Derek and his team were hired to update an apartment, work included removal of current furniture, flooring, repainting, plastering, change of radiators, update of sockets and lights.
From the first second Derek’s friendly communication manner makes you feel confident in his work.
However, the another side starts to show up couple of days after.
Derek demands (not asks but demands) the majority of payment to be done upfront, while still leaving the majority of work left to be done as he “will come back”.
On the day when work was agreed to end, and after leaving, stating to “be back” and taking the full payment, Derek left socket totally open, with naked wires, leaving kitchen fitter to work around them. So, urgent visit of electrician was arranged. When electrician observed the area, he identified that double sockets which were added by Derek were connected with weak wire, not capable of maintaining the current for heating appliances (kettle, toaster), otherwise they will melt. These sockets were exactly planned to be used for this purpose. So, as reported by qualified electrician, it would have been a direct fire hazard.
Derek, I am not focusing here on work which you were supposed to finish but didn’t (drain replacement, entrance area painting, lights change etc.), but creating live hazard with your electricity work is just out of my mind and should be reported, to safe future potential customers from what they are getting into.
Painting and plastering required a lot of rework and updates. I left 50 stickers in one bedroom apartment for the painting job issues. And this all was when 80% of payment for whole job was already demanded and taken by Derek.
Constant remainders of left work were required, as he does not keep proper tracking of tasks left to be done.
I would suggest to hire Derek for simple jobs which do not require any attention to detail and which can be done quickly. Otherwise, be ready to monitor every step he takes. Around 30% of sockets updated by Derek and his team are misaligned and not levelled. Small towel hanger was not levelled. To be fair, other 2 shelves which he hanged were levelled, well done on this.
I am curious to see how Derek will claim that it’s a lie, as he did to other negative comments. Shame that bark does not allow to add photos to the comments. He might claim that there was extra work assigned from me. Which is true. It’s also true that he was paid for this, as he requested.

He was to install the lights but instead damaged the walls and then later promised me to come back to do the touch up and finish the pending work but he dint turned up even after several follow ups... Total misrepresentation if what actually happened. You tried to add on EXTRA jobs to the initial agreed price. Unfortunately I am not a charity, I have to charge for my services. All of my other reviews cant be wrong…very bad form from you.
