I love working out with Matthew. He pays a lot of attention to my form when I work out, which helps me avoid injury and unnecessary strain. Now that we have been concentrating on correct form for a while, he is making the workouts more challenging. He is an excellent fitness instructor! My husband and son also work out with Matthew and we are all very happy! I am 64 and my husband is 67 and my son is 32. Matthew knows how to plan workouts for each of us based on our individual physical conditions. I have back issues and he knows which exercises I should and should not do. He interrupts me if he sees me using an incorrect form that could worsen my back issues. He is very attentive to detail. He is also very friendly and personable! I look forward to training with Mathew and am proud of my progress under his expert guidance!

I do strength training workouts from a small home gym, and set up my phone camera with Mathew once or twice a week. Mathew is knowledgeable, and makes the workout fun and just the right amount of challenging. I have been training with him for 10 weeks, and I can both see improvements in my performance of each exercise (I am reaching higher weights and getting better at the motion/muscle memory) and all of the exercises he chooses are targeting my physique goals, too (I feel the difference in my body after 10 weeks).

We typically do 3 sets of 8-12 for the main portion of the workout. At the end of each set he explains how to tweak the movement to make sure I am hitting the target muscle properly. With his guidance I am able to lift more than when I workout alone, even though the training is virtual and he’s not spotting me, I feel safer because I’m confident in how well he is attentive to my form and he would verbally correct me (or tell me to stop if necessary) in order to prevent injury.

Mathew keeps me on track with my progress with a really easy to read spreadsheet, so I know what my workout will be before I join the call. He clearly demonstrates how to do each exercise when it’s new, and pinpoints how to improve my performance as we go (and he’s right every time - his seemingly minor corrections in what to focus on or how to move make a huge difference in the effectiveness/how I feel during the exercise).
In each session Mathew reminds me how much I was able to lift the previous time. He knows exactly when to encourage confidence that I can handle more weight, and at the same time can recognize when I need to pull back (or how to modify a move to finish when I’m tired) and never pushes me beyond what I can do.

The workouts he plans for each session are similar enough that I’m gaining confidence in a bit of routine and how to set up my equipment for the day, but different enough to keep them interesting. He is adaptable to plan my training session around any other workout routine I might do on my own/outside of training.
And lastly, I joke with him, many of the moves he chooses (particularly for abs) he has names for them that are very “Canadian” (lumberjack and canoe….)
I highly recommend working with Mathew if you want to have a good time, enjoy your exercise while having productive and safe workouts that you’ll notice your progress.

I want to start off by telling you that if your looking for a personal trainer don’t look any further. Mathew is your guy. I was always unsure of hiring a personal trainer at home over zoom till I started working with Mathew. I unfortunately came into the issue where all the gyms were closed and I was unsure of where and how to do it on my own. Also having the motivation to keep going is very hard as well. That’s when I decided to search for a personal trainer. I was not disappointed to say the least. He is very professional, patient and listens to help you the best way he can. If you are unable to make it to a session due to an emergency he is very understanding. He will assign the workouts based on your lifestyle and with you to ensure the best success rate possible. It’s also nice to have someone to help step by step as you learn different moves safely and efficiently. First and foremost is getting to know you; what are your goals, likes/dislikes and any previous issues or chronic pains that we need to take into consideration and/or address. With this information I can make a workout program that is tailored to you and not some one size fits all. From there we hop straight into; I make sure to teach my clients the proper technique for all the exercises we cover as it is important both to prevent any potential injuries but also you won't be benefiting as much from an exercise if you are compensating. As we build that base of knowledge I will motivate and challenge you to not only achieve your goals but surpass them.

Enjoying the exercise you do and the food you eat. Consistency in both of these areas is essential to achieve your fitness goals whether they be aesthetic or health. I personally believe that it is better to focus on getting stronger and challenging yourself rather than focusing on a number as a scale does not provide proper context. By focusing on getting stronger and eating better I can guarantee you will certainly feel better but you will reach your fitness goals with a better mentality and faster.

I love seeing my clients simply feeling better. What I mean by this is not only are they stronger but more importantly they are more confident and proud of themselves. In my personal opinion the mental health benefits of exercise far exceed the physiological benefits. Feeling strong and doing something for yourself are really powerful sentiments; it helps you walk a little taller and take pride in yourself.

I have been playing sports from a young age and more importantly have been doing weightlifting for more than a decade. I have helped out numerous friends and strangers at the gym with making programs and exercise technique and found it to be very rewarding as well as quite good at it.

My goal is not just to train with you but rather to teach you and have you adopt exercise you enjoy into your lifestyle. I want you to continue working out and exploring new activities that you enjoy whether it be with or without me. I really just want to help as many people get into exercise as possible; it has do ne so much for myself I am eager to share it with others.

Yes, absolutely. A majority of my clients are online so I am well adept at training clients virtually. I do also provide in person training however only in the Montreal area.

As mentioned in the previous questions, a majority of my clients are online and as such do not have to leave the comfort and safety of their home to get in a great workout. With respect to in-person clients, I offer at home training as well as in gyms. I make sure to take all precautions necessary to insure the wellbeing of my client and myself.
