Last year, we hired John and his helper to install Faux brick, and it turned out well. This year, we requested the removal of tile, and installation of a backsplash using the same material and method.
The result this time was drastically dissimilar. The start was delayed and he was unprepared. He asked us for a mop, a rag, and batteries for his laser level. He didn't have a drill or screwdrivers to deal with the unforeseen ripping of the drywall. He came at 1030, and left at 3 on the first day. My husband even helped with the tile removal as it was apparent that the job would take a significant amount if time without a helper. When we viewed the mortar upon completion, it was still wet, and hard to tell the finished result. We paid. When it dried the next day, the errors became more apparent. The end result was poor. When I expressed my displeasure, he was rude, said he "felt rushed", and just dismissed me without making any offer to make things right saying "Goodbye". "Next time keep that in mind when you hire someone"
The results speak for themselves. Bricks buried in mortar, some bulging, 1 loose, some cracked, etc.
In retrospect, we believe his helper was the skilled worker. (No longer employed)
If you like this result for 2300 dollars, go for it.
Everyone has a bad day, but his flippant response is what motivated this post.

Edmunds Landscaping recently finished a complete overhaul of our backyard space, and we couldn't be any happier with the results. John and his crew tore up and removed everything in the existing backyard and laid interlock, capped the patio in flagstone, installed a fence and laid sod. We had new front steps installed last year by Mack's Landscaping out of Scarborough (Maxltd.ca). They didn't stand behind their work and refused to answer our calls when their work started to move 4 months after installation. We found John through a friend. He did a big interlock project at a neighbour's place and they were very please and impressed by his work.We found John to be very prompt with his responses, very thorough in his estimate and great to work with. John and his one person came when he promised and he kept us informed on what he was doing and any issues that he found in the original installation (which was horrible).He rebuilt the landing, dug up roots of plants that were supposed to be completely removed and installed the boxwoods all in a day. My next door neighbour and I wanted to have the steep, weedy and neglected slope from our downtown houses to the street hardscaped into terraces. We hired John and we are so happy with his work - everyone walking by now says it's the nicest garden on the street! It wasn't an easy job: no parking and nowhere to have the stone delivered (requiring him to make a trip to the stone yard every day before starting), and uncooperative weather. We contracted Edmunds Landscaping to replace our patio in the backyard and front walkway leading up to our porch. John was a pleasure to work with from the very beginning. He was responsive to any questions we had, and provided helpful suggestions in the best way to fix a downspout problem we had.
