I went here for a private function and the food was great. It's a cozy place to have a group gathering. There is a long flight of stairs so keep that in mind for any disabled guests. I'm not sure if there's an elevator or not. Look for this door. More...

We hosted a company wrap up for 35 people It was a great space to mingle, lots of seating and room to dance. The food and drinks were awesome, our group was really excited about the canapes. Participated in a private event.- 4 individual washroom stalls in total - Dark and red-ish interior and lighting- Somewhat difficult to hold conversation due to the music - Skilled and accommodating bartender (drinks were a little pricey)

Stopped in on a Thursday night and there weren't many people so we were able to chat with the bartenders for a bit. They crafted us someOff-the-menu cocktails really tailoring them to our liking. Ray the owner was a great host. We ordered the flatbread with blue cheese & fig which was great and a healthy portion. Not only were the cocktails tasty , The Royal Melbourne and the Smooth Criminal, but he offered us tourists the whole rundown of Vancouver and its neighborhoods. Ive always been a fan of ordering small plates and sharing with my friends, which is one of the reasons I love this bar. The cocktails are great, and one of the bartenders was able to pair my food up with a whisky he recommended. The tapas plates were amazing!! The chef personally brought out the meat plate and explained what was on it. It's a scratch kitchen and the bread was even made there!  I cannot eat gluten so they had tasty crackers for me. My husband enjoyed the bread. One was a sourdough and the other had hazelnuts in it. They were both sliced super thin and toasted. It was such an amazing combination of flavors- raspberries with dried prosciutto, pickled celery, cinnamon pickled pears, duck with dark chocolate spread. I can't even remember what he said everything was, but it was excellent! We then shared the watermelon salad which had tomatoes, pesto, Parmesan cheese and fried basil on it. Incredible!! Following that, we enjoyed the best brisket I have ever had with mashed potatoes rendered in duck fat, pickled carrots and broccoli. OMG!!! So good!!We walked 7 miles that day so we were pretty hungry. The last thing we ate was the cod served with carrots, pea puree, pickled snap peas and pea shoots. The cocktails were also outstanding!!  I had the Victoria's Secret and my husband tried the first cocktail on the menu. It was similar to an old fashioned, but better. Had originally planned to eat/get drinks for my birthday at SIP this past Saturday, however there was a little mixup and double booking so the manager asked if we would consider having our party upstairs at The Refinery instead. I have never been to either place so I didn't mind seeing what it was like and moving my birthday group there for the evening.I am SO GLAD we chose it! The tapaz style food was delicious and filled us all up, and the cocktails were amazing. (us girls recommend the Victoria Secret).The lovely manager also gave us complimentary meat and cheese platters due to the mix up, which was absolutely amazing and excellent customer service. The waitress (blonde.. sorry I am bad with names) was very fun and friendly, and served us perfectly as well.The décor was very Gastown-esq which my group commented on being very nice.The girls in my group also wanted to give their compliments to the DJ as the music was great all night.The only "con" was that there was no whip cream when my friends wanted to buy me muff divers! hahah.I will definitely be back one day.:) Thank you for making my birthday great!! I am such a sucker for a great cocktail list!  It was a struggle to settle on one drink because they all sounded amazing. I asked the server a plethora of questions about how fruity/refreshing/strong/bold the drinks were and she answered them with great detail . There is nothing I love more than a sever who is well educated about everything on the menu (that, and a great cocktail of course!) The Smooth Criminal would be my recommendation! This place has a great feel to it. It keeps elements of the buildings history while adding it's own modern and classy touch. The food is almost all made from scratch and rotates depending on the season. We tried the Duck Wings and Pork & Octopus. Amazing service. Booked a reservation here for a birthday party consisting of around 30 people. The refinery was extremely accommodating and the guy who I talked to on the phone to set up the reservation was so nice. The set up was perfect and exactly what I was looking for. Came here for a get-together with some old coworkers and I had an awesome experience.My friend and I ordered the meat and cheese board and it was delicious! My other friend ordered something with chorizo and potatoes and the flavour was amazing. I loved the atmosphere here - one half was more quiet where you can sit and talk whereas the other side was a bit louder for mingling. I asked if they could make a sangria since it wasn't on the menu and I loved it! However, my two friends ordered 2 cocktails that were pretty up there in price, but weren't the tastiest.... Came here for a dine out and really enjoyed the experience. The staff was extremely friendly and attentive (water glasses rarely were empty), the food was quick and it was definitely a good deal at $18 for the 3-course. The penny floor is beautiful, and I spent a lot of my time marvelling over it. The other thing I noticed is that there was no elevator. I was sporting a pretty hawt baby bump at the time, so the stairs had me huffing but it was still doable. Had such a great time here, had to cone twice during my trip in Vancouver. The bartender Tyler is awesome! His drinks definitely made the experience. The first night we came a bit late so we only stayed for a couple drinks. I tried the Whippersnapper, awesome drink. The bartender invited us back the next night to get the full experience of all the different drinks. After not being able to get a seat at the Shameful Tiki Room, we decided to come here.This time we left it up to the bartender to make us drinks. We each had several drinks and shots. I may say that none were disappointing. Every drink we had was amazing.
