Booked my wife's 30th here. My rating is based on the food, service, and experience with the manager. The meal was excellent and the service was great. The waitress joked with people and joined the conversation given the opportunity, really made it a nice evening. The manager also helped me out tremendously and accommodated my party for my wife beyond my imagination. He really went above and beyond for this special occasion and it was very appreciated. Just based on that alone I would recommend this place. It's very hard to find that level of customer service anywhere. Thanks! More...
2nd time at Fauna and it was as good as I remembered. All the dishes were fantastic and tasty cocktails. The soft shell crab is by far my favourite. The chili jam that comes with it is so good. I asked if I could buy it! Service is good and the kitchen got food out at a good pace. Definitely one of the better restaurants in Ottawa and a place to go for special occasions. More...
Went there for dinner with my mom on a Monday. Wasn't very busy, food took a bit of time but service was great. Prices were definitely above average at approximately $35 per main and $20 for appetizers.Food was delicious, portions were decent, although my pork came out a bit more rare than for my liking.Would recommend to try out but wouldn't be my go to joint when in town. Certainly a interesting food experience. Atmosphere 8/10 Service 8/10, Food presentation 10/10. Cleanliness 9/10.
Amazing food, great service, nice atmosphere.
The ambiance, fabulous service and superb food makes this place a must if you are a foodie. Locally sourced food, very selective menu and excellent bar service. We had a dreamy eggplant carpaccio and a roasted duck that had a delicious cherry sauce. More...
A modern urban eatery on Bank. Food is elevated and reimagined. I had the Halibut which was prepared and presented very nicely. My starter was the lobster bisque and although I wanted to love it... I wanted to compare it to the lobster bisque I had in Key West ( my standard) but sadly it came far short of that. A closer comparison would be to that of a butternut squash soup with a fried seafood/lobster ball. Proof that sometimes reimagining things can go too far. Tasty soup... But not Lobster bisque. Still, a nice spot for dinner. It's not cheap so unless you have high end tastes and live that extravagant lifestyle it's not an everyday spot. But it is a place on the Ottawa map you should try. Food is awesome just a little bit pricey
Great service and very tasty food and very good wine list. I tried the small sharing plates and highly recommend the veal carpaccio, eggplant carpaccio amd soft shell crab
I went to dinner with my brother an partner. The food and wine options were good and we had a nice meal. The reason for four stars is that there was a large party in the restaurant that night and the service was a bit inattentive - honestly we did not feel that welcome. Based on our experience, it seems that the restaurant was not staffed appropriately.I will give this place a second chance as the food was quite good and we may have just had an unusual experience. Great mean, many tasty flavours and the severs were very knowledgeable and honest
Good meal. Staff was great, decor perfect. I appreciated the non alcoholic recommendations. A bit underwhelming and pricey compared to the amazing Bar Laurel and the incredible wow factor of Stofa
Incredible cocktails. The food was so unique and well prepared. Service was top notch as well
Fauna made a list of the top restaurants in Canada so we wanted to check it out on our anniversary.First of all, you should definitely have a cocktail since they take a lot of pride in mixing up some pretty nice libations. Mine called for citrus, ginger and pepper flavours that could throw it out of balance, but it was superb! For food we tried all of the available appetizers but one, the lobster bisque. Photos are attached. Every dish was artfully presented, tasty, and suitable for sharing.I would like to return in the future for more cocktails and to try the main courses. More...
Fauna is my FAVOURITE restaurant in Ottawa! The best dish is the 80 Day Dry Aged Rib Eye... it is the BEST steak I've ever had. INCREDIBLE (it is a splurge, but WORTH IT). 80 Day Dry Aged Rib Eye: Tender meat, amazing flavour, perfect amount of juiciness and fattiness... Now I know what all the hype is about. It came with kimchee green beans and Korean potatoes, which complemented the meat well. SOFT SHELL CRAB: Super yummy! Crispy (because it was deep fried ) and lots of juicy crab meat! GUINEA FOWL: with parisienne gnocchi and asparagus. This dish was AMAZING. The whole time I was eating, I couldn't stop saying "WHAT A DELICIOUS BIRD" (yes, it's a bird. I thought it tasted similar to duck, but white meat; super tasty and tender)! Truthfully, the gnocchi wasn't my favorite (I'm SUPER picky about my gnocchi), but the deliciousness of the rest of the dish made up for it! Super memorable and I would 100% order this again.New Zealand LEMON SOLE: on sticky rice. Super yummy! The fish was tender but had a crispy exterior. ASPARAGUS: with brown butter béarnaise, Serrano ham floss and a poached egg - AMAZING! My boyfriend didn't want to order it because he didn't think asparagus could be special... He was so wrong! This asparagus dish was extremely flavourful and super memorable New Zealand COCKLES (similar to mussels): in a saffron wine sauce, served with toast. We really enjoyed these - very flavourful and the sauce was yummy to eat with the toast (which was also delicious).OCTOPUS ESCABECHE: We love octopus because of its unique chewy texture. This was one of my boyfriend's favourite dishes. It wasn't my favourite, but it was definitely yummy! I think I prefer octopus when it's been grilled and has a bit of a smoky flavour. This octopus has a more acidic/citrus flavour.I highly recommend this restaurant. Can't wait to go back!*For reviews and pictures of many different restaurants and dishes, check out my Instagram blog @littlefoodiebigworld! More...
Honestly I was told this was top 5 in ottawa, in my books this is top 3. The food here was absolutely amazing to say the least, and the accomadating drinks they paired with it the food was unreal. They treated me like I was someone and served me the greatest combination of food and drink. 5 stars come eat drink and be merry !!! More...
Good fresh food, very innovative, but the value in the end is not that good (pretty small plates).
I absolutely love fauna. This place is home to the best burger in Ottawa. 80 day dry aged Angus burger is out of this world. The bun it comes on is a fantastic brioche but I've recently stopped eating bread. Hence the lack of a bun. The fries are equally good. Triple fried and extra crispy. Salad is fresh with a light vinegarette. Service is always above and beyond. The people that work here are down to earth, knowledgeable, and friendly. Definitely my go to lunch spot in Ottawa.I've also had several other items on the menu. All equally good. But the burger is soooo good. Why mess with a good thing? Definitely worth coming here just for the burger. Ambience is nice and on the modern side. A bit of industrial flair. More...
The mixologist, Shannon, made the whole experience. Plus fresh, fresh food.
Great location with a nice little outdoor patio. Our waitress was friendly and attentive.Try the kimchi caesar!
More menu items to choose from would make this place awesome place. Flavors in every ingredient is out of this world
I saw this place made 100th in Canada's Top 100, so I went to try. I think your expectations get a bit skewed when a restaurant is on one of those lists - it was good, but not amazing. I found the prices on the high side, because you can have this kind of food/ingredients/cooking/ambiance in most major cities, and for less. The decor is weird - somehow it already feels dated. Une cuisine surprenante. Agréable soirée.
Whimsical, inventive, fresh and local. Ottawa’s best restaurant.
Nice atmosphere and great food and service!
Very good food, but I’d knock it for the prices which seem to not quite be justified beyond the expectation that this style of restaurant would cost this much. I think there’s some space for the prices to be lower based on what they’re actually serving. More...
My wife and I had our wedding dinner in the private basement. We and our guests were blown away by the service, quality of food and overall experience of the restaurant. I coresponded with Ken prior and his attention to detail, promot response and sensitivity to our families allergies and special requests was beyond what we expected. We are so pleased thank you to the staff for making our special day amazing! More...
I live in the neighbourhood and have walked past this restaurant countless times. This week we decided to go in. Wow! Fauna is legit. The atmosphere is open and vibrant. Fauna presents an exposed ceiling and brick walls combined with hanging lights and a casual warm glow. The menu isn’t extensive, but it is well-thought out and every dish looked tempting. Fauna has nature and game-based fare, giving credence to its name. I order the rabbit and my gf tried the duck breast, (which I sampled from her plate). They were grilled, seasoned and plated superbly. Both dishes were home runs. It’s pricey, but completely within reason for Fauna’s substance and style. If you’re looking for a place that makes you want to take a picture before you dig in, Fauna is a great choice! More...
Simply delightful. This is where you come for a leisurely business lunch, although they're also great for dinner and fun for large groups.I revisited Fauna this past week for a fundraiser and had a wonderful experience. They were warm and accommodating with guests, and the food was delicious. I had the hanky pansy cocktail to start and it was deliciously citrusy. For my appetizer I had the Rangoon crab. It was two small portions of crab deep fried in pastry. Compared to the other appetizers, it was a bit lacklustre in its presentation but tasted good. My entrée was the rabbit leg with couscous. This was tender, juicy and the couscous added a really nice texture and flavour. We all ordered dessert. The gluten free option was the best tasting: chocolate with a passion fruit mousse. I had the white chocolate and coffee dessert which I found a bit bland. The service was amazing and I can't wait to go back. More...
Wow! What a treat Fauna is. We came here recommended by a chef in the family. The decor is an eclectic blend of old and new with a hip vibe. The service was quick (we walked in without a reservation), accommodating (bar stools are tricky for me so they whipped up a table promptly without interrupting other diners) and knowledgeable as we were talked through the menus. The drinks list seemed to be curated with care. I haven't even mentioned the food! Unusual food combinations work well together and the whole meal was delicious. My only issue was our charming server offering extra forks to my companion--I didn't want to share! Yum! :) More...
Nice atmosphere, love the big windows and friendly staff. Mains were a little underwhelming for the price, drink selection is great, desserts were sublime.
Delicious, next level yummy
Good food. Good drinks. Amazing experience.
Great for lunch
Really enjoyed my experience here. Made a reservation on Open Table, which was quick and easy. Service was great, and I really liked the "Bartender Choice" concept on their drink menu; tell the server your craving and the type of liquor you would like to drink and the bartender would whip up something based in your request. I requested something "fresh and fruity" with a clear alcohol and I was not disappointed. Ordered the ribeye for two, and asked for a wine to pair. Our server made a great recommendation that really complimented our meal. Overall, an amazing experience and will definitely visit again the next time I'm in Ottawa. More...
They removed the blind tasting menu option so I have to lower my original rating (though it is still on their website). This feature was why we went to this restaurant multiple times and I was disappointed that it was no longer available. The food was still great.
Absolutely superb restaurant, fauna has a pleasant atmosphere and a smaller, but superb menu offering a great selection. I enjoyed all the food - the salmon was incredible, and the duck with Kimchi was also very very good. I personally prefer the lighter dishes but decided to try the duck this time, whereas my girlfriend ordered the rabbit. Both were very good, and even though I ordered a dish that I usually don't enjoy (the duck - sometimes it is too rich for me) it was still great. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for an excellent dining experience in a more casual and popular and friendly atmosphere. Their selection is excellent, as is the food and the prices. We really enjoyed dinner. Pricy but worth it. Interesting and high quality food. Yummy cocktails, I’d be happy to come again just for drinks. While the atmosphere is very nice, it was also very loud and we found it difficult to converse with each other and the waiter. More...
Went here for a lunch meeting today and the service was friendly and quick. Had the steak and fries, the steak was amazing and the fries were delicious as well. Will definitely be going back.
This restaurant is worth all the hype and more! Hands down one of the best steaks I've ever had. Fauna blew us away. The casual atmosphere is really inviting and trendy but the food is top quality. Small plates, however we left absolutely full after the recommended portions suggested by the waiter. Staff was very friendly and knew what they were talking about. More...
Great service, wonderful atmosphere...
Pleasant decor. Staff were friendly. Food was tasty. Enjoyable evening.
Superbe restaurant ! Aussi bien beau que bon ! Super rapport qualité prix !
We love their aged steaks.
Food was amazing. Service by Shannon even better.
Amazing food. Very expensive.
Probably the most under-rated and under appreciated restaurant in Ottawa. Superb staff, cocktails and the quality of food is nothing less than spectacular.
I few weeks ago, during March break, two (2) of my humble brothers and myself had the pleasure to dine at Fauna. After a few well-prepared and beautifully balanced drinks (Manhattan, Negroni bianco and a New York sour), we all ordered the Chef’s 5 course blind tasting menu with the optional wine pairings. We were not disappointed! Every dish was well balanced. Tasty, appetizing, spicy at times, the Chef presented a variety of dishes which included fish, homemade cheek beef pasta, arancini and a light desert. We appreciated the quality and freshness of the products. To the exception of one specific wine from Slovenia, we were happy with the wine selection. The only element missing was the patrons. If located in Montreal, Toronto or Vancouver, Fauna would be buzzing with customers all week long. Where is the fauna? Frankly, its a bit frustrating and puzzling. Is it the location or did we happen to fall on one particularly slow week where customers were busy skiing the slopes or bathing in the sun? Keep up the good work and dedication! Will be back for more. More...
Very good friends invited us out for dinner. It was the fist time we were there since it was changed over from a shoe repair shop to a restaurant. Who ever did the make over needs to be congratulated on the redesign. Lots of windows and a ambience that makes for a wonderful night out. The only negative would be is a very high ambient noise level that makes conversation nearly impossible when it fills up. For dinner two of us had the surprise five course tasting meal which used very fresh ingredients, presented and plated with care. All five courses were delicious and appreciated. The other two shared the dry aged steak which was just as delicious. For a Friday night it was a full house so reservations are a must. Only thing we noted was front staff seemed to be overwhelmed which was a possible book off by another staff member. Wine suggestions for the meal were well thought and complimented the meal as well. It was crazy Russians before here.
Bartender was very knowledgeable and made fantastic cocktails.
Excellente soirée autant la nourriture que le personnel. Je le recommande. A découvrir avec les yeux et les papilles. La vaisselle était colorée et raffinée. Un lieu pour se faire gâter. J'y retournerais demain...A essayer sans faute. More...
Review only for 14th Feb. V day special meun. To be a great restaurant. The fresh food and delicious is basic requirement. Fauna not only met these but also has some amazing idea of cooking and combination. From start to the end of the four courses, every dishes are at least good. Not like some restaurants, some dishes are always not that wonderful. 85dollars plus tax is afforable and worth it. You also are allowed to bring your own alcohol with 25 dollars per bottle charge (Its ok because the price of wine which is sold in any restaurant is double at least compared to LCBO). Will drop by again to try their normal meun. More...
This is definitely a little jewel that I was not expecting, particularly the wine list. Even by the glass, you won't find the same boring bottles served up everywhere else. If you're a wine lover and somewhat of a foodie, you have to check this place out.Went here for lunch and it was surprisingly empty. The ratings say it's expensive but it isn't, maybe that has something to do with the lack of lunchtime goers but honestly it's the same price range as other restaurants but the items are unique. So I don't get it but I will be getting myself to this place more often that's for sure Had 80 day aged burger. Oh boy. Tastes as good as it sounds. More...
The service was phenomenal considering how packed it was and the food was absolutely fantastic.
Last night was the best experience in Fauna. So good!!-Visited again tonight. My satisfaction was much higher this time. The service was improved and food was tasty. The Sunday morning cocktail and blind tasting course (5 dishes) was amazing!-Interesting menu! Drinks and the atmosphere of Fauna were great. The tuna tataki and flourless chocolate cake were delicious. However, everything else was over seasoned and too much salt. More...
Food was very very good. The deer tartare was served topped with salsify (instead of crostinis) and it was delicious. The dumplings dish had a wonderful calamansi broth. The duck was a very filling and rich dish, and the country ham dish was light, but not as small as some suggest. It's definitely quality over quantity here. The drinks were superb. The only reason for not having the fifth star was the dessert menu was quite small and not on par (choice wise) with the rest of menu. There were only 3 options. We had the tarte tatin, very good. Fauna, à découvrir. Un bijou de resto sur la rue Bank.
The decor is excellent, with good mood lighting and simple styling. Got the yellowtail crudo and the country ham. I recommend the country ham.

Delicious beef cheek, decent portion, fair price, easy atmosphere.. I definitely recommend to come here!
The most modern looking and homey place to go and have an outstanding gurmey meal. The plate is not small at all, but just a good size to make you happy !
We were very impressed with the food, especially the 80 Day Aged Rib-Eye for 2. The restaurant also had great service, nice atmosphere, and they were attentive to our dietary restrictions. We look forward to coming here again and would definitely recommend it! More...
Great food all around. The food was fresh, organic and local. The preparation and presentation were meticulous. Would definitely go again.
Hey Google can I give this place 6 stars? A solo meal out at this bright and bubbly restaurant. Staff are lovely. Food is amazing and quite possibly the best I have had all year. The main was Bison with a rich jus and just right crisp vegetables all very flavoursome. The desert was chocolate and passion fruit. Layers of mousse with a chocolate soil (actually quite large so maybe chocolate gravel) inspired charcoal marshmallows and a passion fruit coulis that bursts with zingy flavour. Worthy of a couple of Michelin stars. More...
The food is really good, however, the menu is very limited.
Interesting food! And the oysters were great!
Great food and great service make for a happy table!
Pictures from two different occasions; food and service are consistently good!
I came here twice and both to celebrate birthdays for others and they do not disappoint. They are by far the best place for food in town. The menu is refined and every dish I've ordered has tasted great. Although the price point is slightly higher than other places, the food well deserves it.The bartender is friendly and their cocktails are pretty good and inexpensive. I look forward to going back in the future. More...
Excellent and interesting dishes. Beautiful wines and cocktails. Tremendous service. Great atmosphere. All sums up to a marvelous evening.
So delicious. Way better than expected. The drinks are so yummy. Best whiskey sour I’ve had- ever. The beef cheek is melt in your mouth amazing.
I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a fabulous dining experience. We had booked a reservation and our table was delayed, no problem as we took a seat at the bar and had wonderful drinks. When I went to pay the bar tab I was informed that the drinks were on the house. I asked why and the bar manager said it was due to the delay in having our table ready on time. I thought this was such an amazing touch that the restaurant would go out of their way to take care of this for us. The whole team at Fauna is amazing, I have severe Tree Nut and Peanut allergies, the restaurant is able to accommodate ALL allergies and the service team is beyond knowledgable about providing recommendations. Our server was so wonderful, we ordered an app that had an odd number of available items and he was able to have the chef's prepare it with an even amount for everyone at our table to enjoy. Fauna constantly exceeds my expectations, thank you so much to everyone who works there in making this such an incredible place to eat. I trust the level of service at this restaurant so much that would bring my clients here for business meetings. If you are ever in Ottawa this is an absolute MUST for you to try, More...
Great place with excellent vegan options in addition to their mostly meat menu
Good foods good place
Great atmosphere, nice staff. Soft shell crab tempura was excellent, as was the duck, and the caesar salad.
Delicious and creative menu. Excellent service. Lively atmosphere. Highly recommend!
Had a few gripes, but to give Fauna anything but 5-stars would be a disservice: it really is one of the highest quality restaurants in Ottawa. Excellent for taking some business clients out, or a party of 6-12. And still very good for a date or small partyWe ordered: venison tartare, country ham, oysters & soft-shelled crab. Cocktails. All was phenomenal and prompt. The food was local, well-explained by the staff, and brought out in courses that complimented the dishes. Everything on the menu looked amazing, and the cocktails were exceptional (try the kimchi caesar).Gripes: This place is not a peaceful date restaurant like Town, or more subtle venues. There are a handful of huge tables and a bar that dominate the main floor, and if you have even 3/4 of those seats occupied, it'll be loud.If you come for a date/duo meal, you'll likely get seated by a corner near the window. The view of the street was nice, but -20ºC is still rough on the other side of a half-inch of glass. We ended up shivering through our country hamIf some rambunctious client dinners, or a laughing bridal shower party from Gatineau will destroy your anniversary ambiance, then you're rolling the dice by coming here. But if you're game for some party-vibes in the air while you eat, then you're golden... but maybe bring a sweater if there's snow outside. Really cute place with excellent food. Got the eggplant carpacio and dumpling as starters. Eggplant was definetely a coup de coeur; perfect seasoning with a touch of black tahini.m on top. Holding down in Centretown. Establishing itself as one of Canada's top 100 3 years running, Fauna does everything well from start to finish. But it's not just the food and the decor, their relationships with vineyards, farms and collaborations with local restaurants make Fauna a heart and soul place not just a pretty plate. I've never had a bad server and I've always enjoyed every drink. Fauna is a perfect date location or place for a celebration. I suggest the steak paired with a French wine. More...

One of the best farm to table restaurants I’ve been too. Service impeccable. Atmosphere was nice and relaxing. The food was outstanding with unique takes on the dishes. Try the kimchi caesar.
Came here with my partner for dinner on a Saturday night while were in town. I heard it was one of the top restaurants in Canada and wanted to give it a try. It has an casual, but upscale, bar/restaurant vibe. We were seated quickly and the servers were efficient. I ordered the Duck Breast and enjoyed it. The breast was juicy and had a nice crispy top. It was flavourful and paired well with the small side items (kimchi, corn, shiitake mushroom, and small scallion biscuits). In terms of things that could have been improved...I thought the price was a bit high for the quantity of food, even though the quality was great! (~$43 after tax+tip)More an observation during my experience - I'm usually used to servers being conversational when I go out to eat, but the servers that night more or less spoke only when they were taking an order or answering a question, which I found different and surprising at first.Overall, the food quality was great, but it's a more expensive place to dine and the portions might not fill you up. Amazing service. Delicious food and cocktails. Cider list was inspired. We popped in for a late night snack and drinks and we were not disappointed. Our server was very knowledgeable about the dishes and origins of the ingredients. He was able to discuss with us the recipies and ingredients in detail. Creative small plate cuisines. Comfortable setting and trendy interior decor.
My favourite restaurant in Ottawa. They change the menu seasonally, but the staple that always remains is the 80-day dry aged rib eye steak. Each one is $80 but feeds two, making it a great deal for the quality of the meat. If you're feeling adventurous, try the 5- course blind tasting option, it never disappoints. My partner and I have been going there for every birthday and anniversary since we discovered it, and don't plan on changing that. More...

This was a fantastic meal, with multiple courses of interesting food. If you are planning on dining with them, I would make a reservation first, we were able to walk in but only because we were only 2 and early in the evening. Their wine list has a depth rarely seen even in high end restaurants.Their menu is more constrained, to provide the diner with a more controlled experience, and one can even opt for a sort of chefs choice meal. The food is definitely interesting, and the ingredients are used in unique ways, so unique in fact that it was difficult to verify that the opening course was what was ordered, and my dining companion and I simply shared to experience both dishes, still somewhat puzzled. This is high end food in an unpretentious atmosphere. Very pleasant. More...

Relaxing and welcoming atmosphere. Food was great both presentation and taste wise. Service was attentive and polite... nice music choice; wish it was not as loud; which made it hard to carry out a conversation... would definelty recommend it... More...
Without a doubt one of the best meals we have eaten, rivaling our favourite Toronto restaurant Scaramouche! Treat yourself to the tasting menu with wine pairings and enjoy the culinary ride!!
Sat at the bar and had a great experience. Good wine and good chow!
Great food, atmosphere and staff! Really enjoyed the cod main and our dessert.
These guys have definitely upped their game since they opened a few years ago. Chefs tasting was worth it
Good food, decent lunch prices.
Believe it or not, Fauna has amazing fries.
Good food but not cheap.... and honestly I was hungry afterwards but I should have got a main. The soup was amazing!! It was spicy and had a fantastic crunch to it. And I really enjoyed my cocktail, it was called "clear". The service was nice, and the atmosphere was chill. More...
The food tastes good, but each dish has a small portion. 80 days dry rib-eye steak is recommended, but it is over price and not enough for two people.
Spectacular 80 day aged beef burger. Small draught beer selection but a couple of home runs from Stone City and Nickel Brook / Sawdust City (11.05 collab).
Incredible atmosphere with outstanding service and incredible food. The chefs 5 course tasting menu blew our minds! Highly recommend.
Wow! This place is amazing! Went there with work and LOVED it. I had the duck rillette and the pork belly ( my meal of choice and best I ever had) no kidding this placed is ranked well on the top 100 in Canada! It is a great experience and delicious food! More...
Went to Fauna to celebrate my wife’s birthday with friends. We used the private room downstairs. Excellent food and service. The kitchen were also very accommodating with all of our food restrictions. Looking forward to returning again for our clinic’s Christmas party in January. More...
Amazing food. Great experience. I can't wait for my next visit!
Just Great, must go ! Great team of youg talented chefs !
Great food. Outstanding service. People that work there are incredibly nice and friendly
The seating here isn’t ideal and the service isn’t stellar but the food is interesting and very tasty. There are better restaurants in Ottawa though so I wouldn’t necessarily recommend Fauna.
A very elegant fine dining restaurant, excellent service and the food is of a very high standard
Fun but classy atmosphere, food was delicious! My friend and I shared the oyster, salmon and spiced lamb shoulder. Great and friendly service too! Deff will be back
Crazy delicious. Had tempura shrooms appy and beef cheek main. Outta this world tender. We'll be back.
The food is really, really good (though not cheap). A very interesting menu. The atmosphere is great and the service was awesome. My only complaint is the acoustics of the place. The night we were there it was busy... but not PACKED. It was difficult (well.... bordering on impossible) to carry on a conversation with my wife, who was sitting directly across from me. More...
Awesome industry bar. Staff were awesome to me as I was visiting town. Will return.
I had such an amazing experience at Fauna! My boyfriend and I went for the tasting menu and it was one of the best meals I’ve ever had. I was blown away by how well thought out each dish was from the wine pairings to the portions of every ingredient. On top of the food the service was impeccable. Half way through the meal I began feeling off as I sometimes do, completely unrelated to the food, and our waiter treated us to a $25 gift card. Friendly smiles from the hosts and other wait staff. One of our city’s gems no doubt. Cheers! More...
Great place for dinner. Great service and good.
i liked being there. I was just awesome place to spend time
My wife and I went to Fauna for our 1 year wedding anniversary. We were both impressed by the food. Fauna is seriously michelin grade food operating out of a more casual setting. My veal tartare starter was one of the best dishes I have ever had!! Amazing. Also the service was excellent as well, I loved the amount the gents knew about their food and also all the awesome beers they had on tap. It was the highlight of our visit to Ottawa for sure. Went for lunch, ate one of the best burger I ever had!
Nice beer list and great food
My friends were in town and found this little gem... They had already had been in for lunch and we returned again that night for dinner. The food was incredible, it left us amazed at the effort and quality with which flavours were presented. Very reasonably priced for what we received. We will definitely be returning. I absolutely recommend fauna to any foodies or those seeking great food and a change of the monotony of alot of restaurants today. More...
We had a business meeting followed by lunch. The room in the basement has a nice feel, with a long table for about 16. The presentation on the large TV was visible. There was a bit of noise from people walking overhead and down stairs, and the doors were a bit noisy. Coffee was brought out by a very nervous server and you could hear the dishes shaking as he carried them - kind of funny! I like my coffee strong but it was absolutely not to my taste, very acidic and I didn't finish the cup. The lunch menu was nicely prepared and offered soup or salad, three mains and fruit or chocolate dessert. All very delicious. Parking on the street can add another $10 on to your bill at lunch. Perfect lunch spot, the mussels were excellent.
The food was amazing! Like, unreal. I unfortunately can't give a 5 star review, as our server ruined the experience for us. We easily spent an extra 45 minutes at the restaurant, just waiting for him to come back to our table in between courses and for payment. This was a Wednesday night, not overly busy. We left extremely disappointed. More...
Très bon. Trop cher.
Amazing meal will be back soon.
The amazing burger on Fauna's lunch menu has pretty much ruined all other burgers for me...
What a steak!
Great food, friendly staff, and a nice atmosphere. Love the theme of farm to table and local food. Very expensive and smaller portions of food
My favourite restaurant in Ottawa
Best bar in Ottawa!
Great food and great cocktails. On my favourite list. Highly recommended.
Excellent food but slowish service.
Amazingly fast service. Great for a nice dinner. Not cheap but worth it.
Excellent food, service is good. There's an option to have bartender concoct you a personal mixed drink based on your preferences- do it! Was delish, and fun to boot!
Great food, drink and service.
Great food, knowledgeable staff. A lot better service compared to my first visit. Really enjoyed the fishcakes.
Mary Ann Calo
Outstanding meal and service. Recommend highly.
Had an excellent dinner. Octopus and Halibut were superb. Great wine list including some interesting Orange wines.
I've been to Fauna 4 times and have found the service consistently 5 star. The staff know and and love the menu and they are less waiters than culinary professionals. The food is always worth the price and the ambiance is warm and cozy and never too noisy. Perfect for dinner with friends, dates or business dinners. More...
As good as it gets.Exemplary service, nice atmosphere, and creative high-quality food. As others have noted, it's a little heavily-weighted towards the carnivorous, but it is not your standard beef and pork. We sampled octopus, cod, salmon, goose, elk, caribou, bison and more. Every mouthful was interesting - a few merely good, much more often amazing.Try it. Be delighted. More...
We stopped in here for lunch and it was really nice. The restaurant was empty because of a snowstorm, but the food was delicious! The gnocchi could have had more depth but the burger we got was out of this world! More...
Amazing food and staff. Definitely recommend the 80 day aged stake! The only thing that wasn't exceptional were the dessert they were a little too eclectic.
Having tried this restaurant maybe a couple of years ago, I always thought back to the yummy food and absolutely amazing cocktails, so I decided to make a visit on a weekday evening. What I tried:- To drink: strawberry fields - I usually really like their cocktails because they are strong! This one was delicious, but had quite a lot of egg white foam. I would probably try a stronger-tasting one next time! - Swordfish crudo: I thought the portion was small at 4 pieces of crudo, but the fish was very fresh. However, it was a little difficult to chew, compared to say, scallop crudo. Accompagniments were very citrusy but did not seem to add to the dish much, I preferred just having the crudo on its own! - Beef tongue pastrami: WOW. I wish I could have ordered 2 or 3 of these (to replace the other dishes I got)! I really love tongue due to the texture, and this one was perfectly tender, and sliced thinly. The accompagniments were delicious, and having the sauce au jus made it comfortingly meaty. The mustard seeds and corn mixture also went very well with each bite of tongue. :P - Eggplant pakoras: I don't really know why I was thinking of ordering an Indian dish at a Canadian restaurant; I wish I had chosen another dish! It was the most salty dish of the night, but the curry undertones were not too strong. If you don't like spicy, don't get this! - Smoked bison bavette: This was probably the second best dish, but it was much less tender than the pastrami. Next time, I will probably choose a different meat, such as duck, or the fish they had. I really like the interiors! Although it can be loud, it's not too loud, but your conversation won't be heard by other tables. I have sat at the bar previously, which is also a fun experience because the bartender is entertaining to watch when making drinks! More...
Super bon. rien à redire juste parfait
Great food, great atmosphere, but be warned it's pricey.
I wanted to date the cocktail menu more than my boyfriend. Kimchi Ceasar and Blue Sea pictured. To die for!
Interesting taste combinations. Presentation lovely, food tasty significant wine and alcohol list, award winning cocktails and food. Service allows you to dine on casual chic More...
A nice trendy restaurant with probably one of the best burgers I have ever eaten. Seriously, try it. Absolutely worth it.
Great food and service
Très bons plats, service impeccable. Les cocktails sont aussi vraiment bons. Rien à redire, les tarifs sont à la hauteur de la qualité.
Waow. Very fancy yet accessible place for all. I had the bison, my partnet the halibut, both were cooled to perfection. Definately recommend.
Great atmosphere, amazing staff, and fantastic food!
Inventive menu. Main dishes provide a variety of textures and tastes. We'll be back.
Blind 5 courses is an excellent choice ! Overall a little too salty but very very good
Always fantastic - interesting food, great service, lovely room. One of my favourites in Ottawa.
Mind blowing beef short rib, Amazing blend of tastes on a plate. Best place in the city!!
Delicious. Amazing service. Great ambiance. Great beer list. Great wine list. Great cocktails.
Great bar staff and drinks. Food was good.
I thought that the bison carapaccio was fantastic and the tuna was great, wife likes veg dishes and loved the pakora and the beets. I found the beer list lacking recognisable brands, so selecting one was a bit of a shot in the dark. The ambiance was marred by acoustics as the place was too loud to hold a comfortable conversation, but the quality of the food made up for it. This is definitely a good place for an appetizer and a drink, we will be back. More...
Gnocchi were fantastic! Completely different, but great! Other dishes were a bit too strange, but always an adventure.

The selection of beer is fantastic, as well as the staff they are extremely knowledgeable and very friendly!
Good food and staff. Background noise level may be a bit too high for some patrons.
Good food, willing to make veggie substitutions. Amazing sour/specialty beer menu
Devine but expensive but worth it. Nice atmosphere and excellent service. Unique flavour combinations and drinks.
Amazing experience! Went with a group of friends and had a wonderful dinner here. All the food was delicious (we shared a couple of plates) and the hosts were energetic and happy to help. Definitely want to go back there sometime! More...
One of the best lunch services in Centretown. At dinner you must try the aged steak its worth every penny. Nice atmosphere and friendly service
I have a great time every time I go here
I can't say enough good things about Fauna. I've eaten here around 2-3 times a month since opening (easily 40+ visits). I have never eaten anything I haven't loved, and I've tried as much of their inventive menu as I could. Frog legs? Yes please. Duck heart tartare on V-day? You guys are dark, funny, and I couldn't eat raw heart on a better day. Every crudo, carpaccio, and tartare I've tried are all the things delicious. Each plate is a work of art. Flavours are balanced perfectly. Excellent drink selection. The staff might as well be my second family. They are all super attentive, friendly, and incredibly knowledgeable about all things delicious. I've built a rapport with most of the Fauna's team, and can't say enough good things about them. The main room itself is cozy, open, and industrial. Yes. Those adjectives do not normally go together. But they do at Fauna. Even the bathrooms are gorgeous. The Foundry room downstairs has been a real treat to use, which I have on a few occasions. Service with a private booking was fantastic. Double plus good for the ability to play your own music. In my opinion, one cannot go far wrong eating at Fauna. Caveat: those who can go wrong have an unrefined palate, prefer quantity over quality, or go to restaurants to simply play the part of a scenester. There are many self-proclaimed "foodies" - I despise that word. I know food because I took the time to educate myself about as many aspects of cuisine as possible. Just because you spend lots of money eating out doesn't make you any more special or unique, or valued to society. You are not a special snowflake.Fauna deserves 5 stars for everything they've done. Today, everyone feels they have a right to an opinion, and they do. However, not all opinions hold equivalent value. If you know high quality when you taste it, you'll love this place. I've had over 100 individual dishes here, and have not once had an any issues. More...

I have been at Fauna multiple times for lunch, dinner, and special occasions.I visit many restaurants in Ottawa regularly. In my view, Fauna is one of the best balancing atmosphere , service, food and wine options, delivering an excellent overall experience at great value. If you have the chance to talk with Alex, his knowledge of wines and recommendation for your wine pairing are excellent! More...
Fauna is my favorite haunt - best to go with a rezzy, but I prefer to sneak in, sit at the bar and watch the [award winning] bartenders do their thing. A good buzz, great food and a very cool space. More...
Tapas style plates which are great for sharing. These staff are incredibly knowledgeable with the menu and potential drink pairings.
Great service and drinks, atmosphere is classy. Portions a little small in my opinion, but the food is quite delicious.
5 course tasting menu was fantastic!
Exceptional and interesting though not inaccessible food. Very fresh and well put together.
Very yummy indeed. I had the tuna appetizer and it was to die for. Perfectly seared an yummy crunchy Japanese seasonings complex enough that it's something I cannot make at home. Best to eat out...at Fauna! The flourless chocolate ginger cake was also absolutely amazing. Be warned: it's acpricey place. Wine list included, which starts at $65 a bottle if I remember correctly. 100% amazing :)
Great food and atmosphere. The drinks are fantastic. Staff is friendly and helpful in deciding what to order.
We did the blind 5 course chef's choice. All were interesting, and at least one was exceptional. $75 pp. We did the wine pairing as well, and shared that. $60. Our server, Stevie, was great. Really personable and attentive. More...
Hands down one of the best meals I have ever had. Everything was cooked to perfection. The pakoras were wonderful, the octopus was delicious, and the duck simply melted in my mouth. The atmosphere of the place is really great as well. It's on the pricier end, but it's totally worth it. More...
Incomparable place for a group. We were 12 and had the chef's pairing menu. Fantastic!
Pricy, but very inventive and delicious modern cuisine
Amazing cocktails, chill music. One of the good places in Ottawa.
Food was absolutely wonderful. The dry aged steak was literally to die for. The venison tartar was the breathtaking. The eggplant pakoras were spicy, crispy and so delicately flavorful. The Caesar was perfect. My only complaint was the oysters came in a bed of melted ice which if you know oysters ruins them and takes all the flavor out of them. More...
Yes it's expensive BUT... it's fantastic and the staff is polite and professional. Great place, great food, great people
One word: DELICIOUS! If you go there you must try their aged ribeye steak if they have it in the menu!
Bouffe de très grand qualité.Un des meilleurs restaurant a ottawa si c est pas le meilleur.
Delicious! Fresh food, great atmosphere, knowledgeable and curtious staff. Worth every penny. A must for foodies!
Interesting and variable take on flavor combinations.
Had a good steak late night on Thursday. Beer was good too.
Best Desserts in Ottawa.
Love this place. Had a great time in the private wine cellar room for our company Christmas party.
Great food and cocktails. Service was good. Food was not too salty like some people say in the reviews. The atmosphere was loud, however, as bare brick walls don't dampen any sound, and it was busy. Will be back :) Try their other place also; Bar Laurel in Westboro area. More...
Good food. Really busy place. Brick walls and hard surface make for very noisy interior. Service can get slow as a result. Didn't strike me that they had enough wait staff. So, apart from the relatively slow service, it's a decent restaurant if you want a very vibrant dining scene. More...
I'm hesitant to tell people about this restaurant. It has seating for no more than 30-40 guests, so if it becomes even more popular, I'm going to have a hard time returning to what has turned into my favourite restaurant in Ottawa.
Came here as while visiting from New York. The ribeye steak for two is transcendent. Service was excellent, and the atmosphere was elegant.
I came here with a friend for dinner two weeks ago and had the steelhead trout brandade. My friend got the halibut, and for dessert we had chocolate + ginger. My dish could have come with more bread to mop up the sauce with, but it was delicious nonetheless. The dessert was melt-in-your-mouth delicious and the ginger worked well. The presentation for all three dishes was very good. In general, the waitress knew the dishes pretty well, but something about her was kind of off-putting. I'm not sure if she was just super quiet or just trying to not disturb us, but every time she came to check up on us or take away our plates, she just came up to us without saying a word so it was pretty awkward. That aside, the cocktail that the waitress recommended was superb (blue sea)!! It was very unique -- spicy, tangy, sweet, and fresh-tasting (cucumbers) all in one! This was possibly the best cocktail I've ever had. It lasted me my whole meal (usually I drink my cocktails pretty fast but this one I was satisfied with taking slow sips). The ambience was pretty intimate - ideal for a date or business meeting, but would also work for a nice dinner with friends or family. It's a pretty pricy restaurant but worth it if you want to treat yourself! More...
Great space, attentive and knowledgeable staff, great food makes for a great experience. Step out of your comfort zone and try the orange wine.
Called to ask if a table was available at the last minute on a Saturday evening (yes, mea culpa). They said no table, but would hold a spot at the bar for me and my friend, if we could get there soon. We really appreciated being accommodated...it's great when a place actually wants your business.Sat at the bar. Ordered a great Beaujolais, upon bartender's reco. I don't usually like Beaujolais. The venison tartare was awesome. Brussel sprouts were crispy and savoury. Pig cheeks were a nice indulgence. The deep fried octopus was crispy but not heavy, and the sauce was delicious. We even got a free glass of beer because someone forgot to mark that they already picked it up! Had a great meal. Would definitely go back! Thanks! More...
Fauna. As opposed to Flora. Yes, we're talking about animals. And we had them all - fish, fowl, wild game, farm animal. Fauna has a blind five course tasting menu for $75 per person. The offer wine pairings at $40 or $60. Not more booze, just better quality. The blind menu is not an effort by the kitchen staff to get rid of leftovers or slow moving items. Rather it is an experiment with new dishes to see what might make it to the next month's menu.We started with champagne and a Mexican inspired ceviche. It was OK, but not great. The next course was venison tartare. Again OK but not great. But the third course was a roast boar belly with roasted vegetables that was simply divine - my favourite dish of the evening. It was perfectly paired with a white wine, whose name I can't recall. Next came duck breast on spätzle and mushrooms with a mushroom mousse. It too was very good and perfectly paired with a Nero d'Avola. The last course was dessert - cake and ice cream served with a muscadet - also good, but not really special. The service was great. The room is a bit noisy once all the table are full. So, what do I really think? Fauna was picked as one of the top 100 restaurants in Canada in 2017 - #65 to be precise. Only 5 restaurants in Ottawa made the list. So I went with pretty high expectations. But while Fauna was good, I can think of several other Ottawa restaurants where I have had a better meal. More...
Amazing discovery in the National capital restaurant businesses. The 5 meals blind course is a great food discovery, a real tastebuds fantasy. The wine card is way too costly. Bravo overall! More...
We decided to try the tasting menu and it was excellent! 5 courses with wine pairing. Every dish was of quality, mixing well flavours, everything well though if. Salmon belly, duck hearts, cornish hen...I felt the menu was creative and carefully prepared. I also liked that overall it wasn't an excessive amount of food. My husband and I love trying the tasting menus whenever we go to a new restaurant in a new city, but quite often I feel like it is just waaaay too much food. Not tonight, it was just perfect, not the kind you leave the restaurant feeling bad from eating too much. More...
Another delicious inventive and interactive evening. The food was wonderful and very well thought out. The place was slammed but the servers and the bar staff still made us feel like we were the only ones there. They took time to talk to us about the orange wine they had on the wine list and were happy to share their knowledge and experiences with us. The food came out in a timely manner and was hot and delicious. You can really sense the servers are proud of the restaurant and really want their clients to enjoy their experience. Can't wait to go back ! More...
We had an excellent meal. Really nice beet and fennel soup. Delicious steak. Nice design and atmosphere. Attentive service. The real highlight was the desserts. We tried each one and they were all very well thought out, surprising and special. More...
I've been to Fauna twice but this is my first review of them. Fauna has been a welcome addition to Ottawa's growing food scene. I came here on a Thursday night with my girlfriend and we looked through the menu. She settled on the soft shell crab appetizer and the lamb for the main, and I ordered the bison carpaccio to start and the quail as a main. Our drinks came after a short while as well. They have an interesting cocktail list and a very extensive wine list as well (and for those who are into wine, Fauna's wine director interned at the famed Noma in Copenhagen). The appetizers were delicious. The soft shell crab was soft on the inside and crispy and flavourful on the outside. The carpaccio was beautifully presented and a very well put together dish. Again, the flavour was spot on. The lamb and quail arrived shortly after we finished our appetizers. The lamb came with veggies and some couscous. The quail was rubbed with peri peri spice, and served on top of some smoked buttermilk and veggies on the side as well. Both dishes were delicious. The quail was a bit spicy, the peri peri rub definitely had a kick to it, but that's where the buttermilk comes in. You add a bit of it to the quail and immediately let up the spice and made the quail very enjoyable. Again, the seasoning was spot on and the meat was juicy and tender. My girlfriend really enjoyed the lamb as well, and the few bites of it that I had were very tasty. The dessert menu came after we finished and we picked the panacotta. It was a visually appetizing dish that tasted very good as well. Great way to finish the night. Fauna is an excellent restaurant and definitely one of the best in Ottawa.(As a note, our entire meal was covered by the restaurant. On her previous visit, my girlfriend left a few comments about one of the dishes with their management and management graciously invited us back to give them another try. Even prior to last night, Fauna was and remains one of our favourite restaurants in Ottawa.) More...
Great drinks, great unique food and good service
I find the portions are just right and the atmosphere is unique: cozy and yet adventurous.
Fabulous food, portion size was perfect. But what really makes this restaurant so good is the staff. Colin served us and he was stellar!
Great service, great food. Every visit is an experience.
The staff is indeed really nice, the food is really good and full of flavors. The portions are nice and well balanced. Definitely one of the great address in Ottawa !
Great ambience and an excellent lunch menu. A nice fusion of haute cuisine and pub food. Went with my office for Christmas lunch, and had a great time. The staff knew their beverages and pairings. More...

Amazing service, and the food is phenomenal. Shared the crispy duck and ribeye between three of us and it is delish!!!
A bit pricey but very imaginative and tasty. The olive plate was amazing!
I've been to Fauna several times and on every occasion my dining experience is nothing short of incredible. The food, drink, atmosphere & service are all amazing. Restaurant très sympa. Ambiance branchée et plats sophistiqués. Viande de très bonne qualité
One of the best spots in Ottawa.
A really great experience and the food was super. The staff knew the menu by heart including allergens which was super helpful as I have an allergy. The service was fantastic and the staff recommendations on food and wine were spot on. The atmosphere is really lovely, modern but very warm - felt perfect. We will definitely go back! More...

Excellent food. Experimental and delicious. Though I feel like fancy restaurants will have a high price point, Fauna's prices didn't feel particularly justified in the quality or amount of their food. Great atmosphere! And the kitchen was kind enough to accommodate a dietary request to ensure our dining experience was almost perfect.
We had a really amazing lunch here. Fantastic service and excellent food - burger for me and perfectly marinated & cooked steak for my friends. Wonderful wine list and cheese plate at the end. Would go back in a minute. More...
Decided to come here one Wednesday night without a reservation, and was able to get a seat at the bar. The cocktails here are very good with some unique options. The Tom Collins here was probably the best cocktail I've ever had! The food was great, I had the soup of the day (Cream of Tomato) even though I generally don't like cream based soups, but it was amazing! I could have licked the bowl. I had a tofu main, it came with noodles and vegetables, it was pretty good but I think my meat-eating boyfriend enjoyed his dish more. We spilt the "chocolate and malt" dessert, which was quite good, but was supposed to come with chocolate cookies, but came with one nickle sized cookie! Not great for sharing, but luckily it came with enough delicious ice cream, caramel sauce and brittle to satisfy both of us. I can't wait to go back, will definitely be sure to make a reservation next time! More...
This place is outstanding, the decor is cozy and cool, but the food is where it's really at. The food is foodie heaven, small plates and large plates, which is the trend now in most foodie restaurants (think TOWN on Elgin - also great by the way). The menu is small and manageable for the kitchen, ensuring that everything that comes out is solid and well executed, instead of a massive menu where there are more hits and misses.Last time I went here had the Emu Carpaccio and the ''Pork'', the carpaccio was a revelation. Amazing flavors, with all the right notes of salt, acid and crunch, all perfectly balanced. The ''Pork'' was a sous vide bone in pork chop that was outstanding, with mushrooms and other perfectly cooked sides. Can't reccommend this place enough, it's probably my top restaurant in O-Town right now, right beside Supply and Demand. More...
Excellent food. I tried the Soup of the day along with 2 plates. My friend had ordered two plates as well. A plate would be slightly smaller than a full meal but with the soup and two plates I was well fed. The duck that I got was great. The garnish is not something you'd commonly see but from what I tasted and shared, I enjoyed all. The staff was great and the location itself is very nice. I'm happy to have finally tried this place after seeing the signs for the longest time. More...

The food was phenomenal, the service was great, and the atmosphere and décor are just wonderful. This place was definitely worth the wait!
With a menu that never seems to be the same, the atmosphere and food quality never disappoint. Fauna likes to keep you guessing, and in my case; coming back. Though the items vary from visit to visit, the tapas restaurant caters to finer tastes and features something for everyone: from comfort foods, gourmet delights and vegan dishes. A fair forewarning would be their drink menu, which can deliver a hefty blow to your bank account with its pricey drinks. Highly recommend to anyone seeking an intimate, gourmet dining adventure!
