Overpriced but worth every penny
Great food and great service.
Absolutely amazing, I had the chicken and waffles with blueberries and chipotle maple syrup. Reasonable prices and great atmosphere.
So many food options, really friendly staff, the food tastes really good.
Everything about Bernstein's is excellent. They have the best pastrami and corned beef sandwiches in town, especially good on their thick-cut rye bread. Their french fries are also second to none, and are always made fresh. Their cabbage borscht is also the best I've ever tasted. As well, the service is always very friendly and attentive! More...
Great deli, prices absolutely warranted by excellent quality ingredients. Soups, deli meats, Gunn's bakery goods, and salads also available for sale in the adjacent small store.
Great freshly made meals and soups, huge portions, friendly service. Very tasty. I ordered the Deluxe corned beef sandwich with the wonderful borscht. To die for. In Winnipeg for 10 days, been here four times, gotta be good hahaha More...
Great service and food.
I wish Vancouver had anything even close to this authentic and fantastically delicios deli. Could eat here 3 times a day. Dont change annything!
Great hamburgers. Cabbage borscht can't be beat.
Jo Ann Sutherland
great chicken soup and chicken livers, and sandwiches.
Heavy duty quality, mega filling
Amazing homemade soups you can buy from the fridge or freezer (pretty much every kind you can think of including multiple kinds of borscht) and a wide variety of other homemade meals in the freezer you can easily heat up. They often have a wide selection of bread and bagels from Gunn's bakery too. I'm never disappointed. More...
Stopped at Bernstein’s Deli for lunch with a coworker and they delivered. As in... great food and exactly what I hoped for and expected. Having been to some of the top deli’s in Manhattan and not having a serious pastrami in a long time, I was long overdue. The pastrami was delicious andantes shaved so fine it was just falling apart, while the seeded mustard and whole grain bread were “mighty fine”!! Based on what I have seen on their menu, I will be back and likely for latke’s at breakfast. Couldn’t resist picking up some of their homemade garlic pita chips on the way out. Fast service and good prices. Gotta check these guys out... More...
Visited for the first time for breakfast. Food was great, service was great. Overall excellent experience! Will be back!
Great small friendly place. Best borscht ever!!
Fabulous family owned and run Deli. Food is fantastic and the service always friendly.
Oh my god this please is the BEST for breakfast - they do all the classics and also offer an innovative menu with so many unique and delicious choices. Whenever I'm in Winnipeg I stop in AT LEAST twice. More...
Staff is very welcoming. Really recommend the challah french toast!
Excellent food and friendly service
Wife's been in love with their pastries for a while
Man I love Bernsteins. Everytime I go there are new things like Purple Corn Milk (?!) 8-)
Great sandwiches hand sliced corned beef friendly staff, service can be a touch on the slow side. Gotta give em a break though its usually packed. The sandwich is worth the wait. Deluxe Reuben is just that deluxe, give it a go you will be glad you did. More...
Amazing soup and carrot cake! Highly recommended !
Food is great, coffee is not.
Perfect Kosher style deli. Food is good and priced high, but you're paying for real quality. Restaurant side can get very busy so making sure you arrive early (or late) after a lunch rush is a good idea.
Bernstein's is the absolute best! Such a fantastic locally owned business with the nicest staff/owners. I am vegan so I obviously do not eat or purchase a large portion of their products, but they offer several delicious vegan options AND have recently started bringing in Beyond Meat Burgers to purchase by the dozen, at the cheapest price in the city. I just placed my first order and can't wait to pick them up! I appreciate that a deli like them has reached out to the vegan community in attempts to bring them delicious cruelty free food. They are genuinely excited about their venture into vegan food and it shows! Thanks so much Bernstein's! If you're a vegan in Winnipeg, you've got to check this place out! More...
Excellent quick place to eat.Best Sandwich and soup I ate in a long time.
A great little place disguised as a grocery/deli. They are hiding a fantastic menu in the quaint little restaurant and offer an absolute classic selection of deli inspired foods. The breakfast/brunches are deadly in size and satisfaction factors as you can get some of of your deli favourites with a rise and shine twist. The deli hash is particularly worthy of praise as a mountain of deli meats overflows from your hash browns to every corner of your plate. More...
Great food would go back
Great food and deli.
A great local eatery and business blended in one place. I ordered their signature breakfast hash and it was amazing. The are a part of local frequency app and you also get 5% cash back if you pay using your app.
Excellent homestyle food. Latkas are delicious
Great lunch spot
Bernstein's! I find this the place to be! A distinct cultural hub, with a warm welcoming flavor , and tempting shmear of delicious Delectables to please any palate.
good food but very expensive
Bernstein's is always spot on. Best corned beef in the city. Stellar Borscht. Amazing breakfast! Poutine was killer too! Never been disappointed!

Absolutely love their grilled cheese on rye
I always buy their corned beef and other deli delights. A great place to linger over a great meal with friends
We got seated quickly, the service was excellent, our server approached the table with water, gave us time with the menu, and made some suggestions too. The food was tasty. I would definitely go back! More...
What ever one orders, it is made to your exact wishes, no matter how fussy you are! My usual breakfast order is- Crisp bacon, sunny side up eggs, well done hash browns, thick sliced buttered toast. Perfectly done all the time! If you want to pick up and take home food, they have the deli for fresh cut meats, great selection of frozen soups, a huge selection of pickles and fresh City rye bread as well as great apple jacks for a great snack! 2 apple jacks make a great meal for me ! lol More...
I haven’t been to Bernstein’s in a while but was glad I went today. My friend and I both enjoyed our breakfasts and coffee. We will be back soon. Great service and reasonably priced. Of course we picked up Imperial cookies in the way out. More...
The soups are home made. Yum! The corned beef sandwiches are super thick! WOW!
Gotta say I'm a little annoyed with myself for not getting here sooner. Very good products (we bought some display case items as well as our lunch). Bit of a knock for kind of slow service and tough fries. Corned beef on my Rueben house made and excellent. Not cheap, but it shouldn't be. More...
Quite possibly the best sandwich meat in the city. Even rivalling Millers Meats which is the go to for top shelf meat in Winnipeg. Aside from the sandwich meats they have the added bonus of bagels and lox (good luck finding better in Winnipeg) and a full menu of delicious food. More...
Excellent food... good service. Try the Reuben.
Excellent food! They have a large menu full of comfort food dishes. The staff are friendly and very attentive.

If you know what you like best deli restaurant in the city
First visit the Bernstein omelette with superb
Great food good service
amazing Soup and sandwiches...
A great deli with excellent Jewish comfort food
Great breakfast spot.
Very nice place for breakfast and brunch. The waitress was very good and fast. The only thing I didn't like was that washrooms are too far from the restaurant.
THE place to go for a good breakfast combo or soup and sandwich lunch! Great location with lots of parking, superb kosher foods, and an adequately karge but homey seating area.
The corned beef melts in your mouth. Amazing sandwiches. Make sure to get the latkes fries.
First time and loved it- totally going to go again and again
This is the best place for a Reuben sandwich that I have ever had. Also the Black Bean and wild rice burger was very good.
Great soups! Corned beef was a bit fatty, but some people like it that way.
First timers at Bernstein's, we had delicious corned beef sandwichs, and we were also treated with a complimentary bowl of borscht from Jason, whom we enjoyed meeting! It was all very good. Thanks again, we will definitely be back! More...
Always amazing food here. Strongly recommend the house made corned beef. It costs a few bucks more but well worth it. Potato latke stacker will fill up virtually anyone and will leave leftovers for most.
Update July 30, 2018We went to Bernstein's today. Same attentive server, and a much improved service and menu. Now most items come with a pickle spear and coleslaw, and the serving size and taste was truly great. We will be back much sooner now! Thank you to the owners for taking customer feedback seriously! Dined there Nov.13, 2017, arrived at 5:45pm. It took 20 minutes for the lone server to ask for drinks and give us the menus. Service was slow and food just okay and overpriced. A full garden salad (lettuce and a trace of tomatoes with a few diced green peppers) is over 5 dollars. The deconstructed bagel and lox (a bagel, cream cheese, lox, tomato slices, onion slices and a few capers) is over 16 bucks. Maybe they just had a bad night, but for what you pay you would hope for better food and faster service. Around us there were lots of unhappy diners, one had a sandwich re done and others had to go to the counter to ask for their food.I hope things will improve, it used to be an affordable deli with home cooked food.Update November 16/17: Jason the deli owner reached out to me and offered an explanation of why service was slow and asked me to correct the salad price (done). It still does not change the experience we had and what we paid for the food. More...
Still great after all these years
Bernstein’s Deli is always my first and last stop in Winnipeg. Latka stackers are a must for breakfast. Housemade corned beef for lunch (the Reuben if youre hungry) with a side of borscht and you will leave happy!
Good service, good food, good atmosphere.
Try the Illegal Curve sandwich! It and everything else is fantastic!
Depending on the time, service can be a bit slow, but from what I have had the few times I have been, well worth the wait. Reasonable prices and a good portion. Thumbs up.. More...
Fabulous food ! Always fast, and friendly.
Good service, fantastic food, a little pricey.
Jewish food and not only. But interior and design very old. And a little bit expensive.
This might be my favourite restaurant in Winnipeg. Definitely for lunch anyways. Been coming here for years and have never left hungry or disappointed.
Very busy place. Always good food. Small grocery store of special foods.
Used to work nearby and have lunch from here often. So many things are so delicious. The egg salad is perfect. The club sandwich is wonderful. The breakfast is incredible and the burgers are delicious. We were in the area so we decided to pop in for lunch. I had a club sandwich in multigrain and it was as good as I remember and my husband had a reuben and says it was very good. He especially liked the spicy mustard in it. The staff were quick and great as I remembered and the prices are still reasonable. More...
So fine. Any time.
Fantastic thick cut & warm corned beef sandwich. Good slaw and potato salad.
Very good food here and service too
Marla makes the best soups from the deli is stocked with everything you can imagine. There is a restaurant there for sandwiches and soups and breakfast. Great food everytime. Menu changes and adapts. Friendly service and a homey feel you can share with the family and friends.
Food was okay but service was great. I love the variety of everything in the deli, and all of the Ready-to-Eat food at the deli counter looked really good. I had the poutine, we asked for extra cheese, but we were told there's lots of cheese on it already, so we got it without extra cheese. There wasn't that much extra cheese we should have gone with extra cheese. Potato latkes were only okay ask for extra crispy but they were very mushy in the middle. Eggs a tad over done. I'm leaning closer to 4 stars then to 3 though but it's a very close 3. More...
Neat little place.. very large & varied menu. The food came quickly and was very good. (Breakfast) the seating is a little too congested for my liking and the booth seating touches your "neighbor" back to back- every time they move you get bumped and shaken. . gets annoying after a while. All in all a great little spot tho. Love all the in-house homemade options. More...
Great Deli. Very busy on weekday lunch. Arrive early. Matsoh Ball soup was great. Potato Latkes were delicious! Attentive service.
Great food, great service with a family atmosphere.
Stopped here to enjoy their contribution to La Poutine Week. Latke fries, beef brisket and bone marrow gravy. Very delicious. I also had a half order of corned beef sandwich, fully loaded. Even the half sandwich was a large portion. Very fresh ingredients and well put together food. Parking lot is full when the restaurant was not. Decor leaves a lot to be desired. Seems very dated and the seating is not overly comfortable. But the food more than made up for this small shortfall. More...
Delicious food from the deli. Got the beef salami and smoked salmon. So good!
I went to pick up some City Rye bread at Bernsteins for my Superbowl party. I decided to grab some cold cuts while I was there. I had several people comment that the roast beef, corned beef, and pastrami was the best they had ever had! I would have to agree. Reminded me of the deli food when I was a kid. It is my new goto for sandwich meats. More...

Delicious food but those booths are so uncomfortable.
Classic un-kosher Jewish deli decent sandwiches and traditional favorites don't go during High business hours however. Service isn't that great then. Other times it's quite good I'll albeit a little pricey. More...
Whenever we are in the area during the day, we go for a quick bite to Bernstein's. Such a good local deli and small grocery store.
Good food, too cramped

Simple, family restaurant. Good food easy atmosphere
My favorite place to enjoy a good pastrami sandwich and a bowl of soup. This joint also has a delicatessen store offering delivery meats and salads made in house.
Came in with a party of four. At 2pm were seated almost immediately. A stroke of good fortune as this place is jumping with people most of the day. Ate the Reuben Deluxe, wow what a masterpiece! Only complaint was 1000 island does NOT belong on a reuben. But the purple cabbage sauerkraut more than made up for it. And the house corned beef is delectable, a revelation of meatiness. Heartily satisfied, warmly recommended. More...
Latkes and Borscht which they have 5 variations to choose from! Comfort food just like my baba would make!

Excellent food and so much variety! Our server Laurie was excellent! Will definitely recommend.
The food is delicious and definitely has that homemade-comfort food feel. There are not many tables, so make sure you are there early during rush eating times!
You know when you are in grade 7, and all the kids call you Fatty Fatty Fat Fat, and you act like you don’t care, but you do care, and you tell your friends that you have a girlfriend, but they know your lying, and also they aren’t your friends anyway? We’ve all been there. But also, remember in grade 7, when every once in a while someone would be nice to you, because of pity, but it didn’t even matter because it was still nice to have someone be nice, and that makes you feel warm inside? Bernstein’s gives me that same feeling. The chopped liver is super awesome. I make sandwiches with the chopped liver and with bread at work, at lunchtime. Everyone is jealous of me because of my lunch at work, and that makes me feel good because nobody is every usually jealous of me at work, or at home. More...
Fantastic food and service!!! We loved the atmosphere and the great staff. Most of all the delicious food!!!
Best breakfast in Winnipeg! Delicious and hearty!
Home made corned beef was a homerun. The matza ball soup, also a classic.
That borscht tho?! Gawd dayum! Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
Broth for the chicken soup was nice and clear, white chunks of chicken, delicious creamy chopped liver, very good latkes. Strong work!
Fantastic breakfast. Jane ( I believe) and the rest of the servers are very nice and quick! Thanks for always having a great breakfast
It has fabulous fresh Jewish foods. The best in the city. You can eat in and take home.
A nice traditional deli with foods to satisfy most diets with hearty servings and friendly service.
Friendly staff, amazing food. Yo have to try the ruben!
Classic neighborhood restaurant. Take out but stay in for lunch.
Delicious food and great service. Eating at Bernstein's is always a treat!

Good food , good portions .
Great sandwichs and coffee. Breakfast is fantastic. Also have a small grocery store
Love this place! A definite go to on Sunday mornings!
Great home made deli and bakery
Tried the shakshuka yesterday. It was delicious, a little bit spicy and quite filling.
I had a bison burger there, really awesome and yummy though it costs a bit more than a regular burger. I decided to try their french fries. Do you remember the way Junior's made fries back in the day? These are just like them but not as greasy. Wow! Thanks Bernstein's. Great place to eat. I also bought some apple jacks when I paid my bill. The service is always great too. More...
Food's good, especially the Reubens but $6 to add a platter which is 1/2 a pickle & 2 little 4oz salads is a little ridiculous. I'll just grab something to go & skip the platter next time. More...

Food is really fresh if you order a sandwich. Prices are a little high though
Excellent food, polite fast and friendly service. House made corned beef is amazing.
Absolutely delicious dishes. Love the traditional diner atmosphere. Great service and friendly staff. Best Reuben in town!
Absolutely loved my visit here. Was excited to see all their offerings and enjoyed the atmosphere and deli itself.
Great home made soup and sandwiches.
Great food, amazing selection of frozen soups !
Large portions, very laid back and casual place

We stopped in here on a whim looking for some food on our way to an appointment. Even though it was 30 mins to closing we never felt rushed to place our order or felt like an inconvenience. Our food came out steaming hot and with a smile by the cook. The flavors were amazing it was real chicken, real turkey and real bacon - in this day in age it's hard to find. Prices, food and customer service was top notch. More...

Absolutely amazing latke! Huge portions. Mozza ball soup! THE quintessential neighbourhood deli.
Le Burger Week special was a killer buttermilk fried chicken sandy
Old school European / Jewish deli. They have added big flat screens so patrons can watch sport events. Not sure it fits, but the upside is that their hours have expanded. Some items can be a bit pricey and come without any sides (sandwiches and burgers mostly) More...
Good food at a good price.
Delicious brunch, always stop at the deli counter for fresh goodies like smoked salmon, perogies and pastrami. Their soups-to-go are great for taking home to the freezer.
Excellent food and fantastic service. Free WiFi and big screen TVs for sports. Definitely recommend this restaurant. I think they might have the best poutine I've ever had and the Reuben sandwich was amazing. Go there, you won't be sorry.
Great deli food.
Great lunch sandwiches with soups and side dishes to go with them. Also hot dishes. The kitchen is within eyesight and you get the sense that your order is well taken care of. My server was sharp and observant and attentive. The attached deli area is where the bill is paid. No hesitations for recommending the place. More...
The best pancakes in Winnipeg Friendly staff great service. Can't wait for it to be reopened from renovations
Borscht is delicious! All the food is - I recommend the Reuben and the kinishes Love the old diner setting as well
We have been wanting to try Bernstein's for some time and finally ventured across the city one Saturday afternoon. Tried the matzo ball soup (half order gets 1 ball, full order gets 2 and is a very large portion). Not bad even though it is only broth, chicken and carrots in the soup. I enjoyed the potato latkes with sour cream and my guest savoured every bite of his house-made, warm corned beef on hand cut rye bread. Only complaint is the staff. It was not busy on this visit yet took more than 10 minutes to get a bowl of soup. Then the young staff sat around at one of the empty tables and proceeded to engage in a discussion about meat slaughtering, blood letting, kosher practices and why one should be a vegetarian. Not exactly appropriate nor appetizing in the presence of customers. More...
So delicious. I visit for breakfast every time I'm in the city. I highly recommend this delicious place to eat!
Love this place. The food is delicious and the staff are amazing people.
We just enjoyed a great lunch/breakfast with fantastic service. We will return!
Thank you Bernstein's Deli for opening so I could get, a loaf of bread, a quart of milk and a stick of butter:) I am grateful
First time at Bernstein's even though a live 2 minutes away. Will be going back more often though. The deli it self has a lot of great options. Went to try their burger for Le Burger Week and it was very good. The chicken was cooked perfect and the slaw and pickles balanced out the breading spices. More...

I have known Bernstein's for years now. I remember when you were located on McPhillips in the little strip mall at the corner of Logan and McPhillips. The meat Knishes were the best!
Delicious Jewish deli, one of my favourite places for breakfast or lunch. Definitely try their Reuben sandwich and bagel with cream cheese and lox.
Had the Reuben, which was delicious. The staff is great.
Not only is the food delicious but Marla makes you feel right at home.
Everything at Bernstein's is so tasty and delicious. The home-cooked feeling from the soups to the sandwiches is front and centre with every bite. Don't miss the matzo ball soup or if you feel daring try the Illegal Curve sandwich. More...

The pancakes. I keep coming back for the pancakes. Light, fluffy, delicious pancakes. So many other places just get it wrong but not here. Did I say super delicious?
spicy grilled cheese was really good. will be back again soon.
I love the breakfast food at Bernstein's. But mostly I love the pancakes. They used to have banana pancakes that were heavenly, now it's carrot cake w/ walnuts and cream cheese. Amazing. The french toast is really good too. If you don't want breakfast, try a hot sandwich like the deluxe reuben or corned beef. I have never had bad service, but I usually try to come before it gets really busy (like around 11am). More...

Loved the corned beef and matzo ball soup! Miss not living in Winnipeg, a true gem
Great omelettes, hashbrowns, and homemade jam with consistently the worst service. Very nice being able to have a place to park which seems to be hard to come by in Winnipeg. Will continue going back for excellent breakfast. More...
My favourite authentic Jewish Deli in Winnipeg. If you're lucky enough to get a seat try the latke stacker. Has always been a local favourite of mine, but in the last few years they have expanded to feature a new menu with some very unique takes on some old world Jewish food.
I've been craving the yogurt parfait since my last visit in July. It was even better than I remembered! My eggs were cooked perfectly! Can't wait to return tomorrow!
always yummy. LOVE the potato pancakes!!!! Even took home some frozen bean and barley soup and an apple jack. Pure bliss !!!
Great homemade style food. Will visit again soon. Lots on the menu. Kind of outdated looking place, but worth a try. Will visit again soon...
Very good thick sliced hot corned beef sandwich. There are 3 different sizes, I ordered the "full" and it was filling enough. Order it with the Dijon mustard.
My favorite deli in Winnipeg! Homemade soups are fantastic, sandwiches are huge and delish , the potato salad is my all time fav! Just wish they were open longer.Don't forget to check out all of their take out foods too , sweets , homemade soups, etc! More...
Best breakfast in the city. Grab some beef and barely soup on the way out too!

Always great.. I have had lunch at Bernstein's numerous times and have always been very pleased. The food is great, service is outstanding and your wallet won't feel threatened. Will be returning soon.
Interesting place. Hidden away in a suburban strip mall is this classic deli experience. We had lunch consisting of Fatoush salad, Falafel pita and the classic Reuben sandwich. Homemade Falafel were excellent but the rest of the pita was not up to the competition such as best pizza donair, shawarma time or sultans shawarma. A solid effort. The Reuben was good, good size and made with care the proportions of ingredients were done right and served hot. Not quite Ira's Deli level of the Reuben sandwich but very, very close. If I was from this neighborhood it would not be worth the effort to travel downtown for that extra bit of taste. The Fattoush salad was interesting and unlike any other salad of this type I have ever encountered. I am not saying it was wrong and it also was certainly made with and presented with care but I will not order that selection again. The salad came in a bowl with no salad in it just tomato, cucumber and green pepper and an enormous amount of deep fried pita chips which is unlike any other salad of this type I have ever had. It was also swimming in what was supposed to be hummus. Falafel pita 6-10 Reuben sandwich 8.5-10 fatoush salad I will have to pass on a rating for it The breakfasts are served all day and the specials change daily so breakfast is going to happen soon. Buttermilk Pancakes. The best ever
First time, was very tasty.. Always seeking out new places to dine and figured we would give this place a chance. A bit surprised to find that its actually part of a small market store. This actually made it seem like an old "neighbourhood" style cafe and I actually ended up buying some nice rye bread. Our meals were very good, and the service matched. I had not had a rueben sandwich quite like this one, the meat cut nice and thick. My dining partner had the Bison Rueban, a rather unique concoction which she really enjoyed. Prices are reasonable, food is great and we could tell there were alot of regulars attending by the way the staff interacted. Give it a try next time you're looking for something a littel bit different. More...
This place rocks!
I really enjoy the new menu. Try the latke stacker when you get a chance.
Best food in the peg!!!
Great breakfast !
Great food and inexpensive! I loved this place and bought some things from the deli afterwards to cook at home. I will be back!
Great Deli!. I go to Bernstein's Deli about twice a month and it is always great! The soup, sandwiches and breakfast are all excellent. Make sure you grab a soup to take home with you... Matzah ball! More...
First time was today and it will not be the last. Amazing food, great service I already cannot wait to go back!!!
Delicious!. Came here yesterday for lunch with a Groupon Coupon. I ordered a Reuben Sandwich and Coleslaw, and my dining companion ordered Pastrami on Challah bread and onion rings. The Reuben sandwich was perfect. A good amount of corned beef, not too much, not too little. I ordered it with plain yellow mustard (instead of the hot mustard) and it was perfect. The coleslaw is how I like it with an oil/vinegar/sugar dressing. My boyfriend enjoyed his sandwich too. The onion rings were really good. This is a good place to come, and if I wasn't craving the Reuben so badly, I would have definitely tried something else. The service was good, and the young girl refilling my water was very attentive! We will definitely be back soon! More...
Just had the latke stacker. It was awesome! Will be back for the warm corned beef!
Bottom line: Unattentive service won't stop me from heading back to try more greasy breakfast items or attempt one of the great looking sandwiches that strolled by. Chicken and waffles (actually blueberry pancakes), was a fantastic combination. The chicken was in very simple, somewhat dry, finger format, but the dish was very satisfying. The latke stackers didn't do it for me.. However, I did enjoy the corned beef on its own. Tasty, albeit pricey, pierogies were good but nothing I would write home about. Service was slow to bring or refill beverages and one server in particular had the 'I don't want to be here and you are inconveniencing me' vibe, however the other staff were quite pleasant. More...
New hot corned beef sandwich is unbelievable. Top notch that's just as good as what you find in NYC.
That's 5 stars for the food, the atmosphere, the people, the works!
Good ol' deli. I have been going to Bernsteins whenever I am in Winnipeg for many years. They have great classics, and recently, some tasty new additions. Some suggestions: Breakfast: try the challah french toast, or if you have time for a food coma, the latke stacker will not disappoint Lunch: grilled chicken caesar sandwich or the cabbage borscht if you're thinking soup. The Reuben burger is also fantastic. Store: get the garlic pita chips and chopped liver on your way out, then check the store hours so you know it won't be closed when you eat it all in about 15 minutes. Enjoy! More...
Great new menu items! Loved the quinoa salad!
This restaurant/grocery store is by far and away my favourite place in Winnipeg to get breakfast and lunch. Their food is both true to the old Deli Style that I have grown to love, and delicious and tasty in new ways. Whatever the person who gave this restaurant a bad review saw, must have been a bad day because this place is fast paced, welcoming, friendly, and awesome. I love it, and I will be back there within the week. More...
My only complaint about this place is that I don't have enough time to go here often enough. Don't tell my mother this, but Bernstein's deli has the best borscht I've ever had! The service was fast, the food was fresh and absolutely delicious. Everything is fairly priced, and worth every single penny. I'll definitely be back again, and again, and again! More...

Breakfast wasn't that great but everything else is delicious!
This is the greatest deli!. I can't get enough of Bernstein's. I go there every time I'm in Winnipeg when they're open. It's better than most delis and a whole lot cheaper. The cabbage borscht is the best. Last visit I had two bowls. I always ask the owner for the recipe and she says she'll only give it to whomever buys her deli. I've also had the latkes and pastrami which are very good. Friends of mine speak well of the perogies. The deli is connected to a butcher shop so they can offer a larger selection than a regular restaurant. I only wish I still lived close enough to Bernstein's to take frozen foods back with me. Decent food.. The floor was littered with trash and most of the tables were dirty - typical Winnipeg diner, in other words. The décor is out of date and the area is shared with a deli, which doesn’t bother me, I’m just sayin’ don’t expect much in the way of ambiance here. I had the chopped liver sandwich made with thick slabs of rye bread, and the cabbage borsht. Both were very good, especially the cabbage borsht which had a ‘mom is here and everything’s okay’ undertone. My husband had the smoked beef sandwich which was also made with the thick slices of fresh rye bread, which he enjoyed, but it was a little skimpy on the meat, and his fries weren’t great. On the way out I bought a jar of full sour pickles and a loaf of rye bread, and all in all, my belly was happy. More...
Great breakfasts.. My husband and I have been going to Bernstein's for breakfast for years. Liz is a treasure (server); Marla (owner) is always a pleasure to deal with; the chef prepares the BEST SCRAMBLED EGGS IN THE WORLD!!!!! It's not a trendy place - but who wants trendy when you can get top quality food, a server with a great sense of humour, a down-to-earth owner who cares about her customers and staff at Bernstein's? And, like I said, the best scrambled eggs NOT just in Winnipeg but in the WHOLE wide world!! What a great place to get the weekend off to a good start! More...
Decent Place. Nothing too special, no frills, just decent sandwiches and soups. Can't go wrong. If you want a small diner type place that serves good sandwiches and soups, stop by here for a quick bite.
Good Food. Wonderful take out! My husband and I buy their take out food all the time. Their chopped liver is wonderful and prices are reasonable compared to other deli-type stores in the area. Would recommend.
SOUP!. They have the most amazing soups! My three top favourites are, 1. Chicken Matza Ball soup 2. Beet Borcht 3. Lentil
Passable But Nothing Special. Overall, I liked this place, but I am in no rush to go back. The decor is pretty basic, nothing wrong with that. When I first entered, the place was slightly more than half full, but all of the empty tables had dirty dishes on them. Within 10 minutes, this was corrected. I sat there for some time before being waited on. The waitress I got was far from friendly or even businesslike. She asked me if I wanted a menu and seemed put out that she had to go back to the kitchen area to retrieve one for me. Shame on me for not knowing the menu before I went. I ordered the Montreal Smoked beef. Curiously, this sandwich is usually served cold at this deli. A fair departure from what I am used to. I took them up on the offer to heat it up on the grill (as opposed to being steamed). This greatly improved the taste. I also ordered a side order of fries. They look home made and looked better than they tasted. They weren't particularly crispy (although they certainly looked the part) and I found them to be a bit mushy. The sandwich was $5. Adding the fries and a can of pop brought my bill to $10.78. While the food was decent, I have a feeling I won't be back. More...
