What do you love most about your job?
What I love most about my job as a forensic engineer is the unique combination of detective work and technical expertise it requires. Each project feels like solving a complex puzzle with real-world consequences—whether I'm investigating a structural failure, analysing material behaviour, or pinpointing environmental factors that led to damage. The diversity in cases keeps my work challenging and engaging, and knowing that my findings can contribute to safety improvements and better engineering practices is incredibly rewarding. The purpose behind the work, from resolving legal disputes to preventing future issues, adds a meaningful dimension to what I do.
What inspired you to start your own business?
find that most people, including myself, are inspired to start their own business by a mix of independence, passion, and the pursuit of financial opportunity. The idea of bringing a unique vision to life or solving a market problem is a powerful motivator, especially if there's a strong interest in a particular field. Entrepreneurship provides a level of control and flexibility that’s rarely found in traditional jobs, allowing us to build a work environment aligned with our values and goals.
There's also often a desire to make a real impact, whether through innovation, job creation, or contributing to social change. For some, it’s a sense of dissatisfaction with corporate limitations that fuels the drive to shape their own path, seeking a more fulfilling and dynamic career by building something personally meaningful.

Structural engineering forensic investigations involve the investigation of structural failures to determine the cause of the failure, while considering factors such as design, construction, maintenance, and operation. Industrial Building Structural Safety & Repair
In terms of South African OHS Act, the owners of industrial buildings are obliged to have the building inspected by a suitable qualified professional engineer once a year.
The process of assessing and maintaining the structural integrity of an industrial building by identifying potential weaknesses, addressing damage, and implementing necessary repairs will ensure that the building can safely withstand intended loads and operations. In the visual assessment process we include elements like columns, beams, foundations, and roof structures, where it can be reasonably inspected.
Visual Structural assessments comprise of the following typical steps:
- Visual inspections to identify cracks, corrosion, deflection, or other signs of damage.
- Load calculations to determine if the building can handle current and future operational stresses.
- Non-destructive testing (NDT) techniques like ultrasonic pulse velocity testing to assess concrete integrity.
