Counselling

The penny finally dropped - no more confusion - a blessing

18 September 2024

I cannot describe how satisfied I have been with Darren. Since working with Darren, I have no only uncovered and identified the habits that were keeping me back in my life but also clarity with my career.

I don’t just look at Darren as a therapist but a guide in life for when I’m stuck, I will continue to work with Darren as I attribute a lot of my success in recent months to him and his work.

I appreciate you more than you know sir!

Q&As

It is fulfilling to witness clients making new choices with new awareness, reaching for the life they want one choice at a time.

My own childhood traumas, difficult relationships and therapy journey has lead me to become a therapist. It is meaningful for me to work with you as you navigate your journey. I want others to have the support and understanding I did not have.

Humans don't live in isolation, your relationships matter. I bring compassion and caring and I believe that loving kindness is healthy behaviour for humans, we are wired for connection. I provide honest feedback for your awareness of who you are with me.

I have first-hand experiences from my life regarding ADHD, borderline, narcissism and narcissistic abuse which has given me a unique perspective.

I consider that most mental health issues are co-created relationally and it's meaningful for me to work with you and your family or chosen family no matter your situation. Your personal work is all about who you are in relation to others and reaching for the life you desire with support to let your kinder, more loving, trusting, caring parts to emerge. No one feels their kindness in the midst of being under attack, trauma can make it feel like you are. Criminals are traumatized, they have been relationally injured, usually by other humans, and act out those injuries. Emotional neglect is injurious for a child, we develop emotionally in relationship. We need to be felt with, seen and understood in our experience. Many parents do not have these relational skills, their parents may not have had them to pass on. World wars caused a generation to ignore and suppress negative emotions for survival, and they thought it was strength. This factor is one of the contributors to today’s mental health issues that are often invisible, caused by needing to be strong alone. If you’re are with a partner who doesn’t feel their emotions, they’re not going to feel with yours either, you may be emotionally alone. Our free fatherhoodprogram.ca is to start this personal journey, it’s not just for fathers.

We see the big picture of what is going on, I am trauma informed and often work with intergenerational trauma.

Whatever you grew up with is normal for you. I know this too well. We adapt to our world.

If you have a traumatized worldview, you may be unable to trust safe others fully, or see most or many people as unsafe of unfriendly when in fact most people are safe and friendly in reciprocity. I will pick-up on your worldviews and challenge where they have come from, uncovering hidden and unprocessed traumas along the way. We do this so you can have your best relationships in the present for your best life.

Yes, I have been seeing clients online since January, 2021.

The efficacy of therapy for on-line and in-person has been the same.

We will meet for video calls using the Jane client management system, or by phone call if you prefer.

Most of my work is online. I have opened my home office for clients who want to meet in-person in Cabbagetown, Toronto, while also meeting regularly on Zoom. I have an air filtration device that filters viruses but is not medical grade.

I am comfortable to disclose that I am up to date with 6 COVID vaccines, and I take the yearly flu vaccines, but I will not inquire as to your status which is your personal health information that you can disclose or not.

You are always welcome to wear your mask, and you can request that I do the same.

Therapy Services for Navigating Relationships Affected by Narcissism

Are you feeling emotionally drained in your relationship, whether as the partner of a narcissist or realizing that narcissistic traits may be affecting your own behavior? not alone. Many people experience emotional pain stemming from their relationships, often rooted in a lack of trust and intimacy. Narcissism is a highly misunderstood condition that often leads to challenges in relationships. It important to recognize that we all have narcissistic traits to varying degrees—on a spectrum.

Understanding where you fall on that spectrum can bring clarity to your experiences. When someone becomes excessively focused on their own narrative, it can create a divide—leading to me versus you mentalities that pull others into a divisive world view. This behavior often manifests as emotional control or abuse, leaving those affected feeling isolated and confused. In todays world, we see these dynamics on a larger scale, leading to societal divisions and mistrust.

The effects of narcissistic behavior can be deeply ingrained, both interpersonally and collectively, creating a fear-mongered reality filled with misinformation and distrust.

Family Therapy for Healing and Connection

If you are dealing with a narcissistic family member, family therapy can be a crucial step in repairing relationships and fostering a supportive environment. Our focus is on creating a team that actively opposes narcissistic behaviors, fostering closeness among family members.

Often, sensitive family members bear the brunt of these dynamics, showing up for therapy as a symptom rather than the cause. It’s essential to understand that without addressing and changing the family dynamics, these individuals may find themselves caught in the same dysfunctional patterns upon returning home.

Longer therapy sessions are highly recommended, particularly when addressing complex relationships. They allow adequate time for everyone to share and delve into difficult topics. It’s also beneficial to work on relational repair before tackling challenging issues that might otherwise push you apart.

In therapy, we emphasize the importance of long-term, trusting, and intimate relationships for a satisfying life. Seeking support is just as vital as reaching out for assistance with any other challenge, be it a car issue or difficulties with your eyesight. My Approach Drawing on the principles from therapists like Terry Real, Ellyn Bader, Tara Brach, and Gabor Maté, I am here to support you in navigating these complex dynamics. Together, we will explore your relationship goals and identify paths toward healing. If youre ready to take the first step toward a healthier relationship dynamic, I look forward to hearing from you for an initial consult.
