About 10 yrs ago a $27 000 deck with composite flooring was put into my yard that was nailed down by this company. Now it's a complete mess . ...stand by your work ....this company is soo disappointing will go to social media to show everyone how terrible you guys are. They came back last week and agreed it was crap but said it was just bad luck. My son went to the hospital after a nail went in his foot. You say a deck with this material would last 20 plus yrs but you built it with nails knowing they would pop out in 10 yrs. The entire structure is falling apart and you say it's just bad luck....Horrible!! Your company should be ashamed to produce this work. I had 5 companies come in to re quote on a fix for this and they all had a good laugh at this before telling me to go back to the original builders to fix this mess. Actually they said it not only cannot be fixed and needs to be re built but also that the materials were no good too because it was all nailed in so its a waste. When I asked Hickory they said the best they could do is quote me on a new build. Crooks!! JUST FOUND OUT THAT THE PERMIT WAS CANCELLED AND THIS WAS BUILT WITH NO INSPECTION although they said they did!! More...

We hired Steve and his crew to replace our aging deck last fall, and it was the best choice we could have made for our project. Steve was on time for our first meeting, ready to listen to what we wanted and to make helpful suggestions, and when he returned a week or two later with a proposal, it was incredibly detailed and he brought samples as well for us to choose from. Even though our deck was a small project compared to many, Steve treated us as valued customers, and he was willing to replace our aging fence as well, which we really appreciated. He provided us with a friendly, skilled and hard-working crew to do the job, and dropped in frequently during the process to make sure that everything was going well. He was always quick to respond to any questions we had, as was his crew. In the end, we wound up with a beautiful composite deck and cedar fence that we still admire daily. My wife and I are very happy with the new composite deck Will & B.J. put in this summer for us, replacing our old, outdated, falling apart, 15 year old composite deck. My deck had been demolished and the posting completed, however, the person responsible did not do the work up to building code standard.

I spoke with a number of companies to start from scratch and redo, to code, the work that was done on the deck foundation and to complete the composite/aluminum railing deck.

I selected Hickory Dickory Decks particularly for the professional presentation and education received from Steve. He wanted to produce what I had in mind and performed a detailed assessment to ensure we all were on the same page. This was much appreciate.

We had our deck done in composite about 8 years ago by this company. Within 3 years we started having problems with moisture and composite splitting where they had screwed it in. The composite we used was end of stock so we did get a discount however we had no idea the product was bad. We asked them to assess it last year which took weeks to even get a response. When it was assessed we were told it could cost $14 000 to replace the composite!!! More...

Steve H. and his crew did a wonderful job of designing and installing our new deck. The entire team, from the deck designer to the installation crew, took pride in their work as every step was completed with an attention to detail. When issues arose we were consulted and the challenge was discussed until a satisfactory resolution was agreed upon. They were also very considerate of our existing gardens. The work site was always cleaned up at the end of the day and a through cleanup was done at the completion of the job. I would highly recommend Steve and his friendly crew of professionals. We needed a new deck and stairs leading to our backyard which is situated in a ravine so we decided on Hickory Dickory Decks based on their many favourable reviews, photos of their work and years in the business. We feel we made the right choice after we sat down with Tom and his plan designer Charleigh Roberts. We decided on the material we wanted ( a mid level composite as we did not want to do maintenance to keep up the look of the project) and Charleigh came over to our house to take pictures and scope out the project for final design and estimate.
While she presented many cost options to us (as this project was not cheap by any means) we went with the mid level composite and are very happy we did. Contractors Jeremy Nie and Chris did a fantastic job of putting Charleigh's design into reality and suggestions from both really made the project stand out.
We are so happy and satisfied with the work done and have received so many compliments on our new deck, stairs and gazebo. We would not hesitate to recommend this business for your deck project. We appreciated the cost options as we were not "oversold" and the explanations provided to the plus and minus of each material considered.
We feel Jeremy and Chris went that extra mile to make sure we were completely satisfied with their work and that was also greatly appreciated. Thanks again for your professionalism and hard work. The demolishing crew was also excellent and should receive mention for removing the existing stairs and deck and leaving the place completely clean all in under one day! Just wanted you to know we absolutely love our new backyard! What a transformation. We are so glad we chose Hickory Dickory Decks. Jeremy and Chris were amazing! They are both very professional, dedicated and hard working. There were a couple of days I was actually surprised they were here due to the weather. Jeremy made sure we touched base with each other every day to ensure we were happy with the progress. At the end of every day he always asked if I had any questions. Before leaving for the day they made sure everything was cleaned up and never left a mess (I have heard that some contractors don't clean up after themselves). I really appreciated Jeremy's input throughout the project. He brought up ideas and suggestions we would never have thought of that improved on what we had originally designed - the step leading onto the patio running the length of the deck makes it so much easier for people transitioning from the dining area to the stone patio, the eavestrough on the pavilion. If we weren't sure what decision to make, Jeremy was great; giving us the pros and cons and walking us through to make sure we made the decision that was best for us. Chris was here early every single morning and sometimes didn't leave until it started getting dark. The quality, timing and workmanship throughout the complete project was very impressive. From our first visit with you to go over planning and design to the finished project, everything happened on schedule and as planned. You and your team walked us through and held our hand from start to finish. Our deck is now the best place to be. Going composite was a wise decision as it is cleaner, less maintenance and it feels like an extension of our house. Our house was built in 2002. We had a first generation composite deck over a cedar deck which was no longer usable. We hired Hickory Dickory Decks (HDD) to remedy the situation.
Peter, Trish and their team were awesome and very patient despite a busy summer season. They worked with us to generate several options for a new deck design, explained the various types of material options and provided colour renderings so we could better envision what it would look like. They then went to town removing 3200 pounds of old deck/hot tub material. Our new deck is gorgeous and was completed on time and within budget.
We also wanted some minor outdoor jobs done in conjunction with the deck reno (new lights, new speakers, door painting, a few new plants, retaining wall repair etc). HDD was willing to take on these extra jobs and didn’t’ stop until every one of them was complete. This is a testament to the willingness of this company to go over and above.
We would highly recommend HDD and Peter and Trish were fabulous to work with.

After receiving a number of quotes from a number of decking companies, we hired Thyan and his team from Hickory Dickory Decks to replace our backyard, poolside deck. Thyan helped us to design the deck and pergola, going through a few different iterations until we found the design and price that we were happy with. We chose a deck built of composite materials with a cedar pergola built over the top, along with a privacy fence. Thyan and his team were always professional and the deck was finished earlier than anticipated. The construction is first-rate. The construction is SOLID. We are in our 2nd year of enjoying our Hickory Dickory Decks deck. It has become our 6 month of the year main living space in our city home. It our little bit of paradise to come to and relax. It was perfectly designed by HDD with our every day use and regular entertaining in mind adding the granite bar and lots of room on the top deck. At Hickory Dickory Deck, decks are built and/or repaired with H.E.A.R.T. – Honesty, Evidence, Accountability, Respect and Trust.

After having this company build my beautiful deck over a decade ago, I instantly returned to them over ten years later when I saw that some wooden boards were starting to age badly. They did a magnificent job then, and I had full faith they would be the company I would want to work with again. They continued to be stellar.

Honesty: From the beginning I shared my wishes about what I would like to see in the repaired final product. Tom was forthcoming in sharing his knowledge and expertise to ensure I ended up with what I was seeking. He took the time to tell me about the products available, and my options, as he learned more about my wishes. This allowed me to make an informed decision. He was honest in what the results would be to each of the possible scenarios. I appreciated knowing this so I could be assured that what I wanted would be what was provided. We were on the same page, and this made me happy.

Evidence: Jeremy and Chris were diligent in following the plan that was set out and they went above and beyond to also correct things I had not noticed. There was clear evidence that when all was said and done, that as I walk around my refurbished deck, nothing would jump out nor be missed because I had overlooked something. I was SO appreciative that both Jeremy and Chris took great care and had an amazing skill sets to produce a quality result. As the process evolved, I had called back to Tom with questions and he too was available and supportive in making sure I felt assured that the right decisions were being made, regarding sealing vs. staining etc. This reassurance made the process much less stressful for me, especially knowing that I am a person with extremely high expectations. When Mason and Pierce came to clean the deck, they were also diligent in the care and thoroughness they demonstrated, and the cleaning was superb. No places were missed and all was well above my expectations. What an amazing difference! Pierce and Mason were also personable, hard-working, and held the same high expectations I have. It was evident that this company hires professionals that care about and work hard to ensure customer satisfaction.

Accountability: All promised timelines were met. There is nothing better than knowing you are working with accountable people. Jeremy and Chris were always on time (if not early) and they certainly put in full days of work. They problem-solved as issues arose and always checked in with me to ensure I was pleased with their ideas. Their ideas were stellar, and I appreciated them honouring my wishes to be informed. I loved the ideas they shared, and they certainly contributed to the results being better than even I expected. For the cleaning part, Mason and Pierce called to let me know they were on their way, and they too were early to arrive at our home. They certainly put in a full day of work, even with the changing weather throughout the day. It was certainly time well spent and they were consistently on task.

Respect: Looking back I could have just told Hickory Dickory Deck to go ahead and fix what needed to be fixed, and all would have been great. But everyone involved was very respectful and they honoured my personality and accommodated this by keeping me in the loop to ensure my satisfaction in the end. All interactions were respectful, professional but also human, as their sense of humour was also welcomed and kept me worry-free. Nice guys. Talented and skillful guys. Respectful guys. This made the process stress-free for me.

Trust: The price was quoted, agreed to and the contract was drawn up. As I spent more time looking more deeply at my deck as their work progressed, new possibilities popped into my mind. While Jeremy was always honest with what could be done, I could also trust him to let me know what extra costs would be incurred if my revised plans were implemented. There were no surprises! I could trust his transparency and word. It was all absolutely reasonable and I appreciated the flexibility in making the additions to our original plans. The same can be said for Mason and Pierce. As the cleaning uncovered what shape some boards really were in, they were helpful in ensuring that I was aware, and willingly took pictures so that my message could be shared back with Tom, with my requests for a few more changes. This made communication clear and precise so all were on the same page, to guide any further minor revisions. I could trust that when this was finished, I would be more than satisfied. We were all on the same team with the same goal.

H.E.A.R.T.: Because I am recently retired, I will be spending many, many hours now entertaining and enjoying my refurbished deck. I didn’t want a new deck with the new composite materials. I have loved and will be able to continue to love my wooden deck, thanks to this accommodating, stellar company and their amazing employees (Tom, Jeremy, Chris, Mason and Pierce). I had set out to be able to go out back, and enjoy the feeling that all is looking great again, the way I like it to be, and wood gives me that feeling. I am also grateful that my wishes were supported and that I wasn’t pressured into tearing down a fading deck to create a brand new more expensive one, made from the composite materials that I personally didn’t want. They delivered on what I wanted, and enhanced the final product to ensure my complete satisfaction. Tom had written on our contract that the final payment would be when there was customer satisfaction. I remember thinking that some people are never satisfied so how could a company honour this? Wouldn’t that be a risky thing to promise? For Hickory Dickory Deck, it wasn’t risky at all! Even I, the super picky one, was more than satisfied! It was well worth the money I spent. The end product was exactly what I was told it could be. My deck was refurbished with H.E.A.R.T…and care for the customer’s happiness. They can be assured that in another decade or so, if anything further is ever needed, I will certainly be returning a third time to this stellar company.

I've known Tom since 2002. I first met him when he provided some ideas for our house deck. I think I was his first IPE deck customer. After his crew finished our deck, we continued to chat often, played golf together and even played pickup hockey together. Back in 2014, I submitted a video into the Hickory Dickory Decks Dream Deck contest. My family and I made a video showcasing the terrible condition of the deck we had, which was literally falling apart. Luckily, we rallied enough votes from family, friends and the public to end in first place. I can't even describe my excitement when I was dubbed the official winner. All I can say is, I was over the moon. Unfortunately, there were some hiccups between the city and the company. Every time they tried to begin building, someone would shut them down. Any other company would have given up on me, but Hickory Dickory Decks didn't. For 2 years, they fought to fulfill my dream and finally got the approval. They went above and beyond with kindness. The fun part is definitely showing off the beauty of my much bigger deck. I never actually realized how small the old deck was until I got to drive around this beauty. I can turn the corner of the ramp without getting caught, the gate ensures no more nightmares of driving down the stairs and way more room for next years BBQ! I can't wait to decorate next spring. I hope Hickory Dickory Decks knows how much my family and I really appreciate everything they've done for us. The owners and builders were all super kind and caring.
