What do you love most about your job?
Creating connections with clients that make them feel safe, heard, comfortable, and motivated to put the work in to better themselves.
What inspired you to start your own business?
I am passionate about advocating and being an ally to the marginalized groups in society, such as those with developmental disabilities, Mental Illnesses, and more. I value equitable services, so that each person is given the tools they need to succeed.
Why should our clients choose you?
I am an energetic, outgoing person, who loves to have fun. I complete the activities with my clients, and allow them to get to me as well. We use the "buddy system" at B.E.A.D.S., so that clients are confident in who they are confiding in and relying on.
Can you provide your services online or remotely? If so, please add details.
We can! It is easiest to provide B.E.A.D.S. services in person, however, for long distance or social anxiety, we can accommodate virtual sessions. We recommend being prepared to print worksheets and hangouts off, when applicable to complete activities.
What changes have you made to keep your customers safe from Covid-19?
Staff are required to wear masks at all times on shift. Each of the materials used, as well as high touch services are sanitized between sessions. Wherever possible, we keep client materials separate from others, to ensure that they are the primary, and only users.
Behaviour Management
Behaviour Analysis is the science of behaviour, that encourages socially important behaviour changes.
Socially Significant
Observable/Measurable
Consists of a Cause/Effect Investigation
Emotional Regulation
B.E.A.D.S. supports individuals to work through emotions by learning how to explore, identify and understand them. We assist our clients to work through various experiences and scenarios to learn how to manage our emotions appropriately, through conversation, role playing, games and activities, and self-reflection exercises.
Social Skills
B.E.A.D.S. encourages individuals to expand their social skills and strengthen relationships of all kinds through verbal and non-verbal communication, and the understanding of different types of relationships. Social skills that can be worked on include, but are not limited to, conversation skills, multiple party participation and interests, turn taking, sharing, and reading and understanding body language.
Life Skills
B.E.A.D.S. fosters independence through the development of life skills. A life skill is anything that adds to the functionality of an individual’s life, from creating a DIY recipe book, folding laundry, money management skills, community and road safety and awareness, and much more. Each life skill goal is approached and taught in a step by step manner, appropriate to the level of the individual’s comprehension levels and participation ability.
Motor Skill Development
B.E.A.D.S. values an individual’s ability to move their body freely and be aware of how their body works. We work with our clients to improve range of motion through various approaches, including song and dance, mirroring exercises, stretching, and functional tasks such as pushing and pulling objects, completing intricate arts and crafts, and more.
Sensory Involvement
B.E.A.D.S. incorporates sensory times to allow an individual to explore various textures. Sensory activities can be used to alleviate stress, process information and experiences, promotes mindfulness and problem solving, and improves an individual’s emotional state. Sensory play will be included through sensory bins, and the making of sensory items.
