The Curated Experience

We recently hosted a tea party for 45 guests and had the pleasure of working with The Experience Fine Dining for our catering. Their service was seamless, and the food truly elevated the event.

They provided five beautifully presented appetizers, each one fresh, flavorful, and generously portioned:

- Individual cups of pasta salad – light and refreshing, perfect for a tea party setting.
- Beef kofta balls with tzatziki sauce – tender and well-seasoned, paired with a cool, creamy dip.
- Spring rolls with sweet and sour sauce – crispy and vibrant, with just the right balance of crunch and tang.
- Buffalo chicken sliders – bold, juicy, and a definite crowd favorite.
- Spanakopita – flaky, savory, and packed with delicious spinach and feta filling.

We obtained the catering service from “The Experience” aka “Plated by Amina” in early September. We were seeking a catering company to provide lunch and dinner, Monday to Friday, for 10+ people. We were contacted by Amina, aka “The Experience” and after discussing our needs and budget, she confidently said this is something she and her company can handle.

There were a few issues early on, with the meals we received the first week being hit or miss. We discussed our concerns with her and she explained she will use another chef to cook the meals instead.

Some of the issues included: finding a long hair in the food, the meals delivered not matching the menu agreed upon, the portions being really small, and some meals having a strange taste (for example the macaroni and cheese meal having a very strong sour vinegar odour and taste and was inedible). Despite the meal quality being unpredictable, we decided to give her a chance because she promised improvements and contracted another chef on her “team” to cook.

After 3 weeks of trial and error, it was clear that the meal quality was not going to improve with any sort of reliability.

Amina was requiring payment, in advance, in full, on Tuesday for the following week. On Tuesday morning, we politely let her know a week in advance that we would not be continuing with her services for the following week. We had already paid in full up until and including that upcoming Friday. This upset her very much, and her commments grew more and more unprofessional, I asked for a refund for the remaining 3 days as I was becoming concerned with the whole interaction.

Initially she stated she couldn’t provide a refund, we replied that would be fine, and that we would be looking forward to continuing the service for the remaining 3 days, which again, were already paid for in full.

Unfortunately, hours after agreeing, she abruptly decided that she would in fact NOT be providing meals as ordered. She changed her mind and stated she would provide a refund. We wanted to end this as amicably as possible so we agreed, despite this leaving us in a bind for finding an alternate solution for the next 3 days.

Unfortunately, we have yet to receive our refund as promised. We have remained as patient as possible however today will mark the 22nd day since she said she would provide that refund. We paid in advance for those 3 days worth of meals and she cancelled without delivering the meals nor a refund.

For context, we are providing meals for students in our program. We expect to be provided a service that we paid for IN FULL a week in advance. Her last minute decision to cancel greatly affected us, and we hadn’t done anything wrong whatsoever. There was no contract, no agreement, no arrangement that we breached. She broke the agreement by refusing us the meals that were paid for and now withholding funds that are rightfully ours.

We would strongly caution against anyone using “The Experience” aka “Plated By Amina” for any of your catering needs. They operate under shady business practices and they employ questionable “chefs”. They cannot handle cooking batch meals despite Amina assuring us they could. The quality of the meals was unpredictable. This was a terrible experience and we regret using this company.
