Reading & Writing comprehension
My methodology for teaching English is through a very creative and structured approach. I help my students visualize the concepts and understand the why behind them in order to better their long term abilities. This is done through many different techniques such as book reports, play writing, poetry etc... I also do grammar review throughout the semester to keep the student on track.
Each student has an individualized method that I work on with the child. I try to get all students excited about reading and want to read outside of class.
Some things you can expect from my time with tutoring (these may not apply to all children):
- Comprehension strategies including dictionary skills. Vocabulary development.
-Decoding ( phonemic awareness)
-Fluency & Vocabulary development (pronunciation with reading, getting comfortable with understanding the text and irregular words)
- Sentence construction and cohesion (connecting ideas within and between sentences, syntax)
-Reasoning and background knowledge (pulling out meaning "reading between the lines", making connections between new knowledge and existing knowledge)
- Using games to help navigate reading difficulty
