CUSTOMER ADVISORY: Breach of Agreement and Withholding of Funds

This review is submitted with the intention of informing other potential customers of HIS Cleaning Services of a troubling experience regarding breach of contract, refusal to issue an appropriate refund, and disregard for their own invoicing and cancellation terms.

I am typically not inclined to leave negative reviews; however, due to the severity of this situation and the pattern of unprofessional behavior, I feel obligated to share a factual and detailed account. All communication has been documented and can be provided as supporting evidence.

Timeline and Summary of Events:

April 16, 2025: I contacted Shay of HIS Cleaning Services to schedule additional cleaning services in preparation for a household move. We mutually agreed on a flat fee of $1,000, with $500 allocated for a move-in clean and $500 for a move-out clean. A deposit of $500 (50%) was requested and paid promptly via e-transfer.

June 5, 2025: Shay unilaterally requested to move the June 6cleaning date, which was to include both the move-in clean (new home)and a regular clean at our old home. I agreed to the change but followed up on June 7 to confirm both services would still be completed. Shay then informed me only the move-in clean was scheduled, omitting the regular clean at our old residence—which was more urgent due to active showings.

June 8, 2025: We agreed to cancel the move-in clean and instead proceed with the regular clean at the old home, which was paid for separately upon completion. At this point, no refund or adjustment was issued for the cancelled move-in clean (valued at $250 minus a $50 cancellation fee, per the original invoice). I clarified in writing that the remaining deposit ($250) would be applied toward the upcoming move-out clean.

June 26, 2025: I contacted Shay to confirm the move-out clean for the following day. He responded with a last-minute email stating new "terms and conditions" that I was expected to agree to before the service could be performed. These terms had never been previously discussed or agreed upon. Due to their sudden nature and the lack of alignment with our original agreement, I declined to accept the new conditions and requested a cancellation and refund in accordance with the original invoice.

Despite the clearly documented agreement, Shay and HIS Cleaning Services have refused to issue the appropriate refund—$250 for the cancelled move-in clean and $250 for the cancelled move-out clean, minus any cancellation fee previously outlined. Instead, they have stated I am only eligible for $225 total, citing arbitrary "expenses" and non-contractual justifications.

Key Concerns:
- The company has not adhered to its own refund and cancellation policy, which was outlined in the original invoice.
- New terms were introduced unilaterally and without consent, after partial payment was already made.
- Communication from the business owner has been unprofessional, including accusatory and dismissive language (e.g., labeling me as "emotional" and "unreasonable" for requesting a refund in accordance with their own terms).
- Despite fully paying for all completed services and tipping generously, the company has taken a combative stance rather than honouring a good-faith customer agreement.

This is not a matter of financial hardship—it is a matter of principle and business ethics. I am formally requesting HIS Cleaning Services to process the appropriate refund without further delay. Should this not be resolved, I am prepared to escalate this matter to:

- My financial institution for potential chargeback or payment dispute,
- The platform used to schedule the service, - - Better Business Bureau and consumer protection agencies,
- Additional review and public reporting platforms.

Consumers should exercise caution when dealing with HIS Cleaning Services, particularly with regard to deposits and last-minute policy changes. It is imperative that service providers respect their own contractual agreements and treat clients with transparency and integrity. More...
