Touted as "Victoria's best BBQ" - you'll find it online on their website and even through word of mouth on the street. And the best part is. .. they ain't lying.Jones BBQ is the stuff of legend. Wars have been waged between kingdoms throughout the ages for a claim to the pork butt that can be found only here! The Valkyries will descend from the skies swiftly and take those have sought out the BBQ of Jones and tasted it's meats to Valhalla! Word will be passed down from children to grandchildren for the next 1000 years so that families may feast together at this great place! Songs will be sung in the great halls of men for eternity about the fatty brisket and perfectly fried chicken!In all seriousness, this is probably Victoria's best BBQ. On the three occasions that I've visited Jones', the meats have been succulent and the perfect balance of fattiness and toughness. I've ordered the pork butt sandwich on all three occasions and I can tell you that the pork butt sandwich has never disappointed me and I don't believe it will fail to do so for the rest of my life. $8.50 never tasted so good. Never.On two of my three visits, I've ordered 1/2 lb of the brisket which came with a generous amount of pickle slices (which I appreciated very much). The brisket always came out hot and full of flavour which wasn't overpowering - they got it just right. The pickles also were not too sour to the point of making your eyes squint. Same with the coleslaw that comes inside the pork butt sandwich. They do veggies right here at Jones - just the right amount of ingredients in each element to add unique flavours to the mix. Another thing that I really appreciated, especially about the pork butt sandwich, was the toasted bun that added a beautiful, light crunch to every bite which was absolutely heavenly. Everything eaten together, I'd say that Jones BBQ, especially the pork butt sandwich, is definitely more than the sum of it's parts. Don't miss out on the hidden gem that is the pork butt sandwich. And eat it while it's hot!The only reason why I'm not giving Jones BBQ a five-star review is because on the third occasion I ordered a brisket taco which, for the price, didn't seem like a bad idea. Unfortunately, the brisket was fairly dry, so I'm not sure what went wrong in the preparation of the meat for the taco when the brisket by the lb comes out juicy and full of flavours. I thought the taco brisket would be held to the same standard. I mean, it was an okay taco, but it could have been great. The pickled radish and other garnishes gave it a bit of a nice kick, but I expected the meat to be the star of the dish, like in every other dish.Although I live in Vancouver, I eagerly await the next occasion that I can travel to Victoria, so that I may reunite with Jones' once again. I personally don't know any other similar places in town, and my experience with any southern styled barbecue places is quite limited. I do like their smoke brisket and ribs, it's juicy, satisfying and flavorful.You could argue that the price is a bit high (and I don't disagree with that), but given that this IS Victoria, we just have to pay a big premium for any decent food. Tender meat, tasty, cool place and great staff. Pit Beans are a must try, sweet, tangy. Giving Jones and extra 1/2 round up from 3. 5 given it’s a bar above most of the BBQ in Vic/BC. If you’ve never had a pit master BBQ and you like good tender tasty BBQ you can’t go wrong here. Agree with the sentiments from others about the smoke rings being on the smaller side and it would benefit from an injection of extra flavour (given comparison to other proper BBQ). Update: a recent visit has me updating. The staff/hostess was delightful and with 5 of us, I got to sample several offerings. They were all very good. There are lineups and they do run out so be prepared. I would return.I want to love this place but so far? Not so much and I haven't eaten here yet. A friend recommended it and I was looking for a spot for hubbys birthday so I called on the Friday. Yup-they will be open Labour Day Monday and yup they can handle a group. After the phone call I email with details to confirm and organize 18 people to show up. Receiving no response to the email, I stop by on Sunday. "We're not open Monday". Argghhh. While it is a bit pricier than my experience with bbq in the US, it is usuallyt great quality food. My kids had the fried chicken sandwiches and they were too much for either of them to finish. On my last visit here I had the brisket and the chicken thighs. The brisket was perfectly done, but the chicken thighs were a bit dry (which really surprised me). At $6 for two small thighs, this did leave me feeling less impressed than I have been on other visits, but I will definitely eat here again to see if this was a one off. More...

These guys put on a show for a special event we had yesterday. All of the staff worked very hard and it all went off seamlessly. Alibi Catering saved our wedding! After our original venue/caterer closed down unexpectedly a month before our wedding, we thought it would be impossible to find a caterer on such short notice. The guys at Alibi were incredible Chris and Jax were great to work with and listened to everything we wanted.The food was amazing. Alibi provided a variety of canopes, tacos, sliders, salads, and doughnuts! Quite simply, if the scents from the smoker do not get you coming in, then you must not be a fan of bbq! Tried the beef (this was very sweet) and the chicken.
