We’ve been living in our house for 10 years now and have only used our backyard once - for our housewarming party. With the unusable design, and challenges growing anything but moss, we just didn’t want to spend time out there, and redoing things always felt like too big a task. We finally decided to tackle the yard this year and, after meeting with many landscapers, hired Russell for his knowledge, enthusiasm and amazing, responsive communication. In only a few short weeks, he completely transformed the space to make it completely usable and safe. What he accomplished was nothing short of amazing. Honestly, we weren’t sure how he would be able to handle such a large job mostly on his own, but he blew us (and our neighbours) away. He and Kristin were so friendly and responsive throughout the process and worked with us as our initial plans evolved (as we increased the scope of work..). Russell has an incredible eye for detail and design, and takes the time to plan his work to make sure it’s done right and to the highest standards. We are elated with the outcome and can hardly wait for our new grass to take so that we can start using the space. We’ll miss seeing his smiling face at the house, our 2 year old most of all as she has become a huge fan. We absolutely recommend him and Island Roots for any outdoor project you may have. My husband and I had a horrible backyard. It consisted of dead branches, weeds, broken construction materials/tires, and was uneven and treacherous. We wanted it completely redone, a space we could enjoy with our one-year old daughter. We contacted many landscaping companies, and got roughly ten quotes. Russ was the most reasonable, and the most knowledgeable; he was able to complete all the work himself, from the fence/gates to the irrigation/sod/gravel, rather than subcontracting the work like some proposed. We hired Russ and never looked back! He worked weekdays and the occasional weekend, and was professional and informative. Kristin communicated promptly, and made us aware of the cost as we went along, so we were not surprised with a big overblown bill at the end. We are now proud owners of a beautifully irrigated lawn, productive veggie boxes, and a playground with pea gravel where our daughter can safely play. I just want to give a HUGE shout out to Island Roots Landscaping- my clients (who have a 1 week old baby and a listed house) inadvertently hired an inexperienced person with little work ethic to install SOD and landscape their yard (which was supposed to be completed by Tuesday)- Russ at Island Roots has really stepped up- he`s stepped up in this weather to fix the job & do it right! I can`t recommend him enough!
