazz, blues and rock)
- Learning music theory, transcription and arranging techniques in order to develop your own compositions.
Lessons are in person or online, at a rate of R450 per hour, R380 for 45 minutes, or R300 per half hour, and are booked and paid for monthly in advance via EFT.
Jazz Duo
Jazz Violin and Piano or Guitar duo, available for special occasions and corporate functions in and around Johannesburg.
Creates a relaxed atmosphere of classic jazz ballads and standards for guests to enjoy as background entertainment.
