Great experience with the team of trainers at dogs in the park. The puppy training is very flexible with our schedules. Each member of the team takes their time to explain instructions and understand your dogs needs.

The staff does a great job at training breeds that are people pleasers. Some other breeds have a more difficult time since they’re more interested in play or other rewards than food. It is a very food based reward system that is used and can be very helpful for some breeds. In my experience, we did not have luck with Dogs in the Park and have ventured away to get one on one training that better suits our dogs needs. Also, classes are said to have a maximum of 6 dogs per class in EPE, and I’ve been to a couple of classes with 8 and 9 dogs which can be overwhelming for some puppies who love play more than anything. I wish Dogs in the Park would be more flexible in their training techniques for certain breeds but when there’s 8 dogs in a class and 1-2 instructors, it’s very difficult to get anything signed off on to “graduate” from the EPE class since they are more focused on people pleasing dogs. Prior to our puppy arriving from Saskatchewan, we attended a first session wirh John at 'Dogs In The Park". It was not just informative but captivating! Thanks to John"s wealth of knowledge, passion and patience with our numerous questions and antiquated methology,, we are now prepared to welcome our 15 week old Wire Fox Terrier and start Every Puppy's Education. Looking forward to opening our minds and developing a positive relationship with our new member of the family. Check back on our progress! More...

We have had a great experience here so far! We started in the free puppy program and very quickly saw the value in the 8-week paid program and enrolled in that. Our puppy has enjoyed it so much we're renewing our membership again. The drop-in style of classes was new to me but we found it very convenient. We could attend as frequently as we wanted to and advance as quickly as our puppy was able to. And the methods used are all about building a connection and trust with your dog. We are complimented all the time on our puppy's manners and how well he is able to cope with new environments and stimuli and we have DITP to thank for that! We highly recommend this school! More...

I can't recommend this program and the people running it enough. We are always getting compliments about how well behaved our dog is and how well he listens. One of the best aspects of dogs in the park is that they train YOU first and foremost. Understanding why you're interacting and training your dog in a certain way is just as important as the actual training of the dog. Dogs in the park is all about positive reinforcement and it really works. You can have the perfect dog, take the free puppy classes and see how. More...

In my opinion Dogs in the Park is the best dog teaching facility in the city. I first attended puppy classes run by John in 2014 with my dog Oliver before the drop in structure. Within weeks Olivers resource guarding that started due to another school's practice was gone. I continued on to levels with Oliver which taught him great skills. My father was diagnosed with cancer and I never had to worry with home health care nurses as he would go to his bed when told and wait while the nurses treated my dad even when I was not home. I often get commented on how well mannered Oliver is. I now have a 2nd dog Gus enrolled in puppy classes and can't wait to see how he progresses as he matures and heads to levels. Keep up the great work Sue,John and the rest of your amazing team. More...

We started off in their "Good Dog" program due to behavioural problems but moved on to the regular "Levels" training, and I am now apart of their internship program. Great variety of advanced classes (have taken Instant Recall, Tunnels and Jumps, Home Alone: Separation Anxiety, and Rally Obedience).I have found their relationship-building focus using clicker training and applied behaviour analysis to be fantastic, and I love the flexibility of the drop-in format. Dogs in the Park opened my eyes to a great way to train my pet without harsh punishments and yelling. Between 8 and 9 weeks of age, my puppy was already learning not to chew on things and sitting before getting attention. I know this sounds crazy but its true. He gained confidence from positive experiences with other dogs and people and as an adult, he is well balanced and a joy to bring on the hikes I lead. Though it may cost more than other puppy classes, John and his team go ABOVE and BEYOND to ensure that the puppies and their owners are comfortable and learning. I am a vet student and learnt a ton from this program! My boy learnt how to accept children, wheelchairs, play with small dogs, recall, focus and so much more. This is an amazing place to take your dog. They work with all sorts or behavior problems as well as obedience training an also offer special work shops. A year ago I had two Bernese Mountain dogs. Four days before moving to a new home in Cambridge, I had to put one of my girls down. Between loosing her best friend, moving and the stress of meeting new people every day my girl Mya's personality changed. She made me very nervous especially around people. We were referred to Dogs in the Park by our Vet. Between the Vet and Sue we did a lot of conditioning with Mya as well as trying some medications. I was really happy with Mya's progress and always looked forward to our one on one visits as well as our group classes. We even started off leash walks which I was very nervous about. Sue put me at ease and we started to join the group but that did not last too long. Unfortunately around Christmas, Mya became very lethargic and again I noticed a personality change. Sue was right on the ball with me and agreed that there was something not right. Sue spent a lot of time watching and video taping Mya and corresponding with our vet. Finally at the beginning of May Mya was diagnosed with cancer in the leg and pneumonia. Although we are not going any further in the one on one sessions or levels, Sue has allowed Mya to continue to come up to her class on Wednesday night until she is no longer able to come. Her philosophy is that we don't want to loose what we gained. I am so thankful to her since Mya loves to go to class and it is a part of making her last couple of months fun for her. The staff at Dogs in the Park are very professional and knowledgeable. I have never felt uncomfortable or threatened around any other dogs during the class as the trainers always have a handle on things. I have referred many people who are contemplating getting a new dog and in fact if I get another puppy in the near future I will be starting puppy classes immediately with them. They are awesome. Thank you Sue, John and Staff More...
