Q&As

It's a privilege to sit with clients during a therapy session and witness their personal growth over time. I care deeply about my clients and their wellbeing.

I prioritize creating a safe space for you to be vulnerable and explore your emotions in a judgement free environment. I take the stuffiness out of counselling and have a more causal conversational style approach to therapy which seems to benefit folks who have never been to therapy and a lot of men who may not have had a safe space to talk about what they’re experiencing. Feel free to use spicy language and show up as authentically you. The power imbalance between therapist and client can be a barrier to doing really great work and I show up as a relatable millennial (check out my instagram). For my in-person clients, always leave with something from my Therapy Treasure Chest.

Both online (secure video) sessions and in person sessions are available. Some Saturday availability and weekday evenings. We have online booking for convenience! If you can't find something in the schedule that works for you, please contact me, I have additional evening spots I can open up.

Services

Modalities: In addition to Accelerated Resolution Therapy and Pain Reprocessing Therapy, I take an integrative trauma-informed approach that incorporates elements of CBT, ACT, mindfulness, Parts/IFS, attachment, existential, narrative, emotion-focused, and motivational interviewing.

Billing: In person and online (telehealth) sessions available. Direct billing (Telus e-claims, ICBC, Medavie Blue Cross) is available and Registered Clinical Counsellors are often covered by extended benefits. Standard rate is $145/session. Sliding scale rates depend on availability.

Other info: Initial sessions are longer (and higher rate) which allows me to gather adequate background information. However, if I don't feel we've had enough time together, I offer follow-up sessions at no cost.

*Note: I'm currently unable to direct bill Canada Life.

Our office is dog friendly! Dogs and humans form an incredibly special bond. They help us feel safe and secure while offering unconditional love and comfort. If you have a well-behaved pup who helps you feel safe, ask us about bringing them with you to session.

(May be limited to specific days/times).

I can offer coaching services which slightly differs from clinical counselling. Counselling is more focused on meeting a client where they're at, whereas coaching is more directive and outcome driven.

Career: For career services, I can support you if you're considering a career change which can include reviewing resumes, exploring values and interests, improving job search and interview skills, and identifying training opportunities. The benefit of having a counselling background is that career transitions are intimidating and can be overwhelming. Together, we can address any emotional or mental health barriers that come up as needed.

Coaching: In terms of life coaching, I can offer you tools and resources that improve time management and communication skills, enhance your self-esteem and confidence, and hold you accountable in achieving your goals.

*I am able to offer Coaching Services online and if you are located outside of BC. Coaching is not typically covered under your extended benefits program, however, career counselling may be.

I get it, therapy can be a major financial investment! I offer free online consultations that can be booked through my online booking portal https://vantagepointwellness.janeapp.com

These are 15-20 minutes (sometimes longer!) where you can briefly discuss what you're looking for in a therapist and can ask questions about my services and therapeutic approaches. The hope is for you to clarify any uncertainties or doubts you have in working together and get a feel for your comfort level in moving forward with an initial session. If we don't feel like we're a good fit, I am happy to make recommendations to alternative providers who may better serve your needs. It's important to me that you work with someone you're fully comfortable with and I have a fantastic network of counsellors who have different skillsets and work with specific modalities (e.g., EMDR, etc.)

I'm certified in Pain Reprocessing Therapy (PRT) - a therapeutic modality that is highly effective for treating chronic neuroplastic pain (central sensitization syndrome, neuropathies, etc.) and other chronic conditions like chronic fatigue and post-concussion syndrome.

PRT is a modality based in neuroscience that helps retrain the brains neural pathways that trigger pain responses. Through the use of somatic tracking exercises and de-conditioning our nervous system's fear response to pain, clients learn to self-manage pain signals and discover significant reductions in functionally limiting symptoms.

Accelerated Resolution Therapy is a trauma-focused evidence-based modality that is similar to Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) therapy. It uses bilateral neural stimulation techniques to reverse trauma and assist in fully processing memories and painful past experiences. ART is a brief modality, offering significant relief in as little as five sessions (usually 1-3).

It is highly effective for: Post-traumatic stress, childhood trauma, fears and phobias (e.g., driving anxiety), performance anxiety, panic attacks, and relationship trauma.

ART works at the neural level, allowing our brains to process trauma effectively for long-term relief. Once the core themes and internalized beliefs that trigger our nervous system's trauma response are uncovered, clients tackle the problem in a series of steps where they process out negative sensations along the way. Many clients are surprised at the immediate relief they feel after just one session.
