What kind of accounting services do you provide?
We handle bookkeeping and accounting, QBO and Xero cleanup, reconciliations, corporate and personal tax, GST/HST, payroll-related accounting, management reporting and CRA review or audit work. We also take on selected non-resident and cross-border tax files.
Why is it so important for businesses to hire a great accountant?
When the accounting is current, a business owner has a better idea of what the company earned, what it owes and where problems are starting to develop. It also makes payroll, sales tax and year-end tax work much easier to manage.
What do you love most about your job?
I like solving the part that doesn't make sense. Sometimes that's an account that hasn't reconciled in months. Other times it's a tax issue the client has been trying to understand for weeks. Getting to the bottom of it and giving the client a clear next step is the part I enjoy most.
What inspired you to start your own business?
I saw a gap between doing the accounting work and actually explaining it to the client. INDep grew from the idea that clients should be able to get professional accounting and tax help without feeling lost in the process.
Why should our clients choose you?
We take the time to understand the file before deciding how to fix it. Clients also know what we're working on, what we need from them and what comes next. That matters when the accounting or tax issue is already stressful.

Yes. Most of our work is done remotely using cloud accounting software, secure document sharing, email and video calls. We work with clients across Canada and can handle many engagements without an in-person meeting.
What changes have you made to keep your customers safe from Covid-19?
Remote work became our normal service model. Clients can send documents securely, meet with us online and work with the team without travelling to an office.
Ongoing Bookkeeping and Accounting
Monthly accounting for businesses using QuickBooks Online or Xero. Work can include transaction review, bank and credit-card reconciliations, account review, GST/HST, payroll entries, missing-document follow-up and management reports. We can also take over books that need cleanup before a monthly process begins.
Corporate Tax Returns
Corporate tax preparation for Canadian owner-managed businesses. We review the year-end accounting, prepare the T2 return and flag items that may need attention before the next year, including shareholder activity, instalments or balances that do not look right.
Business and self-employed tax
Tax preparation for sole proprietors and business owners. We review business income and expenses, identify the information needed for the return and help clients deal with related GST/HST or bookkeeping issues where they come up.
CRA reviews and complicated tax matters
