Dog Training

My wife and I own two small MIKI dogs. One is about 2years old and the other one year old. They have proven to be hard to train for the usual basic commands as they are not food motivated.
We reasoned that if the pair could spend some time with an experienced dog trainer, they would be more responsive to our direction. Diamond Touch Dog Rehabilitation Centre (DTDRC) has several glowing 5 star reviews and claims to have received recognition from various organizations. We decided to bring our dogs to the facility for a week and specified that we wanted basic training but done in a positive manner.
After picking up our two pets we were astonished at the results, none of them positive.
First, the animals were filthy and required several baths to restore them to normal appearance. Much worse, the older dog was caked in faces near his tail. My wife had to ask for access to a wash sink to try to clean up the mess before we could leave for home. Upon cleaning this dog at home, we discovered that the anus was beet red and required some antibiotic treatment for a few days.
It appeared that the dogs were traumatized as neither one wanted to play and run as they always do. The older one refused to be picked up by neighbours who had often provided loving care while we were out for a few hours. He showed great anxiety and wanted to stay close to my wife as much as possible.
As to any basic commands, we cannot see that either dog has learned anything.
We refrained from writing this review for about a week to ensure the dogs were recovering physically and mentally from their ordeal. We are glad to report they have almost fully recovered.
Had we known the outcome of a week at DTDRC we would certainly not have arranged it. Despite all of the positive reviews on the website, we stand behind our review and caution any owners of small dogs to move carefully when considering this business.

We are sorry to hear about J's response. We do offer a money back guarantee, However, the time period of the offer has expired. One of the requirements was that the dogs be good around other dogs, they wer around a golden retriever, a Labrador poodle mix, a bearded collie as well as 2 pugs and a papillion. Not sure where the tramotizing comment is coming from as they were fine here and with others that came to visit us. They were very affectionate, frequently cuddling up. The sticking around his wife and not him, she said it was normal, they showed no anxiety around either my wife or myself. When they were picked up they were playing with my Golden retriever and the Labrador/Poodle mix in our back yar, big improvement from when they first came, they didn't want to be around any dogs. ,

I’ve had Diamond Touch for about a year and half. My dog (Mr Wiggly ) was very anxious and would pull on the leash. It was almost impossible to walk him. Now he is like a different dog all because of David’s training. I would recommend David’s daycare to everyone More...

I have had David and family working with my rescue dog Max for about 5 years now. Max loves The daycamp with the other dogs and runs with great excitement to the door when he hears the van pull up. David has been amazing with Max and is always available even on short notice. Max gets along with the other dogs well and comes home exhausted after play days. I have made referrals to friends who are so happy they have David in their pooches lives now and have seen an improvement with issues the dogs were having. I highly recommend David! Five stars!!! David has cared for my dog over the last 10 years. Darby loves going there like it's a second home ! He is well socialized with the other dogs and has learnt so much under David's care

The first time David met our 2 mini Schnauzers there was an obvious rapport between him and the dogs…they instantly behaved for him. David’s manner is calm, soft spoken, yet firm, and our dogs responded very positively to him. Each visit our dogs were always excited to see David and would happily leave with him. Upon returning home they would sit at the French doors watching David leave. I believe David has a special way with dogs and regarding myself, he was a pleasure to deal with. More...

Almost 10 years ago, we hired David Diamond to help us teach our very possessive Giant Alaskan Malamute puppy to share, and also to teach my husband and I that we own and control everything, including the door. Let's face it, it is the humans who need the training! It was very helpful and we recommend the Diamond Touch to help you and your dog to learn good manners! More...

Q&As

Working with problem dogs and seeing them transformed into well balanced dogs.

I worked with a wheaten poodle that was fearful of dogs and people. After working with myself and the other dogs, she transformed from a fearful dog to a party girl, making sure she played with all 7dogs I had with us on the off leash mountain trail.

I also worked with a maremma sheepdog he was aggressive towards people and other dogs. I worked with him and his owner on those issues. and when we were finished, he was playing with 25 other dogs in an off leash dog park. His owners mother did not believe that that was the same dog. She insisted on coming the following week to make sure. She found out, much to her glee, that her daughter's dog was happy to be playing and not aggressive towards other dogs.

There are many other success stories, too numerous to share. In short I love working with dogs.

Boredom. So I went to the dog proud and offered to work on of their dogs so they gave me a small dog. They brought out a teenage Rottweiler who was 11 months old that was around 110 llbs. Who had no training. So I took him for a walk and trained him not to pull on the leash, slowing down on uneven pavement, steep inclines and stairs. Now all of that means nothing unless you have a little toddler holding the leassh or you have balance issues. I've lost ttrack of how many people lament that their dog pulls on leash and because of that, they've gotten injured.

Unlike other trainers I've yet to tell a client that their dog is a lost cause. They tell the person this after they've taken their money. Also I don't charge exorbitant prices for my work.

No. I prefer to work with the client's in person.

I work outdoors generally just with the dog so no humans are in danger. Also I wash my hands frequently and sanitize any leashes I work with just as often.
