My first time going here. Always went to a different sushi restaurant in the area. Everything was fantastic and the price was comparable to a fast food place. Definitely recommend
Delicious fresh sushi, great flavours. Good service.
We had a great lunch there. The sushi, bento box and ramen were fantastic.
Service was quick. Authentic menu items were pretty authentic. Had it’s own touch to the foods. Staff were friendly. Prices were fair, portions were generous. Table service was brilliant. Highly recommend. More...
Service was slow
Great place for late night nibbles. Super friendly staff, well priced tasting menu and all freshly made even at 11pm. The tempura tofu was amazing.
Went recently for my brothers birthday! It's a lovely laid back but classy environment. Service was great - friendly, quick.I had the edamame to start. I found they wete medicore; not quite as salty and a little on the smaller side. For my rolls I had the spicy scallop and mini kamikaze rolls. They were very good! The mini kamikaze may be one of my favorite rolls. Deepfried, cream cheese... how can you go wrong?Lots of parking available, but it's a busy lot as it's in Dartmouth Crossing. More...
Beautiful food made by beautiful people. Best sushi in downtown St. John's.
By far some of the best service and freshest food in St. John's. In particular the mini kamakaze roll and the Yaki Soba bowls are out of this world delicious.
Luv this place for good sushi
Satisfied my sashimi craving. I got the assorted sashimi plate - my favourites were salmon and white tuna. The pieces were nice large chunks hehe :). Good value for your money.
Always a great experience!
As promised, the spicy miso soup was a life changing experience. The rest of the Bento box combo was asking great. I chose the salmon.
Fresh simple good serving experience, serve Quick!Good to go maybe not remarcable but fills our sushi needs :p
I leave there satisfied everytime. Spicy salmon rolls and deep fried icecream are crazy good. Favorite spot around
Great food, drinks and service!
Sushi is always my fav. But their sushi, i like it more.. and the prices also very reasonable
Ellie was by far the best server I've ever had. She made my first east coast sushi experience amazing. As for the sushi itself, 5 stars. Would recommend this place to anyone. More...
I love this place. This is our go-to date night spot. Nice, relaxing atmosphere, great service and some of the best sushi you'll find in St. John's metro. Don't miss the Firecracker's Dream and Sweet Dreams, and come during Tsu-nami Happy Hour for a great deal. More...
Definitely a new favorite sushi spot in St. John's. Quick and friendly service on a Wednesday evening. Rolls are generously sized, reasonably priced and have great quality fish. After some experimenting at various sushi restaurants in the city I've found it to be better worth your $$ to buy several nice rolls and appetizers rather than paying for unlimited sushi at a lower quality location (unlimited sushi often turns out to be more money than just buying what you wanted). Definitely reccommend Sushi Nami! More...
TL;DR: Awesome food & service, decent prices, enjoyable space, wheelchair accessible!____________________Service was really friendly, quick, and accommodating to requests. Never once had to get our servers' attention for more water or anything as she checked and gave refills regularly.Restaurant is very clean and has nice decor. Pleasant vibe all around. Sushi was fresh and REALLY good. Prices are reasonable for the experience. Also, despite being down a flight of stairs, the restaurant is wheelchair accessible, with a little wheelchair elevator and ramp to the left of the doors. Always good to see restaurants putting in effort to be more accessible!Overall lovely restaurant, will be coming here for sushi in Halifax from now on, even if I have to spend a few extra bucks. Great specials awesome service! Relaxing atmosphere
Fast service, very clean, amazing menu selections
Love this place. Great sushi and friendly staff. I always visit for lunch when I am in town!
Excellent food, my sushi combo was fresh and well prepared. Colleague had a teriyaki dinner that he enjoyed and the presentation was well done. Quiet atmosphere.
Excellent sushi. Friendly service. We will definitely be back.
As huge sushi lover this place diffinitely did the trick however the service was slow and difficult to deal with. The rolls were tasty and the atmosphere definitely set a warm mood for a date night or small gathering.
Great food and wonderful service. Sashimi is very very fresh! I love it so much!
Great service. Beautiful presentation. Best Miso soup I've ever had. Rolls are great... not greasy. Sashimi's are big pieces. Not AYCE but the quality is far superior to AYCE places. Will definitely be back More...
Ramen is good and so is the sushi. Can't go wrong.
The food was good and the service was excellent. Our waitress, Galina, was very attentive and helped me with any questions I had. She made my experience great and is the reason I’d recommend this restaurant. More...
My favorite sushi place in the city. Everything is delicious, and there's something for everyone, even those who don't like fish. The grilled veggie Maki is to die for, as are the rest of the vegetarian options. The together forever roll is amazing, if you want something with chicken. All the presentation is gorgeous as well, I wish I took pics before I ate it! More...
Love this spot. Their Raman is killer.
Solid sushi in the downtown area
Delicious, affordable, classy and trendy. Overall excellent.
Best sushi I have had in Canada and usa. Pleasantly surprised to find this gem in st. John's!
Exzelent sushi, and good service. The VIP keychain is a good deal when you visit the restaurant on occasion
Fresh, flavorful and great modern fusions.
Awesome sushi and service
Amazing food, customer service, prices, hours, and atmosphere. Also one of the most impressive selections of vegan options I've seen in a non-vegan restaurant. I highly recommend!!!
Great food great service!
Food was good and wait staff were very attentive and helpful.
Probably the best sushi in St. John's.
Best sushi in Newfoundland
So much on the menu that I find it hard to choose but I have loved everything. Try the sweet potato maki.
Really good food. Probably some of the best rolls in the city
This was my first time here. It was also my first time at a sushi restaurant. I had the Tropicana roll which was really good but I preferred the volcano roll that my lunch companion had. Dessert was really good. The service was really good and the prices were pretty good. I will be back :) More...
Gluten free options !!!
Affordable and variety of options available. Great Japanese-style ambience and the service is the best.
Great noodles, great sushi, fast service!
Best price for quality sushi in town never a bad experience and always great service.
Amazing Every time
One of my favorite places to eat! They have a full vegan menu with appetizers, rolls and noodle/rice bowls! Friendly and helpful staff.
Fresh tasty sushi and lots of other great Asian food to pick from. Very reasonable prices. Great quick lunch menu too.
Fav sushi place! The biggest gluten free menu. Sweet dreams roll wild Wild West

Excellent food good service would totally eat here again very enjoy able staff are very friendly and welcoming
High quality sushi at a reasonable price. They also make their own soy sauce which is a nice touch.
Decent prices and good service. Well made rolls. Ordered octopus salad and I'm sure it was good for those who like it but it wasn't for me! Made a good Long Island ice tea too. Good for groups, dates or solo dining. On George street. More...
Favourite place to dine in St. John's! Coming from living in Toronto my whole life, I've been wicked spoiled with sushi. Moving here, I was skeptical I'd find a good place. Sushi Nami KILLS IT! Love it. So, SO recommend! More...
Excellent sushi restaurant. My favorite place to go out to eat. Seems as though the quality is slowly going down, but it is still the best place in town in my opinion.
Excellent food and service!
Best Sushi in the city!
Pretry good place for some well done Japanese food. The atmosphere is pretty fancy, and the staff are quite hospitable. We had their yuja cha and that was delightful. Their ramen was divine and their sushi was fresh and smooth. Would definitely come here again. More...

My favorite sushi restaurant in st. John's. The food and service is consistently great.
Fantastic Service and Rolls. The Volcano Roll was very impressive! So impressive I had to order another after my meal. SUSHI COMA!!!
Excellent food and a great meal. Our waiter was extremely nice and was more than happy to assist my mother with learning how to better use chopsticks when my efforts failed. Definitely recommended!
Great service and a fantastic tasting and presented meal.
Order delivery from Sushi Nami while we stayed in St. John’s. We were both exhausted and didn’t want to go out to the restaurant. Delivery prices were moderate. We had about an hour wait from the time of order. We ordered 3 rolls. The driver did get lost and wandered around aimlessly on our street until I opened the door and he asked where our address was. Other than that we enjoyed the sushi but one roll fell apart when it was picked up. More...
Good food but wonderful service. The table was reserved with ornaments which was a nice tough. They have a lunch menu and made quickly for business people.
Kat in Japan
I'll give a 4 stars for service, but the food is about 3 stars as I loved their fusion of Japanese to sit Western tastes, but the really should arrive for keeping it Japanese as so many people, I included, have been there and people who has had real Japanese food live it more than the stuff you find at home. So if you've never been to Japan, this place is the best, but if you're like me I think the best options are the basic and their Ramen. Alcohol is a bit expensive so keep that in mind too. More...
Amazing food and amazing staff. Would recommend.
Great selection. Lunch bento boxes were quick and tasty
The staff were very nice and the food was delicious and the presentation of the food was very nice as well!
Sushi Nami is a quality sushi place
Come here often when in St John's and always love it.
Might be my new favourite sushi spot in town. Came on a recommendation to try the ramen, which was good, but the sushi was better. If you go during Tsu-Nami Happy Hour (twice a day roughly between lunch and supper and late evening to close), you get 20% off a limited (but still very substantial) menu. The sweet potato croquette is phenomenal (worth going just for this), and I'm a big fan of the Firecrackers Dream. The Dragon Roll was also delicious, and a really cool presentation which I wish I snapped a pic of. Their gyoza dumplings are pan-seared, which I prefer to deep frying and also very tasty. More...
Personally not a fan of sushi, which makes me really picky about sushi restaurants... Lots of options for us no-sushi folks, so I can enjoy time with my sushi loving friends!
Large sushi restaurant offering a great variety of sushi, sashimi and noodle bowls. Something for everyone. House roll is delicious and the mini kamikaze rolls are a must try.
Excellent food and excellent service. The volcano roll was awesome!

Got a bento box to go. Food is really great and service was impeccable. Prices are really reasonable and quality seems to be there
First time eating here and was not disappointed! Tasty and the service was excellent.
Good sushi, not expensive. Udon is not that good, Tempura is good too.
The food was outstanding but its unfortunate it took a very long time to get it. We went on a Sunday evening and it wasn't too busy. We got our seaweed salad, finished it, waited, got one roll, finished it, waited, got our scallops and this time before we finished half of it got our last roll. Typically these would come out near the same time. Disappointed but the server was polite and apologized. Recommend the ice cream and banana for dessert. More...
Quickly became my favourite sushi spot in town. I don't think there is a better roll than the Firecracker's Dream to be had anywhere. Tsunami Happy Hour makes for some excellent value. More...
I love this place so much! I eat here almost every week! It is so good. That's all I have to say. EAT HERE! Any of the fusion specials are great. I don't like the visa la viva though! The lunch special is both cheap and fenominal! They have big washrooms! But you can except a wait More...
An overall outstanding experience for our group of 5. The restaurant itself has a nice ambiance to it, a place you would go for a nice evening out. The service was excellent, quick to take all orders a frequent stops by the waitress to ensure all was good and by other staff filling the table with water. For rolls we ordered the house Royale roll, oceans 7, dynamite, spicy scallop, California and BC. We weren't a fan of the oceans 7 as I found it had a fairly strong taste and believe it was the fish it was topped with. All other rolls were excellent though and would absolutely order them again. Their signature roll has a lot going on with various fish and topping and is great and the spicy scallop had a little crunch in there which I really enjoyed and found a bit different from typical spicy scallop rolls. The prices are what you would expect from a fine sushi restaurant at an average of $7 for simple rolls and $13 for specialty. I absolutely recommend this as a nice restaurant go out for an evening. The best sushi in St. John’s. Fast and attentive service. Quality and Price is top notch.
Food never disappoints ... great selection and great service. I always enjoy dining here.
So good! Ate in restaurant once, ordered to-go as well, and my rolls were super fresh both times. Spicy tuna definitely wasn't spicy whatsoever, but it was so good I didn't care.Great miso soup, all sushi I've tried has been A+, and their sushi pizza is pretty interesting and delicious as well.Very nice new interior, accessible wheelchair lift should you need it, our waiter was kind, attentive and hospitable :) Will definitely be back. Always great food... took friends out to supper and as usual the food never disappoints
I've been here a few times and while it's not the best sushi in the city, it's a consistently good option.Lately I have been deviating from sushi and trying other Japanese dishes. A few days ago I decided to go with ramen with pork belly. There is an option to have it mild or spicy and I went with spicy. The noodles seemed fresh and the pork belly had a nice flavour but spicy it was not. I wasn't going to mention it because I have a high tolerance for spicy food and therefore am in the minority, but the server asked specifically if the spice level was to my satisfaction, so I was honest. She came back with a shaker full of the spices they use to make it spicy, along with a side of chili sauce. That was very thoughtful and appreciated. My girlfriend had the tuna avacodo salad to start and some various sushi rolls. The salad was excellent but unfortunately the fish in the rolls did not taste fresh.Still, we have had more positive experiences than negative here and the restaurant itself is always clean and inviting. By far the best sushi I’ve ever eaten in Newfoundland. Can’t wait to go back.
Excellent quality and size of sashimi slices. This is the go-to sushi place in Halifax. Nice new location
I don't eat sushi ..but i tried it for the first time at sushinami....experience was great...wonderful staff and service.
This is a happening spot seems like! The place was packed when we went. Good food and service. Sushi is really high quality. The rolls are good though I prefer ngiri and that did not disappoint. Prices may be considered a tad high by some and I may agree. But the atmosphere and quality make it worth it. More...
I had an amazing time here, we went inside and we're very impressed by the interior. Our server was very friendly and kind and took us to our table. I got the tempura shrimp and the dynamite roll and it was so delicious! The wait wasn't that long and it was definitely worth it. I wish it was an all you can eat place so that I could try out all the rolls but I'm glad I got what I got. It wasn't too expensive and I definitely enjoyed it here. Will come again! More...
Amazing ramen and sushi!
Great staff, great food, and really good lunch deals!
Great place to go. Friendly, good quality food and great delivery service.
Best sushi in town. Those who disagree tend to work at other sushi locations.
Great sushi! Location is not ideal for parking, if that's a concern for you.
Try the ramen!
Amazing, delicious, fresh food made right before you. Awesome staff, and exquisite food and service.
Always good quality from what I have experienced.
A Very nice menu with a little something for everyone. Great rolls, of course, but they also offer up ramen, tariyaki, sushi pizza, and plenty of other great options.
Amazing quality food, fast and friendly service.
Very tasty beef appetizer and good and well presented sushi...
One of the best sushi places in St.johns
Good house rolls. They don't really have a kids menu but the waitress took care of us.Good size bites. Tasted fresh. Would go back for sure
1st Visit. Won't be our last. Great food.
Nice selection of Japanese food other than sushi! They also have ramen bowls, bento boxes and curry plates. The ramen bowls are my go-to comfort food.
Best sushi in st John's!
The Best quality sushi around at a good price. I've been here 30+ times and I only ever had one bad time the rest was flawless and delicious.
Excellent vegan and vegetarian options, wait staff was friendly and knowledgeable. Drink specials were great and presentation was absolutely stunning. We will be back!
We had a sushi craving and we were hungry at an odd time because most restaurants were closed before the dinner rush. We tried Sushi Nami Royale because they were one of the few restaurants that was open and tried some rolls and everything tasted pretty decent. It did the trick to satisfy the craving. There was an extensive menu so there's something there for everyone. More...

Awesome Ramen! Polite staff and comfy atmosphere! I recommend!
Best sushi place in St. John's! Quick service and the staff are very informative about the food.
Delicious, consistent good. Good staff. Music could be better. All in all, a good, regular lunch stop. Ramen is a particularly good meal.

Delicious food. Good service. Quiet atmosphere.
Service was fast and friendly. I highly recommend the mango salad. The best sushi I tried was the Fuji Mountain roll. The people I ate with were disappointed with the mango ice cream for dessert.
Definitely my best sushi experience in St. John's. The "Dynamite" tastes awesome. The "Rock and Roll" roll is super delicious. The "California" is... well... "California". Oh and by the way, the service is really quick and polite. I also loved the cozy environment and the lighting was great enough for a lovely dinner experience. I am surely a big fan of Sushi Nami from now on! More...

Great food. Very clear allergy information.
Sushi was delicious, service was a bit slow but we weren't in a hurry so it wasn't a huge deal. The menu was amazing, I wanted one of everything..
We went during lunch. The person who served us was very kind and there was hardly any wait for our food (one of the plates was the sushi lunch as attached). Everything was delicious and I'll definitely return in the future! More...
Good ramen and sushi. Great lunch spot with quick sevice
Overall a solid place to go for a meal. Service is quick and the food is good. Don't expect the quality you would get in Toronto or Vancouver as you won't find it, But if your looking for fresh, good sized portions with a casual atmosphere this is the place to go.
Had great time here with friends . Friendly staff
Rather disappointed. The ramen isn't as good as it once was.Sushi was great though
Fantastic Sushi and great service. It was a great lunch experience. In and out in 50 mins. California, Boston, and Green Dragon rolls were all DIVINE!
I'm never disappointed by Sushi Nami Royale. The food was fantastic and fresh. I had stopped in for a quick bite as my wife was doing a bit of shopping, and was in and out in 20 minutes. The service was great as well....my experience was great as always! More...
I've had a craving for sushi for over two months now since moving back to Halifax and I finally got some the other day from Sushi Nami! Honestly, we chose this place for the convenience of it being so close to our apartment and not because it was recommended. I got the avocado and tuna (YUCK!)... Pretty average portions and price, would go back for the convenience but would like to try some other places first! More...
The quality of the sushi here is very good for what I've found in Halifax! Also the site itself is very attractive with its dominate white colour scheme. I had the Sake Maki and the Dynamite Maki . More...
Sushi Nami is one of the better known sushi places in town and they do everything quite well. Medium sized space, fairly big menu, etc. But did you know, they also serve the BEST RAMEN in Halifax? That is not something to take lightly. A smooth, creamy broth, and everything fresh. The sushi is all good and average, along with all the apps. But if you're on the hunt for ramen this is where you should go. (Note the vegetarian option is still served in a pork based broth, still delicious but definitely not vegan) More...
Excellent sushiI had 2 (or 3) or something called a Bloody Nami (a bloody mary with wasabi and sake instead of horseradish and vodka) as well as two rolls. It was excellent.
Sushi Nami Royale... What a gem! The sushi was beautiful, fresh, quick. The red snapper sashimi I could likely eat many, many portions of. In favour of trying others however, I limited to one order. I will be dreaming about the snapper for a while though. Sushi was expertly rolled and equally delicious. Only detraction was the tuna sashimi. Was not as fresh as the snapper and would recommend not ordering it in sashimi form. There was no miso soup to start, where typically there has been in other sushi places. But for the caliber of the sushi, I can forgive the lack of a broth with some bits of tofu and seaweed. It's not going to rock the major sushi houses here and abroad, but it's nothing to sneeze at either. Can't wait to go back! More...
Sushi was very fresh and tasted good, especially the Atlantic salmon. The service was also great, and the server gave us a ton of recommendations for things to do in town since we were some stupid American tourists.
In town on business and came here with a colleague for dinner.Ordered spicy tuna maki roll, vegetable dragon roll, sunomono salad, and gyoza. Service is friendly and the restaurant is decorated with a modern flair and an open concept. The sushi was good. The spicy tuna roll was not done the same way most other places do it. It was not spicy enough for my liking but they gave us a side of the spicy mayo so that helped. The veggie sushi was quite good with a nice combination of veggies and textures. The gyoza was a thin delicate pastry wrapped around a light pork filling. Perfect!!Definitely worth a repeat visit the next time I'm in town! More...
The service is always amazing, the prices are great, and the food is always super tasty! One of my favourite places to go.
The sushi was by far one of the best if not THE BEST I've ever had and I'm picky!!!! Service was great! Fresh and clean. Nice spot too!

Best sushi restaurant in St. John's by far !!!!!!
Decent sushi place but not the best in town. Drinks are definitely good.
Great food! Finally a place to get real Ramen in NL!
My favorite restaurant. Fantastic food, atmosphere, and staff.
The sashimi was excellent while the nigiri, although very tasty, was a little rice heavy and overwhelmed the fish at times. The house roll was very distinct compared to rolls I have tried in the past, however I did very much enjoy the unique flavour. The service was fast and polite and did a great job of taking our orders and providing our food quickly. More...
Best sushi ive ever had. They have some seriously unique rolls!
I was in town for an overnight between flights. Went out for a stroll and walked by many, many bars and pubs with lots of tasty (albeit fried) items on the menu. Honestly I just wanted some sushi and a good beer and didn't feel like "dining in". Popped in to Nami Royale and asked to get something for takeout. The hostess was super friendly, took my order promptly and had the courtesy to ask the sushi chefs how long it would take. We were told 15-20 so I ordered a sapp on tap and flipped through a local magazine. Got my order promptly and swung by a local liquor store for some extra appetizers. Overall a very satisfying meal - I would recommend it! More...

Excellent food and service. More...
Sushiiiiiii! The moment I use hear that, first thing that strike me was what can a vegetarian eater get there until I tried here. If you think the same than please give this place a try! Here one can I get too many vegetarian options to choose from. I went here with couple friends and my husband. This restaurant was so clean and offered hygienic cutlery. No kind of strong smell that a vegetarian couldn't take it. The staff was really helpful in giving information about the ingredients used as this was my first time to try sushi. I ordered the platter where I got to try avocado, sweet potato and mix vegetables. Best of all was sweet potato (crunchy). The food dint taste bland at all. We love spicy food and the wasabi mixed with soya, did taste delicious. We ordered vegetarian dumplings and also got the miso soup and house salad complimentary. We paid $25 for 18pcs maki and 6 pcs dumplings. Not a bad deal eh!? I would definitely go there again to try new flavours. More...
I really enjoy going to a Sushi place that isn't all you can eat. I would never eat enough Sushi to make all you can eat worth it and I find that there are more interesting roles and more selection. Sushi Name Royale has a gluten free menu and has gluten free soya sauce. They have a lot of different options and the servers are more than happy to help and speak to the chef if they aren't sure. I have been at least 4-5 times and have never had a bad experience. Check this place out if you are in the mood for quality and delicious sushi! More...
For a small restaurant with a great atmosphere, my friend was impressed that they played Japanese music. Having eaten there before I didn't know if I should order my usual or something I never tried before so I went for something new and ordered The Doburi Mono - Kats Su Don and this the only time I was in a Japanese Restaurant and wished I had a fork because I loved it!
Absolutely one of my favourite spots to bring the family for Tapanyaki. However the service is incredibly slow and the portion sizes vary greatly. They need to fix this, but still a favourite as the food is delicious. More...

Had my first meal in Halifax here. Fish was fresh, server was super nice (I recall that her name was Crystal or Christine or so). Great food for an affordable price. It was sad that they couldn't serve ramen today because broth wasn't ready. However, sashimi was exceptional. Okonomiyaki (Japanese styled pancake) was bit too saucy and salty, but overall it was swell. More...
We had a party of about 10. They were uncrowded and very accommodating. This place just opened and has yet to be discovered. Being from California, I am very familiar with sushi restaurants. The decor is modern and everything is new and clean. Staff was very polite and attentive. We ordered nigiri sushi which was fresh. Sushi rolls were moderately priced and tasty. I liked the spicy edamame. They did not have Asahi beer, only Sapporo. They were also out of the milky saki that is served cold, but had a few other choices. I'd give this place about 4.5 stars. They are part of a chain based out of Halifax, and clearly know what they are doing. More...
I am so picky with my Japanese food since living there so long, and the Ramen I had surpassed my expectations. I was told the noodles came from Japan, which is was wondering how they got that authentic taste down do well. And what made me more happy and nostalgic is they welcome you in Japanese! I missed it! Going back again before I leave NL! More...
We ate lunch here during our stay in Halifax on vacation from Ontario. We have had sushi in almost every major city we've visited from coast to coast and this takes the top prize. Freshness, flavour and presentation unlike any other sushi restaurant we've eaten at! The sumo mini salad with seafood was incredible and the bento box is amazing for the price. Friendly service as well. More...
My boyfriend and I adore this place. We love Japanese cuisine and coming here was kind of eye opening to what it should taste like and they have lots of vegetarian options (the veggie bento is amazing, so much food). The prices are a bit much but we consider it worth it for the quality. The service is touch and go though, sometimes your server/waitress will be right on top of things and you'll be in and out in a reasonable time. Other times you can wait 15 minutes to have your order taken. Though I do have to commend them on turn around times for tables. We normally go during peak hours and we've never waited more than 10 mintues for a table. More...
Best dumplings in the city by a lot. The tataki is also better than I've had anywhere else in the city. I would stay away from the sashimi if you don't like overly large pieces and/or extremely fatty salmon though. Sometimes the fish seems a little less fresh than optimal, but in general if you get maki it is good enough. The spicy Miso is awesome (they serve it with little tempura crumbles in it) and the service is always very good, too. More...
Favourite place in the city to get sushi! Always tastes great and the staff there are wonderful. Usually there once a week and haven't had a bad experience yet!
The undisputed king of sushi in Dartmouth! There's really not much more to say...the staff, food, and atmosphere at the Dartmouth Crossing Sushi Nami Royale is as good as it gets. Every time I have been there it's been delicious and a wonderful time. There are other good sushi places...Genji springs to mind, and the new place, Mizu. But no one is taking the crown from Sushi Nami Royale anytime soon. The only possible downside is that the prices here are a bit on the premium side....but you are paying the extra cash for extra good food.By the way, please order the sweet potato rolls...best in Nova Scotia, and I mean that! I enjoyed eating here although not having eaten at a lot of sushi places it would have been nice to see some pictures of the items on the menu. The service was great and food came out fast! More...
That service though! I was blown out of the water by the amazing level of service I received here on Tuesday evening. I called to order the Curry for takeout and learned that it was A) only available at lunch and B) not a takeout menu item. The waitress went out of her way (without any insisting on my part) to convince the chef to make it for me, which involved prepping and cooking the entire dish from scratch since it was outside of lunch hours. I was extremely grateful as I had a severe craving for this dish for several days, over which I had been borderline obsessive. If you haven't eaten Japanese style curry WARNING: ITS ADDICTIVE & DELICIOUS. While waiting for my order in the restaurant, the same waitress unexpectedly served me glass of water while I waited and checked in on me regularly as if I were dining in. The chef served my takout directly to me with a big smile. I left happy and very eager to get into what was the best bowl of Katsu Curry I've had in a very long time. More...

My favourite spot for sushi in Halifax. The portions are generous and the quality is unmatched.
First time here for lunch and I'm definitely a fan of the specials. Also very fresh fish and even the ginger is still beige colour. Kinda awkward when your served it pink in a restaurant. More...
Having newly discovered my love for rice and fish, my mother and I went here for a dinner date. If I remember correctly, Sushi Nami was one of the first places to open in this section of DC. I've mentioned in previous reviews, that i'm disappointed in the food options in dartmouth crossings: most of the places are chains and or the locally owned ones aren't that great. However, Sushi Nami is a breath of fresh air amongst the greasy french fries and burger joints that surround it. Don't get me wrong, I love a good burger, but sometimes a gal just wants to chill and what better place to go with her mama bear then a cozy sushi place? It's really nice a roomy, with comfy chairs and... this looks so cool... a section for your party or group. No, I don't mean a booth. I meant there's actually a section that can cater, at your table, in front of your eyes, the food you want. So cool.I thought this place was going to be expensive, but we were lucky enough to grab a lunch special which was.. I think $10 each. What did it include? Miso soup, salad, choice of chicken or beef and 6 sushi rolls. I wasn't a fan of the miso soup but everything else was SOOooooOOoOoOooo YUMMY. On a side note, I did take a quick glance to the price of just buying sushi and, in my opinion, the prices are fair. Slightly more expensive then your regular sushi but Sushi Nami is a "higher end" place then Bento in Sobey's. The service? All I can say is; thumbs up! She was so nice and courteous and very informative. She would respectively inform us about how to properly drink the soup and was always around filling up our glasses with water. More...
My boss wanted to take me out for a thank-you, holiday, catch-up type of dinner. He told me to pick the restaurant. Well, I couldn't pick, he suggested sushi and we ended up here! I would have totally suggested sushi but it's one of those things that people either love or don't.Honestly, I wouldn't have suggested Sushi Nami, but I'm glad he did because it makes a nice change from my usual joint. The restaurant is classy/casual with a very cool atmosphere; it's clean and opening. Service is always fairy fast. We both ordered maki dinners; he got the deluxe and I got the assorted. They both came with a house salad (which is very good) and miso soup to start. Mine had 14 pieces; 3 California, 3 tuna, 3 spicy salmon and 5 chicken teriyaki rolls. I liked it all, but the chicken teriyaki rolls I found rather dry and lacking in flavour.I've had the kamikaze roll other times I've been there and it's one of my all time favourites. A deep fried roll with salmon, tuna, jalapeños, avocado and cream cheese - yum! More...
Just an addendum to the awesomeness of Sushi Nami. We recently descended on them with a group of 14 for a birthday party. When I realized I had miscounted and had only reserved for 12, they quickly scooped up another table and added it to ours, even though it was a Friday night and the place was busy. The service was amazing. I mean, it was pretty much the same pace as when I'm there with two people. Everyone's food came out within minutes of each other. Everyone had drink orders promptly refilled. Everyone had big smiles on their faces as they nommed sushi - especially the birthday boy! Add to that, they said 'no problem!' when we wanted the birthday boy's cheque split between 13 of us. They also brought him out a free dessert (which we passed around the entire table, since we had dessert waiting for us at our next destination.) I heartily recommend the tempura banana with sesame ice cream. Great job, Sushi Nami! And thanks for a night to remember! More...
Visited with some friends at the Dresden location a couple of months ago. It was a fairly quiet day when we arrived, giving a nice relaxing sit-down (for the most part).I ordered the Tako Karaage to start, along with the house roll. For being a nicer sit-down restaurant it naturally took some time for the meal to arrive; but when it did, was it ever good!Prepared just right, flavorful and well presented, the menu surpassed my expectations by a longshot.Be warned, it's not the kind of place I'd take kids, if only because of the slightly more formal (not casual, not full formal) atmosphere. Best Sushi in town! I've tried them all and this spot gets a 10 for atmosphere, food, service, and selection. If you're going to have Maki this is the place!
After first trying out the Dartmouth Crossing location, I was hesitant to give the Dresden Row location a go. Fears averted. I don't know if it's because I was more familiar with the menu or because the food was just better but it was a far better experience. Since the atmosphere and service were equivalent, I'm going to go out on a limb and confirm it was, in fact, the food.About that service... I came in using a crutch (knee injury - better now). The hostess offered me a table right at the front to minimize how far I'd have to go and presumably to spare me walking up the few stairs to the main seating area. It was table for four and it was just before the lunch rush. That alone is impressive to me.The rolls were really good. I always try and branch out and try something new and I was not disappointed. Other than the avocado roll which was just a bit too mushy for my liking (I have a limited appreciation for avocado). Still, overall, 4/5, easily. More...
I dream of "firecracker dream"! It is an inside out roll with avocado, cucumber, tempura bits and a little spicy mayo. Their grilled vegetable maki, dynamite maki, the vegetable dragon roll, Philadelphia roll, the sweet potato.....*I drool as I type this........Whenever we have a deep, dark craving for sushi, this is the place we visit. Their rolls have a great balance of softness and crunch and each plateful arrives with artistic precision. When you arrive you are cheerfully greeted by the Itamae's and seated quickly. For those people who enjoy a late night snack, I recommend Tsunami hour(starts at 9:30 on weekdays), you can get many apps and regular maki's for a great price .The staff are always polite and ready to help, I have not had bad service ever! Great Job guys :-)Now to balance the yin and yang. I shall be brutally honest about the wait time for the food. Some nights the food gets a seat on the concord to our table but there are times where we have waited a while for our food to arrive. The music playing in the background can also be up for review, maybe they should do a check of what other popular spots in town are playing to keep the ambiance up. These maybe the only little problem, but nevertheless, we will stay loyal to you SNR!I highly recommend sushi nami royale on dresden rowe and happy to say, guilty of dining there last night :-D More...
I think this will be one of my new fav. places for sushi. If you go between 3-5 or 9:30-close they have a 'Tsu-Nami' special where the prices are cheaper. It actually makes a lot of the food cheaper than most other sushi places! Not to mention, the rolls are a bit larger than most places so you definitely get your money worth! Usually I can eat 3 (sometimes 4) rolls before I'm full but at this place I only need 2. It's worth mentioning that YOU should be aware of the time for Tsu-Nami hour because sometimes the waitresses forget. Also, if you arrive even 5 mins early you're not likely to get the Tsu-Nami menu. After I was seated, a couple came in (it was about 3:02 or something. I remember checking my phone.) and they had to ask for the Tsu-Nami menu. Service is pretty good. Although last time I went the waitress took forever to come check on us. This normally isn't a bad thing but I was waiting to ask about a part of my order she forgot. She eventually got around to it and apologized saying they were busy...but there was only about 2-3 other tables at the time. Maybe it's just because I'm a waitress too, but I found this odd since I wouldn't consider that busy. Anyway, she was really nice about it and even apologized again when we left. The workers at the sushi bar often say hello when you arrive as well which I found was a nice touch. The place is very spacious and clean. Food is presented nicely. Service is good. Prices are great. What more can you ask for? I'll definitely be coming back here often. I'll even be bringing my friends! More...
The food here is delicious and the atmosphere is a claustrophobe's dream; the restaurant is light and open with big windows.I don't eat seafood so I can't vouch for that, but the vegetable rolls (sweet potato maki and cucumber maki) I had were super tasty and filling. It's worth noting that the rolls are a bit bigger than some other places, so be careful if you're planning on going all out. The tonkatsu is tender and flavourful and the sauce is to die for. The service was quick and friendly. The best time to go is between 3 and 5 pm or after 9:30; at that time, you can order off the Tsu-Nami menu which has a number of menu items available for a discounted price. You may have to ask for the discount menu; our waitress thought it started at 3:30 until she checked the menu. There was something we found to be a bit odd; the waitress didn't clear the tables. A party left not long after we arrived and by the time we left, their glasses were still on the table. There weren't people waiting for tables so it wasn't a huge deal, but it was definitely strange.Overall, I really enjoyed it and I definitely plan on coming back. More...
I've come here for lunch a few times, and dinner as well, and it never disappoints! Service is quick and I love the variation of traditional and unconventional sushi rolls. I'm a roll lover, not a full out sushi eater so I guess I can't vouch for the more hardcore items, but whatever I choose is freakin delicious!I don't go for the spicy rolls but I've heard they're quite good :) my favorite is definitely the green dragon, a tempura shrimp with crab smothered in yummy avocado. I'll keep going here for lunch, it's easy to get in and out in a half hour! Also the gyoza are super yum as are the fried tuna rolls (i forget what they're called but they're LOVELY!) More...
In the past three weeks, I have been to Sushi Nami probably 3-4 times. It's my favourite sushi place so far... and I really love their Firecrackers dream. I don't eat seafood so I can't comment on their fish sushi but I can tell you it beats the rest when comparing other vegetable sushi around the city. They have three locations in the HRM - Dresden Row (downtown), Lacewood (Clayton Park) and Dartmouth Crossing, which is very convenient. I have nothing but praise for the Clayton Park location - the service is terrific, the food is divine and the atmosphere is spot on. The Dresden Row location follows suit but the service is a little more slack that what I would like. My co-worker and I went for lunch last week and an expected 45 minute lunch turned into an hour and a half. This is fine for a dinner with no plans afterwards, but at a downtown location with lots of businesses around and at lunch time, you think they would be a little more accommodating... and just so you're aware, there wasn't a huge crowd, perhaps only 5 tables?I finally made my way over to the Dartmouth Crossing location last night before catching Titanic in 3D - yup, it's still 3 1/2 hours ... sigh - and where the service was slack at the Dresden Row location, here it was great. The food came out in a timely manner and of good quality - as always - but man was the place cold. It wasn't only myself that felt the draft, it was our whole table. Not exactly sure where the frigid air was circulating from, but it was cold... At least now I know to wear a parka and mitts for my next visit. All in all, Sushi Nami is my favourite sushi restaurant in the HRM. I always go and look for new places but I always come back, just like the cat from the Harry S Miller song. More...
I came here one day recently after my shift at work was over to get some sushi. I have only had sushi once before so I was looking forward to it. I got there shortly after 3pm so I ordered from the discount menu. I ordered the pork dumplings, california roll without roe, and shrimp tempura roll. The dumplings were very good and I enjoyed them a lot. The california roll (6pc) was also very good and fresh tasting, better than the first time I had sushi somewhere else. The shrimp tempura roll (5pc) looked appealing but it was quite big and impossible to eat in one bite. Having to eat a piece of sushi in two bites is messy, and I am still not an expert with chopsticks so I probably looked like a fool trying to eat my sushi. I eventually gave up and took the remaining 4 pieces home. The taste of the shrimp tempura roll was very good though, and the service was excellent as well. The bill came to about 17$ before tip which is good for sushi and an appetizer. Overall, I will definitely go back to sushi nami and I look forward to trying some more sushi options. More...
I love this sushi. My favourite roll by far is the fuji mountain roll. You will get messy while eating it. It comes buried in spicy sauce and panko with lots of flavour. I always try and order something different but get caught up in wanting my usual.I think they are fairly priced, offer a good selection for seafood and non seafood lovers, and the staff has always been helpful and friendly. The miso soup is the best in the city in my opinion and the agedashi tofu is to die for. It's a great place for lunch while out shopping or a great dinner spot before catching a movie. The only catch at this place is the drinks are really over priced. $2.49 for a glass of pop and almost $9 for a Sapporo will definitely set you back. Stick to water if you are watching your coin. A sushi newbie... Yep, that is what I am. And really I never eat the ones with raw fish, it's more the vegetarian items that I enjoy. That being said, I visited the Dartmouth Crossing location of Sushi Nami Royale just prior to Christmas.I went with 2 friends, one of which is a sushi lover and quite well versed on the typical offerings. So while we perused the menu he ordered 2 helpings of Edamame. Where the heck has that been all my life? Holy smokes. Deliciously salty little green pods of goodness! I ate so many it was probably a crime.... Great starter!! My main was the Vegetable Dragon Roll and it did not disappoint! Service was friendly and quick (our server is a pastry chef with the coolest tattoos EVER! All pastries!). Restaurant was clean and prices in my opinion were very reasonable.I will visit again - and soon!!! More...
Love this place! Love the location as well!My husband and I frequent this place often, usually only for their maki. I find this place makes their rolls on the large side, but they have a lot of unique options for their rolls, and we haven't been disappointed yet! My favorites are definitely the rainbow roll, the green dragon roll, and the mini kamikaze roll when I'm feeling particularly ~spicy~ ;) the caterpillar roll was really surprising the first time we tried it, as it is rolled with a piece of cucumber instead of the traditional rice and seaweed, delicious!I'll keep going back for sure, they also have great lunch specials and do take out, which is great for the people who work in Burnside! This was my first sushi experience in Halifax. Through mega reservation (as I'm not a huge fishy person) we wandered up to the Dresdon Row location and got our chopstick on. I'm not even remotely educated on sushi, even a year later. I'm not even going to pretend I know what I'm talking about. Maki? No clue. Unagi? Tobbiko? Double no clue. But I can say that I thoroughly enjoy eating it. I haven't progressed into the super fishy stage yet. I have nibbled on a few of my boyfriend's rolls and found them quite tasty. It really isn't an authentic sushi experience such as Hamachi, Dharma, or Fujiyama but it is a delish one. It's perfect for someone like me who doesn't want to dive in head first. It is a pretty large spot with seating by the chefs as well as more seating up top. It's nice and bright and always busy. We always start with the edamame. Of which I've been hooked on ever since. Cool thing about it is that it's super high in protein and low in fat. My classic go-to selections are always the firecracker and vegetable dragon. The firecracker is as the name implies, the bomb. Avocado and spicy mayo rock this roll. My boyfriend always gets what he calls the "Big Mac" of sushi: The Kamikaze. Salmon, tuna, snapper, avocado, cream cheese, and jalapeno make for a fabulous combo of flavors. I find it a wee bit cheaper than Hamachi and somehow seem to deem this our regular sushi place. I just love the firecracker to the moon and back. If you're looking to go on an evening close to the weekend, make sure you allow plenty of time. We often find ourselves sitting around waiting for a table. Never a bad thing! More...
We have recently fell in love with this location. The sushi is fantastic and the ambience calming and cool.It seems to be getting busier every time we visit and we can understand why! The sushi here is amazing! The fusion rolls are where it's at! Make sure you try a house roll with which ever our preference of fish. We usually get the red snapper. VERY yummy and full of flavour! They have to have the best dragon rolls I've had in a long time!We are making plans to return often and hopefully experience their tapenyaki (sp?) grill for an upcoming birthday!Make sure you try this out next time you're out in Dartmouth Crossing. I should start off by saying that I'm not a huge sushi fan, however, I really enjoyed my experience at Sushi Nami. They had something for everyone and if you order one of their lunch boxes, you get to chose your options and end up with a little sample of everything. The food was really fresh and had such wonderful flavors! The service was also really great, and the restaurant is simple yet elegant on the inside. Overall it was a really great experience and I will definitely be coming back here again soon. More...
One of my favourite sushi places. I love the seaweed salad and the miso eggplant. Sashimi slices are fresh and thick. I also love the dragon rolls that have tempura inside. I always get takeout, but the dine in is a nice place too! More...
Sushi Nami Royale isn't the best sushi in town, but it's definitely not the worst either! I've eaten here countless times and have never been disappointed. The service is often kind of spotty and slow, but the food is usually pretty good and fresh. And the spicy tuna roll? Oh Em Gee. More...
Great sushi, including lots of fun fusion options, and a teppanyaki grill which makes for a cool dining experience. It's a nice option when you're shopping in Dartmouth Crossing. The service is fast and friendly. Good for takeout as well! More...
If I'm ever caught in a tsunami, please let it be a tsunami of sushi.Sushi Nami Royale provides one of the more restaurant-like environments in Halifax for enjoying sushi. While still informal, it's nowhere near as casual as some of Halifax's other sushi joints. The atmosphere is decidedly more sophisticated than some of the wooden lunch counter models around town. The restaurant is also open later than most sushi places making it a perfect place to satisfy late evening sushi cravings.Sushi Nami has a spectacular sushi menu that includes a wide variety of nigiri, sashimi and exotic roll choices. My favourite is the Tropicana roll, a combination of deep fried coconut, mango, shrimp tempura, spicy chopped scallop with green onion, crab, and cucumber. All dishes are impeccably plated, earning extra points for presentation.Service can sometimes be a bit spotty. Last time I ate there, I had a new waitress who was aggressively helpful, trying to take our orders while we were waiting for a friend. The same waitress was overly eager to clear our table, but for the most part, the servers are friendly.Warranting a special mention is tsunami hour. Between 3-5 pm and 9:30 to 11:30pm from Monday to Saturday, you can get 20% off the menu prices of the Tsu-nami menu. This menu has a variety of appetizers, soup and salads, maki rolls, and stir-fry teriyaki bowls. It's happy hour for sushi lovers. If you are out with non-sushi eaters, fear not. The menu has a large number of alternatives including tempura and noodle dishes. Sushi lover or not, you're sure to enjoy a good meal here. More...
I'm pretty fanatic over my sushi, but I typically stick to the joints I know. One bad sushi experience just spells disaster (i.e. the kind you find in Sobey's). I ended up here because my friend scored a sweet coupon from Team Buy which let us sample a bunch of different sushi for free. We started with misou soup and vegetable tempura before moving on to the motherload of all sushi binges: spicy salmon, spicy scallop, california roll, BC BBQ salmon roll, and a slew of others. The only thing I didn't particularly enjoy was the BBQ salmon. Everything was presented neatly, and the staff was friendly and patient when dealing with our super fancy coupon printed with faded ink from a computer. They do take-out as well! More...
great fusion sushi. Rock'n'Roll maki and spicy salmon are tops, and the portions are quite a bit bigger than normal maki (order accordingly).Atmosphere is just okay (it's a mall) and the service isn't so hot, but it's a reliable spot and convenient for take out. More...
Bleeping delicious vegetarian maki rolls. Order the vegetarian combo (cucumber, sweet potato and another type of veggie maki), 15 sushi rolls for a decent price. Free miso soup & salad (not sure of the vegan-friendliness of the soup, though).Great service, atmosphere & food. What more is there? More...
Joshua is right to qualify his four stars with the fact that we're talking Halifax sushi here, and I will do the same. It's not four stars for a lot of places, but the low bar set in Hali gives these guys the edge. I do the veggie sushi thing, fair warning, and they have come through with tasty dishes. It may sound simple but the main things I care about in a roll are a good rice texture and non-soggy seaweed. Success on both counts. I need to do a bit more sampling, but I have definitely been pleased so far. More...
What a great sushi restaurant. I was there a couple of years ago and really wasn't that impressed. I went a couple of weeks back with a friend who raved about the place and he ordered some different sushi plates that he thought I would enjoy. My opinion has now changed. I love it. Tonight I returned with a few friends and everyone really enjoyed the sushi. The fusion special rolls are amazing. My 2 favorites are the Tropicana roll and and dragon roll with eel. The atmosphere is great and the Manager there Bobbi provides great service. We didn't have a reservation but she was able to seat us no problem. A great place for sushi and I highly recommend it. Insert Cheesy Line Here: Sushi Nami? More like Sushi Yummy!I suppose you can tell I love the Sushi here. But if you are from outside of Halifax or even Nova Scotia, it is important for you to know a few things about my experience with Sushi and the general quality of Sushi in Halifax as well. First off, I adore Sushi! And I am a picky Sushi customer. I have eaten at plenty of great Sushi restaurants in Vancouver, California and a few other spots as well. So that's my experience with Sushi. Here's my challenging dilemma with Sushi in Halifax. In general it is not that good. The portion sizes are small, the prices are high and the service is fair. Can I expect anything less from a food that is not native to Canadian cuisine? Well the short answer is yes. If Vancouver can make it cheaper with a higher quality then so can Halifax. Sushi Nami would rank as a three star in any major city that has a normal amount of competition. However there are only a handful of Sushi restaurants in Halifax and it almost feels like a conspiracy that they all have high prices for small portions. Sushi Nami, however, is fair with their prices and have a wide selection of Sushi as well as other dishes for people to enjoy.Their location is quite central in downtown Halifax. Just off of Spring Garden Road, on Dresden Row, they are very easy to get to and seating wait time is normally only a minute or two.I always have a great time when I go there. The Waitress's are very nice, however, tend to be on the "rookie" side of things experience wise. So from time-to-time you will definitely hear a plate break into a million peaces. My advice; just yell Opa! I know that's Greek but why not?So the food is great when compared to the other Sushi restaurants in Halifax. However do not expect the Sushi to blow your mind if you are used to Vancouver, California or any other state's or provinces wide variety of Sushi restaurant's. But if you do need a Sushi fix, like I do from time-to-time, I highly recommend Sushi Nami. More...
