Josh is amazing, not only informative but reassuring and encouraging. We've had our pup only a few months and we were looking for some guidance on the training process as it can be daunting and confusing with all the information out there. He took his time getting to know us as owners and hearing about our puppy and all his quirks, he reassured us where he could and adjusted where it was necessary. My wife and I would probably not have been able to keep our difficult, independent, manic husky without the help of Josh Taylor at Canine Education. Now we have a much calmer, connected, and more often obedient dog who accepts us wholly as his loving pack and leaders. I knew Josh was what we needed from his first visit. Pico was a rescue dog of five months who arrived with intense anxiety that masqueraded as mania, disobedience, and destructiveness to a level I’d never encountered before. Josh arrived for his first assessment and we took him out into the garden. Pico started tearing around, jumping up, chewing shrubs. And Josh simply looked down at him, said “Calm down,” and Pico sat, looking up at him, waiting for his next instruction. Amazing! Since then, over the course of perhaps a dozen visits to our home, Josh has trained us to train Pico, which is even more important than training Pico. He’s been a calming interlocutor whenever we despaired or talked about abandoning our dog (we could never imagine it, but we had to face the possibility as our home life deteriorated in those first months). Josh’s calm is amazing: when Pico would jump up at us or chew our hands or counter-surf, we could never stay as calm as necessary, but Josh would simply sit on the floor and hold Pico firm by the collar until he’d exhausted himself and was ready for training. He taught us the right timing for crating the dog in relation to bad behaviour, and when and how to release him. He was firm with the dog, and strong enough to handle him at his worst. But perhaps the most important thing to come out of all this hard work was that Pico absolutely adores Josh. His training didn’t create the least fear in the dog. When Josh takes Pico off for a few days of boarding he can’t jump into Josh’s car fast enough. He’s thrilled to have more time with his best friend! One thing I really appreciated when we began to work with Josh is that there is very little treat training going on. So many online trainers have you shovelling treats into your dog’s mouth faster than he can chew them; this just made Pico into a manic treat junkie. Josh’s rewards for good behaviour are 90% verbal and physical praise, with treats a very rarely needed lure or a reward for especially good behaviour. Two final observations: don’t expect Josh (or any trainer) to train your dog for you. He teaches you to teach the dog, and only trains Pico himself so as to show you a technique. The training is up to you to follow through on. If you can’t find the time, you won’t have our excellent results. And second, Josh offers a small in-family boarding service for some dogs, and that time in Josh’s home when we were on vacation and couldn’t take him with us was a crucial part of Pico’s progress. Imagine having your dog living for a few days with his trainer! We feel very lucky that our veterinarian recommended we contact Josh and Canine Education. The other day a passer-by on Pico’s walk stopped to admire his looks and told me how lucky we were to have him. And for the first time after a long time, I thought, “yes, we really, really are.” And Josh helped to get us there. Thank you, Josh! More...

Josh is wonderful with the puppy, but even better with helping the family invite, train and help the dog adapt to the family. Josh is such an amazing dog trainer. In only 5 sessions, he helped us significantly improve our dog’s reactivity through the group LRC program. The technique that Josh taught us helped us gain more confidence with our pup and helped our pup learn how to behave while on a leash. He is patient, extremely knowledgeable, and super kind. I'm not sure I can say enough good things about how Josh helped us with our reactive dog. We were ready to give up and accept that Quinn was always going to be reactive to other dogs but Josh showed us how positive reinforcement, consistency and patience can really work to bring about change. I can't say enough good things about Josh! He worked with me several years ago to train my now 6 year old dog, and the results were amazing. My dog Rocky and I recently completed five training sessions with Josh and it was AWESOME! Rocky is a one-year-old husky mix from a northern community, and he had a LOT of trauma when I adopted him that causes him to be very reactive on leash, especially towards other dogs. Through the one-on-one sessions, Josh was able to pay special attention to Rocky, diagnose his particular issues, and give us advice that was specifically tailored to our context. In just those five sessions, Rocky was noticeably calmer and more attentive. Although we still have a lot more training to do, especially now that we’re back in our community, I feel much more confident with the training tools and games that Josh gave us. Thanks Josh! We can't say enough great things about Josh and his methods!! My partner and I completed the leash reactivity class with our pup via zoom, and Josh found a way to make it engaging, fun, and so SO helpful! We learned so much and we've seen amazing progress in our pup. The techniques we learned helped our Finn to not only have better leash manners, but become a more confident and well-behaved fur baby all around! We learned a lot about how to get our dog to do what we want her too, even in quarantine, Josh was super helpful and was always ready to answer questions or any concerns we might have. Sasha our German Shepherd pup was more then happy to comply with the training. she is now getting a little more verbal outside because she wants to play and interact with people on her walks or just been in the back yard with us. I can't wait for the next class to start. It will be good for Sasha to learn new things, as she is getting bored of the things we do with her lol. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!! Josh has been such an amazing source of information. My boyfriend and I are first time dog owners and taking these classes with Josh has given us the confidence to help our pup get started on the right paw. and he ensures that as our puppy's hoomans, we show affection at the right time and what is the right way to correct undesirable behaviour. Our classes continued online via Zoom, and it was sooooo appreciated because we were starting to feel so lost without Josh during this strange Covid times... Before going into super dogs training our miniature Australian shepherd Luna had many problems we needed to work on with her. We just completed our series of private classes with Our girl Friday, who was a terrible puller and very badly socialized. Josh has been excellent with my dog who was having some aggression issues at the door, leash pulling and distractions outside, and most importantly separation anxiety (a very difficult issue to tackle). His knowledge and patience has proven invaluable in my life, my relationship with my dog chorizo is so much better, and the improvements with Chorizo's separation anxiety have given me my life back! Keep in mind, like anything in life this is not a miracle cure for dogs, you must work WITH Josh and implement the tools he gives you diligently and consistently. With effort and persistence everything josh has told me to do with chorizo has translated into incredible results.
