UPDATE: After discussing the issue and our displeasure with the Gitano team (see initial review below) it is clear that a simple misunderstanding was at play. We were very satisfied with their responses to our concerns. They promptly and thoroughly addressed every one of our complaints and generously offered to remedy any and all issues we had. At the end of the day I would not hesitate to recommend Gitano to anyone.---
INITIAL REVIEW:
We had agreed to hire Gitano last week to replace our roof, where we had explicit and specific instructions about not scheduling the job until AFTER Aug 23rd. Prior to replacing the roof, we were planning for a mold specialist to inspect the attic (we previously had a leak) to see if there was more damage requiring more layers of the roof to be removed.First surprise: Even though we did not have a scheduled date, Gitano's suppliers immediately dumped shingles on our front lawn, and some other supplies on our front path. We were heading out of town for several days, so I moved the cardboard cartons into our mudroom so they wouldn't get soaked if it rained while we were gone.
Second surprise: Upon returning from our trip on Aug 19th, we find the shingles and materials gone, a section of front lawn pulled up, and our backyard furniture moved (table stacked on top of our coffee table, lawn chairs unstacked). Turns out that against our very specific instructions, Gitano's team came and replaced our roof! So not only did they trespass on our property while we were out of town and prior to our home inspection, we are now on the hook for $4000+ job that we did not authorize, and we are beholden to them if we are to rely on them for the 15-year warranty. Our roof was in bad shape with multiple patches being done to builder shingles by previous owners. I had to get the roof patched the same year I moved in but started hunting for a company that was fairly priced and that had good reviews on here based on previous customer experiences. The written quote process was effortless and lots of great material was provided for light reading on the process that they follow to get the work done. The shingles that they recommended was based on their years of experience on how they held with their past customers. Couldn't be happier with their service and will highly recommend them. After hearing so many horror stories from those who have had bad experiences with the "cheapest tender"-- I went with one of the best teams on Homestars. Booked new roof work about 5 months in advance (when weather would permit) and was contacted right on time. Roof was a little tricky to work with but after inspecting well they came and did the job professionally and within 2-3 days. I had a couple of shingles blow off my roof (very small job), and Chris came down within a few hours of us speaking on the phone. He replaced them at a reasonable rate (compared to some other companies I called). He did a roof inspection while he was at it , and fixed some extra shingles that he found were not sitting right. In November 2016, Gitano replaced our roof (and all the plywood) and sistered one of the joists. The crew was great and left everything clean and well-swept. A couple of weeks later, I asked Lewis about one of the shingles which appeared to be raised*. He said that it would flatten out once it got warmer. And it did - perfectly.

I had a nasty leak on my side of the roof (a semi-detached house) and had new neighbors who just purchased the other half. I hoped they would cooperate and do their side too. Gitano's was one of 3 quotes I got and shared with those neighbors - they did the same. We both were happy with the quote and with the professionalism of Gitano's owners so that was our choice. The date was set, they came on time, removed the old shingles, checked out the roof deck and proceeded to install the new shingles. I had questions on some issues with the old roof which they looked into and gave me input before they started the new roof. It was done so fast, and they were so tidy and pleasant to work with. I love that after a few months, they provide a drone video so I as homeowner get to see first-hand how it is standing up. What a great service! And overall, what a great experience. I live in a semi-detached home, and my neighbours were unwilling to replace their roof at the same time as my wife and I. Gitano assured us it wouldn't be an issue, and gave us a very fair price . I'm delayed in writing this review - we've had the roof for 9 months now - but I'm glad I waited, because I can say that so far we haven't had a single issue with our new roof.We live in area that can occasionally get very windy, and I haven't seen any shingles come off our roof, which used to happen frequently with our old roof.The installation crew was quick, communicated well when the weather was bad, and cleaned up after themselves. We did not know if we needed our roof redone and called Gitano to get an estimate for the work of replacing it, if it was needed. Slavik was very friendly and professional, arrived on time and walked us around the roof explaining his assessment. He was very honest and informative and said we did not need a new roof for another few years. Then, he answered all of our other questions. We hired Gitano Roofing to replace our roof about a year and a half ago. We interviewed several roofing companies, and felt comfortable with Gitano's product, pricing, and warranty. I am happy to say that they did not disappoint! They stripped the old shingles down, fixed several holes in the roof, installed a membrane and new shingles on top. The project took 1 day. They protected our property with tarps and cleaned up spotlessly after. We have small kids and we did not find anything dangerous on the ground after Gitano were done. I hired Gitano Roofing to replace asphalt shingles on my entire house in October 2017. It was a busy season for their crew so the installation took a few visits over several weeks to finish, but the roof was adequately protected during the lag periods. The waterproofing protection did blow off once, but I called their office asap and they came quickly to cover the exposed plywood. When the installation was complete, they had left some construction material in the front lawn, but were quick to come by and pick things up when I called them. The gutters were very clean. I found only a few nails and shingle wrapping around the house, but generally clean. During the windstorm in early May of 2018, some of the shingles on the ridge cap came off the roof. I called Gitano and they were very prompt in coming by to patch repair, and only asked for a charitable donation of any amount I wished to contribute. They provided photos of the repair to confirm that the roof was repaired. I found their service to be reliable and would recommend their service. More...

Overall, I am pleased with the service and price I received for a re-shingle job on our 12 yr old roof. The initial visit from their rep was informative and honest, and the quote was spelled out very clearly. Since installation, two follow-up visits for small repairs (following significant weather events) were quick and covered under warranty without question.
Pros: one of the better prices of the 5 companies I had chosen; the owner is very hands-on (he answered a call for repair on a Sunday night, sending a crew out early the next day); good product selection; professional initial home visit and quote; all the employees have been polite and courteous, and crews were very respectful of our property and that of our neighbours.
Cons: start of job was late by a few days (but I was compensated); crew underestimated the length of job, so work went quite late; although the crew cleaned up most of the mess, a fair bit was left in the dark after the job (however, a second clean up crew was sent right away upon request).Overall, I am pleased with the work and would recommend Gitano for any roofwork. While this year's late spring and wind storms were a major head ache, Lewis and his team at Gitano Roofing came through with flying colours stripping, re-shingling, and providing a new ridge vent for my rear roof, which was very near the end of its lifetime. The quotation was done promptly- at a fair price, while the delivery of the shingles and the day of the actual work were communicated clearly in advance, allowing me time to communicate with my tenants about vehicle relocation. The clean-up was excellent, and I didn't pay a penny until the work was completed, and only after they had asked for my feedback.
