Where do we even begin to express our deepest appreciation for Mathieu? We had been pleading with CRA to reassess my wife's 2022 tax return. It was an exhausting back-and-forth of submitting documents and requirements just to prove that a student grant she received was not taxable—yet CRA had included it in their assessment, resulting in a significant amount owing. On top of that, the late fees, omission fees, and other penalties kept piling up. For almost two years, we went through this ordeal with our previous accountant, who eventually gave up on the case. That’s when I found Mathieu online, hoping to get a second opinion and some real guidance. Mathieu took the time to thoroughly review our file and quickly identified the issue as an oversight on CRA’s part. He confirmed that we were right to question the assessment and immediately submitted a refile and appeal on our behalf. In less than two months, CRA responded—completely removing the balance owing and reducing it to $0, while also returning most of the amount that had previously been demanded. What I love most about my job is the opportunity to work with numbers and help people. I’ve always had a passion for numbers, and there's something incredibly satisfying about making sense of complex financial situations.
