True conditioning has an environment like no other. Their new studio is large, bright, airy and beautiful! The trainers are all so warm and welcoming and encourage everyone at any level. I have worked with Pilar as a personal trainer for a few years and couldn’t ask for more. She pushes and challenges me to work hard and reach my personal best and is such an inspiration herself! Her warmth, encouragement and wonderful sense of humour keep me going even when I feel like I’ve given it all! Seeing Sophie offer a free consultation on Facebook and me clicking, "Sign Up Now" was the best thing I've ever done! Having never done TRX before or or even knowing what it was I was a little nervous, but from the first day I walked through those doors to today I have been greeted with smiles and support! I LOVE the variety of workouts, how I get to use them to the best of MY bodies ability and gain strength with every class. The music and positive energy are so uplifting the hour of workout just flies by. Recently I've injured myself, (outside of the gym), and am so thankful for the new Physio and Massage therapies that are on Location. I love the new location at the heart of Steveston! The gym is spacious, clean, and has more workout equipment that enables a variety of workout routines. I joined True Conditioning 4 months ago and I have not looked back. I signed up initially for the Transformation Challenge. Through individual nutritional counselling with Sophie plus the group classes I managed to drop inches and lose weight within 8 weeks. From there I was hooked!!With classes such as Strong, Sweat, Endurance, Power I am constantly challenged. The trainers are an exceptional group! Seeing how fit they are is inspiring and motivating which has me pushing myself outside my comfort zone and coming back for more. Before discovering True Conditioning, I had tried many different workout programs. I had gone to boot camps, bought exercise DVD’s, and focused only on cardio at the gym. Once I started training at TC, I was taught not to be afraid of strength training. The trainers were attentive and friendly, and pushed me to levels that I didn’t yet know I was capable of reaching. I lost weight, but more importantly, I gained strength, knowledge, and so much confidence both in and out of the gym. I am totally addicted! This is my favourite gym in the heart of Steveston village. The new location is much more spacious and is full of new cardio equipment. The instructors are fun but challenging too. Prepare to sweat a lot! There are lots of windows and natural light here. I’d give it a 10/10. More...

Signing up with Tara is one of the best decisions I've ever made. Prior to meeting her, I was never motivated to go to the gym, but Tara has changed all that. She genuinely cares about her clients and is incredibly knowledgeable and accommodating. Our sessions together are always really tough, but Tara keeps me encouraged and motivated to the point where I find myself looking forward to each session. Her easy going personality makes her a lot of fun and easy to get along with, which makes our sessions even better. What’s also great is that she’s always mixing things up so it’s never the same workout week after week. Before training at True Conditioning, I struggled to find a gym with not only a positive and high energy atmosphere, but also workouts that were challenging and new. As a person who grew up playing competitive team sports at a high level, I was injured and could no longer continue to play team sports for fun and exercise. Instead, I tried everything under the sun: personal training, yoga, spin, going to the gym alone and even outdoor bootcamps (to name a few). No matter which gyms I tried, or what workouts I did, I found myself bored of the exercises after a short amount of time. Since I was always a team player, I found myself gaining more motivation from group fitness classes due to my competitive nature than working out solo…unfortunately it is difficult to find group fitness classes that are inviting and challenging.  Cue: My first time at True Conditioning. I remember my first class over 2 years ago, and what I remember even more clearly was how sore I was after that TRX workout…. EVERYWHERE. I loved that feeling! I had not felt that challenged or sore in such a long time and it felt great to try something new.  The more I went, the more I realized that this was the place for me. The trainers were welcoming, and each class was hard, leaving me dripping with sweat. What I began to love even more was that each class was not only different, but always packed with new exercises, formats or combos I had never seen before – this keeps everything fresh and interesting; something that is very important to me!I am so impressed with the overall strength and confidence I have gained over the past couple years from True Conditioning. Although TRX training can be a tough workout, I constantly see myself getting stronger. I would advise anyone thinking of True Conditioning to sign up right away! If you are looking for a fun, energetic, sweaty and challenging workout, this is the place for you! The trainers are supportive, the clients are all inclusive, and everyone is pushing each other to hit their personal best. The Winter Transformation challenge for me has truly been transformational. The most positive change for me has been learning to focus on nutrition and fuelling my body, working on getting stronger and celebrating the small as well as the big wins along the way. I am no longer obsessed with the scale or tracking every morsel I put into my mouth. I am back on track with fitness and feel stronger and healthier. Sophie, Pilar and the entire team at True Conditioning genuinely care about their clients success. Their support and encouragement, along with the advice and information they share is invaluable. Having the support of the other participants, the ability to share successes, recipes and common challenges was amazing. I’ve got a great new set of habits to keep me on track and I’m looking forward to setting new goals and achieving them. None of which have to do with a number on the scale! I have been a member who works out regularly at True Conditioning for a few years. What drives me to workout is the fun welcoming environment and the chance to build flexibility, strength and reduce stress. Recently I was fully shown just how far I have come by THE BEST non scale victory. When I started at True Conditioning I struggled to ball slam a 4kg medicine ball... with strong, caring, motivating, supportive guidance and training from all the trainers (and some members too) despite being the largest person in the room most of the time, trainers see me as more than just my size and I have always felt encouraged and supported to keep going. Recently I was shown just how far I have come from that 4kg medicine ball of Hell... I helped a friend move... I lifted my side of a 3 person sturdy couch, navigated it through narrow hallways, down steps, across a yard, up some more steps and into another narrow hallway like it was nothing... honestly felt like I could have done it with 1 hand... I carried and lifted things for 3 hours... I helped her husband carry their dryer up 3 steps and lift it up and onto their washer like it was nothing... unfrikken believable. Since coming to True Conditioning I am happy about what I’ve lost, but I am truly blown away with all I have gained. I have joined 2 of their 8 week health challenges recently and have learned invaluable knowledge about nutrition. Best Gym!! After I had my Daughter I was nervous to go to a gym. I was unsure of myself and my new body. True Conditioning was so understanding, motivating and knowledgeable. Before the challenge, I had gone through a rough few years. I was previously very active but slowly succumbed to inactivity and unhealthy eating. I kept saying it was baby weight, but realized that's no excuse as my child is now almost school-aged. I was losing confidence in myself and just hated how tired I was and how I looked in photos. I found the challenge randomly on Facebook and joined on a whim. I am so grateful I gave myself the gift of this challenge. My experience was incredible! I loved how approachable Sophie and all of the staff at True Conditioning are. It was motivating to see other people doing the same Challenge at workouts and to have them encourage each other in person and online. The emphasis on new healthy habits were incremental, approachable, and feel sustainable. I was initially hard on myself for not being perfect, but was instead celebrated for being healthier and stronger each day. Every little step I made added up to something great. I lost over 19 pounds, 4.6% body fat, 4 inches in my waist, and am starting to feel confident again. If you are thinking about joining the Transformation Challenge, please treat yourself to it! My experience at True Conditioning has been inspiring. Participating in personal training has made me stronger and more confident. In addition to losing 2.5% body fat and 9.5 inches over the course of 8 weeks, It has helped me to love my body for what it can do. In the training sessions, Sophie pushed me in ways I would never push myself -- she just believed in me and knew I could do more than I thought I could. I came to True Conditioning with a few sports and age-related injuries, hoping to recover and rebuild my strength so I could enjoy my sports and improve my overall quality of life. I really appreciated how the TRX workouts could always be modified to my needs. Within a month I was seeing real results and have never looked back. Almost two years later, I feel like I am at my fittest and bonus, trimmest ever! This is a welcoming place with all ages and fitness levels. My family and I joined True Conditioning (TC) for 9 months. We have enjoyed all the varieties of TRX classes that they offer. This is a full body workout gym which helps build core strength and cardio. We are grateful to the trainers who are attentive to our form and encourage us to just try a little harder. I happened to pick up a flyer for True Conditioning's Grand Opening of their new location while I was shopping at Lululemon a few months ago, and was intrigued, having dabbled in TRX in the past.  I bought an introductory Groupon in April, and really haven't looked back, and try to get there at least three times a week if my schedule permits.  Friendly and knowledgeable instructors, super challenging classes, great facilities and convenient scheduling make this a fitness win for me.  For those who don't know, TRX is a suspension training fitness system where you use your own body weight as a form of resistance.  And yep, it can be as hard as it sounds.  What's great about it is that you can really modify each exercise to an intensity level that suits you, whether you want to level up, or take things down a notch (life note: ALWAYS LEVEL UP).  I personally find classes that are an entire hour on the suspension trainers to be a bit boring - what's great is that True Conditioning offers a variety of classes that incorporate cardio and other strength training elements to give you a real variety.  I'm a big fan of the Circuit 360 class - 10 or so stations that you rotate through 3 times, reminds me in a good way of high school gym class - and also the lethal Tabata, that always makes me want to simultaneously cry and jump for joy when I'm finished it. There are classes focused just on core, there is a beginner's class for people wanting to focus on their technique, and there are often one-off workshops that allow you to use the trainers in a new way (I really enjoyed TRX yoga, for instance).  I've done all of them, and they're all hard, yo.  Don't expect to have an easy workout here.  You will be sweating, alot.  And it's goooooood.I've taken classes with almost all the trainers (sorry Rhonda, one of these days I'll get up early!) and while they all have unique personalities, there are a few characteristics that Sophie, Ryan, Pilar and Kristina all share. They're welcoming, encouraging, and also uncompromising: they want you to work hard, they know you can, and they aren't going to let you settle for less.  Other important "gym considerations":  the workout facilities are brand spankin' new, always super clean, class sizes are limited so you never feel crowded, and parking is generally easy.  However there are no showering facilities, just one washroom that can double as a changing space (which by the way always smells AWESOME - thanks Bath & Bodyworks!).  For the most part there are no lunchtime classes, and the early morning classes are EARLY.   Your fellow gym-goers run the gamut here, from tentative first-timers to people who have been training with True Conditioning for years and feel it's "their" place.  Sometimes I go to classes and everyone is chatty, welcoming and part of a real "team effort," with lots of high fives and laughs, sometimes I go to class where there are little cliques present and no one speaks to me at all.  It can really, really vary depending on the class.  For the most part I don't care, as I'm there to work my butt off.  That being said, True Conditioning is really trying to build a real sense of community here that is winning out over any social standoffish-ness, and the trainers are always the first to make new folks feel welcome and insist on that inclusivity from other clients.  There are regular social events organized, such as last weekend's Grouse Grind hike, that are designed to have clients bond and socialize.  I think those kind of "everyone's welcome" values will ultimately win out over any other vibe that may exist, and I really think True Conditioning are building a cool, diverse community that values and celebrates its members and their individual strengths.  Having just moved to the area, I really like going to class and seeing people who I know, who say hi and want to chat, and that's a great thing that TC has given to me.  In terms of results, my fitness has crazy improved, which is what I needed after being in a bit of a gym rut.  When I started in April, I couldn't really do burpees or box jumps.  Now I do both, all the time.  Planking?  Easy.  I can't wait to see what other challenges I can take on as my training here progresses.  I always leave True Conditioning feeling like an athletic badass. I'm pretty much addicted to class here and would go everyday if my schedule permitted it. Should also mention that adorable bulldog slash mascot slash laziest trainer ever Winston is normally on hand if Sophie or Ryan are teaching.  He's super lovey, not scary at all, and even if you're not a dog person I DARE you not to fall in love with this guy the first time he tries to lie down with you on your mat.  I love working out at True Conditioning, and I'm sure you will too.  Give it a shot - your abs will thank you! I was the true meaning of unfit and lazy but ever since I've joined true conditioning through groupon on Jan 21 2016 I lost 35 pounds, I started the groupon that day and started a low carb diet and now Im 10lbs away from my goal. Sophie is a good motivator!

Tried my first TRX class and I LOVED it. I consider myself pretty fit but this workout was really challenging and the trainer was great about giving me suggestions to modify the exercises and make them harder. The class was capped at 12 people so the trainer was really good at giving everyone individual attention and also being sure to correct form. After every set of exercises she kept people moving with cardio active rest which I really liked as well. Overall I think this studio is great for all fitness abilities. The owners and staff are extremely knowledgeable and motivating. You'll walk out of this place with a smile! More...

I went to my first TRX class at True Conditioning with a friend who has been going for a year. I was really nervous because sometimes fitness classes and instructors can be intimidating. Not the case at True Conditioning! Sophie was warm and encouraging, and the energy in the studio is bright and uplifting. I was very nervous about my first Class, I'm am very out of shape and overweight...it's easy for me to be intimidated by the gym environment and honestly I almost walk by instead of going in! I'm so glad I didn't! The staff is warm, welcoming and motivating! The studio is fresh, bright and in the heart of beautiful Steveston. The class kicked my butt but I did it and I really enjoyed it too. I like that the TRX class could be modified for beginners like me and with a few extra steps I was shown how to challenge myself further. I've started training with Sophie for personal training, and have not stopped since. It has been a year now! I love how she incorporates a mixture of exercises that keeps it challenging and fun at the same time. It's not always easy being consistent, but because Sophie is incredibly encouraging and compassionate, I always leave the sessions feeling stronger and better (emotionally & physically). Personally, it's most important to have trust in the person I train with. Trust to know that they know what's best for me and to help me achieve what I otherwise would have doubted myself :) I can't be happier and am looking forward to the new space they will be moving into in September! I was so excited when this gym opened up in Steveston and I am even more excited that it's totally awesome!
