The team at SSC is beyond amazing! They are supportive and always ensuring I am challenging myself to reach the goals I have set for myself. If it wasnt for the staff at SSC I wouldnt have been able to complete the phenomenal work out I did today. I started off struggling with simple dowel movements to work on form and today I was able to do a bar bell back squat of 60kgs which is more then my weight!!!!! Attending SSC is worth the investment in yourself. Strongly recommend this place!!!! More...

Highly recommend! Best experience ever for both myself and my daughter. We did more than get strong we have learned valuable life lessons about how to move for health. The coaches are like our extended family and really care and support your overall health. Somehow these guys have created a unique environment, authentic and passionate about teaching and always there to make sure you’re doing things right. This is gym is the best mix of personal and independent training. Your programs are written carefully with your goals in mind and you are walked through every new program with a very thorough tutorial week. Once your tutorial is done, you aren't completely left on your own as the coaches are available for questions/demonstrations and will be quick to correct any (potentially) back breaking habits they see. All the of staff here are very encouraging and easy to talk to, which makes all the difference when trying to achieve your workout goals.

The workout floor is nicely laid out and open, and the shower/change rooms are well kept and clean.

In addition, they also have a Certified Pre- and Postnatal Coach on staff so moms-to-be can feel confident that their workout will make them feel great and be safe for their wee one.

Cannot say enough positive things about this place. It doesn't matter what your goals are, they will work with you. I'm an amateur athlete simply looking to improve my game play and I attribute a huge chunk of my success in doing so to my training at Strong Side. But there are all sorts of folks here- people who want to be healthier overall, feel stronger every day, improve their health in pregnancy, other athletes, they do it all! "If you're broken, we can fix you." It's more than a slogan it's true. I started SSC with bad knees after recovering form surgery and ongoing near crippling lower back pain. After only a few months I was crouching and kneeling for the first time in over 2 years. My lower back pain is almost gone and I haven't seen my chiropractor in weeks. This place is not your typical gym, and that is a pro in my humble opinion. From the moment I stepped in the door, I felt accepted, safe, and respected. TJ, Byron, Kam and all floor staff make you feel like you are part of a community. The knowledge, and professionalism is above reproach, and yet there is a real "down to earth" vibe. The staff help you manage injuries, without having to stop working out completely. They teach you how to release muscles in order to strengthen others and are always hands on and ready to assist. I love this place! It's the only gym that I have consistently stuck with. I go 3x a week, no excuses! Everyone, staff and gym members, are very friendly and encouraging. Staff are attentive, supportive and tuned into you.
I joined after breaking an ankle and fracturing my tibia and my program(s) have given me back my strength and stability. I'm engaging muscles I never knew existed!
Go in for your free assesment and just try not to join afterwards.

I can't tell you how happy I am I found this place! I've always been very intimidated by the gym, which is usually why I would find ways of not going. That is not the case with Strong Side, they take the time to customize your workouts so you can reach certain goals or heal specific parts of your body. They go through each exercise so you understand how to do it and why you're doing it. Dianna's been planning my workout from the very beginning and she always takes the time to make sure we're on track. This is the best gym experience I’ve ever had. Everyone is very professional, knowledgeable and approachable. The first week of every program is one on one. Even though you are technically on your own for the next 4 weeks, the coaches are always available and approachable. I have never felt intimidated to ask for help. They also keep an eye on your form during these weeks and give helpful suggestions. It is still like having a personal trainer without the cost of one. Other gyms sign you up then ignore you. Not here! What I also love about this place is the attitude of the other clients. Everyone is serious about what they are doing but friendly. They share the equipment and space. SSC is my home away from home. The staff here are amazing and knowledgeable. You will get some serious workout to work on your fitness. The coaches prepare your program and take you through them to make sure you know how to do the exercises properly and make modifications when necessary. Then you're on our way for 4-5 weeks till you get a new program. The coaches are always there for you if you can't remember how to do an exercise, have questions, or just want to chat about random things. I love this gym. I love the coaches. It's only been a few months but I am seeing results I have never seen before and could not have imagined. The trained staff are always welcoming, encouraging, motivating, and ensure form and technique are corrected to make certain you are maximizing your session, prevent injury etc. They really know their stuff! I was introduced to SSC 7 months ago. I had been in pain for 1 year because I developed arthritis in my neck that resulted in all of my muscles spasming down my back, arm and leg on my right side. I couldn't even raise my arm above my head. Within two months of working with them I was pain free. Now, I'm stronger than I have been in years, and I'm down 6 sizes from when I started. They constantly challenge me to do my best. I never could have gotten these results without the ongoing support at SSC. Been here almost two years now and still motivated every visit. On the higher end of the age spectrum (ugh), no member of the coaching team has ever discriminated against my potential or my commitment to getting stronger and better at my sport (rowing). What happy luck to have found this place. TJ and his team are wonderful and really care about your progress. I was having lots of chronic pain and the training I've done has done much to ameliorate that. My posture has also improved also. TJ is a gifted healer who really helps you understand the mechanics of your own pain and how to improve on it and make it go away. While I am not completely pain free, I am feeling so much better. Don't kid yourself though, because you're going to have to work hard. You'll get stronger and feel a whole lot better. And isn't that the point? More...

Strong Side is the first gym I keep going regularly (three times a week!) for the past 6 months! Scheduled new exercises every 4-5 weeks is fun. All trainers are great! I am a slow learner but they always help me when I need. I gave up going to regular gyms many times before because 1) I don't know what to do there, 2) I get bored, and 3) I am lazy. I came in here thinking I already knew a ton about strength training and fitness in general, but boy was I humbled by the sheer knowledge in this place. Other than being experts in their fields both as individuals and as a team, the staff here are genuinely friendly and supportive. The personalized programs and heartfelt 1:1 training and attention are invaluable. They really help you to feel, connect with, and use the correct muscles - instead of just "going through the movements". This maximizes my time and my workouts at the gym and I've seen more progress than ever before. StrongSide is NOT ANYTHING LIKE Crossfit, and in fact many people working out here are rehabilitating from injuries, dealing with chronic illnesses, or maybe starting a fitness journey for the very first time. This gym is not competitive, and is genuinely upbeat and fun. You will find people from all walks of life sharing this comic-book themed gym. Did I mention it's dog friendly?If you want to have effective and efficient workouts, done with proper form, tailored for you and your goals, with help from professionals and support from other gym goers, this is the place for you!Normally personally training would set me back $75 a session for someone worth their salt. Really cool gym just a few steps away from New West station. They're quite different than a commercial gym and it took me a while to understand their model. Basically you get 1:1 sessions for the first week of your five week program and after that there'll be a trainer on the floor supervising. You get a new program every month, and more 1:1 sessions and so forth. It totally depends on how you train and how much guidance or independence you want, but I like it a lot. If you're interested in Olympic lifting or powerlifting this place is great! More...
