Q&As

That we get to speak to people like they are human, and get to know every facet of their life. A lot of things we don't think about are still part of the journey and we can make incredible change through trust.

There are too many people suffering in silence and we needed a dedicated space to openly communicate about female health, wellness and lifestyle.

Services

Our team of social workers and psychotherapists are trained in the act of psychotherapy (talk therapy), and may be covered by your insurance as either ‘social worker’ or ‘psychotherapy’. The challenge with talk therapy is that…. you have to talk. And often that is the biggest barrier to seeking mental health support. We don’t often want to admit that we need it, and it can be very difficult to open up about the issues we are struggling with. That is why we hired the most compassionate and understanding people to join our team. We understand that you are going through a lot, so we don’t put any more pressure on you. And you may be coming to us for a variety of reasons so we are here to listen, at your pace.

If you are someone with a chronic illness and/or chronic pain, the world is never going to change for you. An occupational therapist helps work through your limitations compared to an able bodied person, looking at adjusting your behaviors, motivations, environment, and way of thinking about your body and your way of life. In other words, an occupational therapist helps set up your life in a way that helps conserve your spoons while achieving the most occupations.

In Christina and Carine’s practices, they combines Traditional Chinese Medicine and the biomedical approach to give patients the most effective care. This isn’t about a quick fix, it is about a dedicated long-term solution: to target the root cause and gently bring the body back to balance.

We take an active approach to physiotherapy – helping you discover the tools you need to learn about your body and move comfortably so that you can feel confident in managing your symptoms outside of the clinic. Our physiotherapists use hands-on approaches to help facilitate movement, provides activity/exercise counselling, integrates pain education into your care, and works to create a collaborative client-therapist relationship. At Femade, while the practice of Physiotherapy is generally consistent across any clinic in Ottawa, our practitioners take on a mind-body approach that not only helps being awareness to the pain signals to and from the brain to the body, but helps you become more mindful of your movements. Understanding that the pain sensations can be coming from one or a variety of locations, from an accident or an illness, growth, and development, our physiotherapists take the time to understand the body as a whole, and work to strengthen the body by incorporating gentle movements.

Both Madison and Silvia both take the time to understand all elements of your pain, and your comfort level. It is crucial that we not rush you into an internal exam until/unless you are ready to pursue that level of physical examination.

The muscles of the pelvic floor are very important in maintaining core stability, proper breathing and posture, as well as the support of pelvic organs. Our pelvic floor physiotherapists take a broad approach, focusing not only on the pelvic floor muscles but the nerves that supply them and the organs that are located within the pelvis. A pelvic floor therapy session takes place 1:1 with your therapist and is 100% at your own pace and comfort level. Both of our physiotherapists are trauma-informed.

Naturopathic medicine is precisely how it sounds: a take on medicine and wellness from a natural perspective. Naturopathic doctors are thoroughly trained in the body’s systems, and even more so, how the body produces molecules, changes over time, and communicates health and disease to us. This is why Naturopathic doctors truly understand how to give the body what it needs, without introducing chemicals that might bring on a host of side effects and unwanted changes.

1. Some reasons why you might seek a naturopathic doctor:

2. You are tired of using pharmaceuticals, or looking to add some healthy options to your lifestyle

3. You need more control over your hormones and how it is affecting your body, along with other organs that might be talking to the endocrine system.

4. You need to get a handle on some of these unwanted gut symptoms such as diarrhea or constipation, bloating, flatulance, and unpredictable patterns.

5. You are eager to lose weight and want some nutritional and lifestyle advice

6. You’re tired - tired of searching for answers and tired of advocating for yourself.

Sometimes what brings you to a naturopathic doctor is your flair for the natural. Other times you’re at the end of the road and need a different perspective and some new tools. Whatever the case may be, you’re in good hands.
