I am 49 years old and I have been living for 3 years with an under functioning thyroid and peri-menopause/menopause and a number of other symptoms that come and go with disturbing frequency after living most of my life with relative good health. Doctors wanted me to go on a synthetic thyroid hormone, but I wanted to heal my thyroid through lifestyle changes and other supports. I believe that the hormone treatment would just mask the symptoms and leave my thyroid in crisis. It has been a bit of a journey learning to change my diet, get in tune with the messages from my body and make a balanced lifestyle my first priority in life. There were some difficult times as my hormones went through the biggest changes in my year of menopause. I felt I lost ground for a time and struggled to feel like my naturally optimistic, disciplined self But I found Dr Jacqui Fleury to be an incredibly competent, supportive and optimistic guide in this journey. If not for her ability to translate my various test results and symptoms in a holistic way, I know I would have given up before reaching my goal. She also put me in touch with other health care professionals who helped me find effective treatment for one symptom at a time. Now I have come through menopause with a level of overall health that exceeds that with which I entered this challenging period of life. I feel in control of my health. My sense of self has returned this year, as well as my energy. I have a higher overall resiliency than I ever have had. My immune system is strong and I find it easy to maintain a healthy weight, muscle tone and overall sense of well being. I would like to share my story. I found recently I had high liver enzymes. No viral infection or disease could explain those results. I was eating healthy and drinking very occasionaly. So I decided with Dr Fleury to run a Food Sensitivity Test and discovered I was sensitive to many foods. I started this new diet, avoiding those foods, and tested the liver enzymes after 3 months. They were back to normal! But , I have also noticed many other positive changes:I don't have any more hot flashes, my energy level is much better, sleep is better too, mental focus improved, no more back pain and I lost 8 pounds ( and I eat as much as I need).
