We ate at Dickie-Baxter last night and were extremely surprised at the quality and taste! The steak was cooked perfectly, the potato hash was classic with a twist and even the broccoli was cooked to perfection. We have only positive comments regarding the food, service and overall experience at dinner Saturday, July 30th. It was a special 40th anniversary treat for our best friends. Three of us chose the specials of salmon and scallops, and the fourth opted for the chowder and salad. We shared the mussels as an appetizer. Even desserts met or exceeded our expectations. We had an amazing lunch post 3 hr hike on ocean floor and had the back patio to ourselves where could view our dogs in AC while we grabbed a quick bite. On the approach to the pub, you can really tell they made an effort. On the spring day I visited, the flowers were blooming and the tables out front inviting. The interior of the pub, while not large, is amazingly airy and spacious, with plants in the rafters above adding to the atmosphere. The staff are friendly and the service fast. The chowder was amazing! Well worth the detour to Canning, highly recommended. More...

Wendy reserved a table for our 30th Anniversary. We were greeted at the door by Clare and our waitress Taylor. There were specials on the board for the day as well as the menu. I chose the Maple Salmon with a warmed Spinach salad. Thank you Taylor for salad option. The taste was every bit as good as the presentation. Great job to the chef and those in the kitchen doing the preparation. All of the dished coming from the kitchen looked wonderful. We will return. Wonderful food and amazing staff! A must visit. We had the opportunity to dine here last night to celebrate a good friend’s birthday. From the minute I walked in the door the staff anticipated my needs and exceeded them. Our server was Katrina and she made our evening relaxed, flawless and fun. We were lucky enough to grab a last minute reservation last Friday night. We were down from Ottawa visiting my parents, and I suggested the Dickie-Baxter after seeing the amazing food pics posted online. Greeted by cheerful waitstaff, we were quickly seated. The whole menu sounded delicious - it was definitely hard to decide! The highlight for us was the chowder- the flavour & seasoning was so fresh and simple- my parents had already heard rave reviews by word of mouth, and we were not disappointed! The rest of our mains were all wonderful, easy to tell Chef Wayne is very experienced and exceptionally talented in what he creates. We were lucky to have a quick hello from Wayne- so great to see you after all these years- thanks for taking the time on a busy night! So happy to see this special gem of a spot flourishing, such a great asset to the town of Canning. Thanks for the wonderful meal, and friendly, smiling service!
